"The Path to the Pokémon League" Episode Discussion

I hated AJ from this episode. How could someone treat their pokemon like slaves? The storyline was really dull, but we finally see Fissure in action. The Paint edits were soooo obvious in this episode especially the scoreboard. All in all I think this was out of place for pokemon. It would have been good for the Pokemon Special Manga, but it is not appropriate for the anime's themes. Overall, a 4/10
 
What a horrible, boring, close-your-ear and shut-your-eyes episode. Horrible, pointless paint editing by 4Kids, like only 2 short battles, and AJ's voice *cries*. I pray for the people who had to watch people this episode.

But what got me really mad was Butterfree vs. Sandshrew. Can't wait for Giselle's episode and Surge's.
 
How, oh, how can Brock jusitify the way AJ treats his Pokemon!? Seriously, if someone did that now Ash an co would go mad! I hate him! I mean, seriously, 4Kids even added in a whip o.O

Wow, some 10 year old boy can afford a digital sign above their own gym. You can tell those weren't credit crunch times...XD
I can't really remember anything else.

Well, the Pokeball whip was a cool edit, I thought. Heh.

Hey, they got yen, whatever the currency is (they still haven't addressed that, have they?). So, the late 90's were good times! Whoo! Anyway, good point on the fancy scoreboard.

This episode was interesting in that this is the first time we see Ash actually clash with someone over Trainer techniques. Granted, Samurai mocked Ash for his 'novice' approach, it didn't come to blows like here. So, this would be the start of many similar themed episodes where "you're not training right, you moron."

Also, I think this also established Ash's overconfidence, and how he must be knocked down a peg. I'm debating if he deserves it here, though, he was getting a little out of control in this episode. Hmm. I'll let you all figure out that one.
 
He deserved to go down a peg, he thought he was undefeatable because he got a badge for knowing how to work water sprinklers.

Touche. And Team Rocket technically gave him his second one, since they interrupted him and he was losing. Hmm....
 
Oh, I completly forgot he got his second badge already XD It's crazy how fast he got his first 5 badges, then had a load of fillers in the middle.

Indeed. The pacing gets incredibly funky, especially later. I didn't mention this in the previous episode, but it feels like we're missing something. We do Mt. Moon and -- bam -- Cascade Badge time. Feels like there should be one more episode in between, yet, in the games, you go straight from Mt. Moon to Cerulean. It's odd.

Compared to this episode, I've no problem with, as we needed the breather from the game canon and the Badges, at least for a moment.
