It was with great difficulty that Gil managed to crack open his heavy eyelids, only to snap them shut again with a painfilled groan. Even in this dark, dreary world it was still too bright for him to open his eyes. Covering his eyes with his hand, but leaving cracks, he repeatedly opened and closed his eyes until he got used to the intensity of simple light.
"Grolo," he heard a growl by his side before a wet nose nudged against his arm. Pulling away with another groan, Gil sat up with a sigh. He blinked blearily as he gazed at Growlithe, mind jumbled as he tried to figure out what had happened. "Gor," Growlithe whined, nudging Gil again. With a weary smile, Gil indulged the fire pup with a few grateful pups. His loyal pokemon deserved some love, especially with the way he had protected him so fiercely.
"Muurr," a voice crooned, and Gil turned to stare at Murkrow hopping toward him. The poor bird was rather ragid looking. A few feathers seemed to be missing and one even fluttered out just now. These pokemon had gone through their hardest battle.
"Let's go," Gil murmered, standing up with a heave. He faltered for a moment, his two pokemon tensing as he nearly fell, prepared to help him in any way.
The three of them headed off, stomach's beginning to growl and minds nearly shutting down. Gil held his stomach as if sick, but it wasn't his body that was ill, it was his mind. The battle, Shaun and Sableye flowed through his mind in flashes. It was all just so messed up. Everything had happened so quickly and all in that one moment. His father's murderer, his once lost brother, and then the merging with a pokemon; it all summed uo to one word: F*ck.
He could even almost hear Sableye's voice, thinking about how those crystal eyes had stared into his own each time he had helped him in someway. Had Sableye always been his protector? Had that trainer he had met simply been a hallucination when he had battled the Sableye? It seems so.
"Grolw!" Growlithe cried out, suddenly pointing forward with a paw. Curious, Gil craned his neck to see what it was that got his pokemon riled up before his eyes widened.
It was a large pool of water, only it seemed to be upside down and was flowing towards the ground in a slow motion. It was completely eerie, but Gil didn't give a ****. He lunged, fingers scooping up as much water as he could, his pokemon following his example as they drank greedily. He vaguely heard, however, as his vision began to grow dark once more, "Gil, one thing whatever you do don't eat or drink anything inside of the reverse world!" and he knew it was Tai's stupid voice. Thanks, Tai, for that too-late warning.
Bastard.

"Hey, wake up. Come now, you've been asleep for far too long." With an annoyed sigh, Gil forced his eyes open for the second time that day (night?). As his vision cleared, he blinked at a pink haired woman in shock. His memory supplied him with the name of Loreli. She had once been a part of the Elite Four, but that had been before the war.
Gil shifted around and took notice that he was in a bed with Growlithe and Murkrow by his side. They wriggled about too as they got used to their surroundings before turning their paranoid attention on the new comer. There was a strange spark in their eyes that did not look completely sane, and Gil wondered if he too had that same spark. Ha! Him wondering if had any sort of craziness left in him.
He was nothing if not messed up, so had he been slightly sane for a while before turning back down that path? What was his path now? That murderous ghost was now dead, what was left for him.
"Kid... Kid, Gil! Calm down... Shh, easy now..."
Gil was hardly aware that he was hyperventilating or that Loreli was trying to soothe him by whispering to him worriedly and rubbing his chest. It wasn't working, and Gil was staring wide eyed at the ceiling, mouth a jar as breathless giggles of frustration escaped him.
"W...hy?" he croaked. "Wh...y am ...I here?" He took more deep breathes, trying to get a hold of himself.
Loreli pursed her lips, eyes lowered as if in shame. "I was charged with being your watcher," she told him. "Each trainer selected by the late Professor Oak is given a watcher."
Gil broke into a laugh as he rose to a shaky sitting position. "Then where have you been?" he asked shakily. "Why haven't you protected me?" Why was it always that Sableye?
Loreli truly looked sorry. "I was confronted by Beo," she told him quietly, "and sent here shortly after." She took a deep breath. "I've been here for five years." Before Gil could say anything, the ice master interrupted him with, "Time passes differently here."
Gil felt himself giving a sardonic smile. "And where does that leave us now?"
Loreli gave him a somewhat icy look for his tone. "With you here, we now have a way out." She offered him a tired smile. "I can take you back to the rebels."
Gil faltered, staring at her with wide eyes. Was... was she offering him a second chance? Was she trying to take him back to what he had signed up for? The thought was almost enough to send him into a pitch of insane giggles. Send him back? Send him back to what! He had nothing! He had nothing on either side!
With that thought, Gil swallowed heavily and turned his head away and ignored the woman as she asked what was wrong. His dark eyes glared into his pokemon's worried one's as they gazed at him. They knew what was on his mind. They had been with him through it all, so that's why, with a single blink, they knew his silent order.
The silent home was now filled with female screams as Growlithe burned the woman to death, completely unable to move as Murkrow froze her feet.
And it was over, along with Gil's reason...
