Another idea exploring Ash and the gang as puppeteers....
"The Puppeteer's Playdate"
A pink humanoid creature leads several other creatures into the living room, where it spots a familiar Meowth doll sitting on a puppet stage.
"Rio?" a tiny wolf creature asks. It tiptoes up to the stage to get a closer look at the doll, but gasps as it speaks to her! "Why is a teacher reminded of an' empty classroom when she closes her eyes?" it asks, its nasaly voice being a perfect imitation of a certain Meowth.
"Pini?" the pink humanoid asks--she knows who is actually performing the Meowth.
"Because dere are no pupils ta see!" the Meowth replies. All the creatures howl with laughter at the corny joke.
Back behind the stage, a black haired boy giggles as the Meowth's puppeteer, a brown haired boy with tan skin, makes the Meowth doll "pace" the stage, as if thinking of another joke. "Good one, Brock! Now that you've got Happini and her friends interested, mind if we have Juno and Lani join in?"
"Sure, Ash--that'll give Midori and the others time to finish looking over your script." Brock replies before getting back into character and performing the Meowth some more. "What's black an' white and difficult?".
"Azu?" a blue mouse creature asks the Meowth puppet.
"A test paper!" Brock replies with the punch line, making Happini, the Riolu, the Azurill, a Pichu, and a Torchic giggle.
"You needed me?" a black haired girl smiles as she joins Ash and Brock behind the stage and retrieves a Taillow puppet doll from the pile of puppets.
"Yeah, Dawn--mind playing Lani until the rest of the cast gets here?" Ash asks as he retrieves a Pichu puppet doll and sticks his hand inside it.
"We've got a story ta tell ya in a minute, but while we get it ready, get a load of dis number." Brock announces in character before the lights on the puppet stage go down as soon as the stage is empty.
Dawn takes that opportunity to make her Taillow puppet "limp" onstage. "Ow-ow-ow..." she groans in a breathy female voice.
"What's da matter, Lani?" Brock asks in character as he makes Leon "walk" in the scene.
"A Beedrill stung me..." Dawn groans in character, making the Taillow puppet rub a wing in pain.
Just then, Ash makes his Pichu puppet "run" onstage with a prop medicine tube. "I know! Put some medicine on it!" he suggests in a high pitched female voice.
"But the Beedrill will be miles away by now!" Dawn protests as Lani, to the giggles of the small audience.
"We're ready to perform." a girl with long brown hair reports as she leads a brown haired boy, a blue haired girl, and an orange haired girl back behind the stage.
"Midori, please give everyone their scripts." Brock whispers as the lights go down. Lucas grabs a Chikorita puppet, Dawn finds a Shaymin puppet in the clutter, and Brock reaches for a Raikou puppet lying close by as he sets the Meowth puppet back in the box of puppets.
"Oh, I know what story you're doing!" the orange haired girl smiles as she finds an Azumarill puppet in the box of puppets and dresses it in a tunic and a hat. "We're doing 'The Raikou, the Merchant, and the Ninetales', aren't we?"
"Yeah, Misty--Ash wrote this adaptation himself." Brock smiles as he slips a sock into the Raikou puppet.
"Dibs on the Ninetales!" the blue haired girl announces, triumphantly holding a Ninetales puppet over her head.
Brock laughs a little. "Okay, Crystal, you can play the Ninetales..." he smiles before addressing Ash and Lucas again. "Would you mind starting the story while the girls and I are finishing up with the set?"
"Sure!" With that, Ash slips his hand back into the Pichu puppet and makes it "walk" on the stage before the closed curtain. "Hi again!" he calls in his Juno voice. Happini and the others cheer as he makes the Pichu puppet "look" at Midori reading the script, which is made up to look like a book. "You know, if I could find my friend Sage, maybe we could ask Midori to tell us a story!"
He is about to make Juno "walk" offstage when Lucas' Chikorita enters. "Hey, Juno--see that book Midori's reading?" he whispers in a breathy high piched male voice.
"I know that book, Sage! It's her book of stories!" Ash cries in character. "Anything she reads out of it comes alive when we use our imaginations!"
"Come on, let's go see if she'll read to us!" Lucas suggests in character. With that, he and Ash make their puppets "run" to the left edge of the stage.
"Midori, will you read us a story?" Ash begs as Juno.
"Sure..." Midori thumbs back to the beginning of the script. "And if you use your imaginations, you may just see how it unfolds. This story's called 'The Raikou, the Merchant, and the Ninetales', and it takes place on a road somewhere in a land far away from here." At this, the curtains on the puppet stage open, revealing the set of a country road with a tree off to the right.
"How beautiful!" Ash comments as Juno.
Midori just reads her next line from the book. "One day, a merchant was traveling down this road, on her way to town." At this, Misty makes her Azumarill "walk" across the stage, before the lights go down, then come up again on the same road set, only a prop cage is by the tree with Brock's Raikou puppet inside. Just as Misty's Azumarill puppet passes the "cage" with the Raikou puppet inside, Brock does a perfect imitation of a Raikou's roar, making Misty's Azumarill rear back and cower a little. "Oh, a Raikou, the Legend of Thunder himself." Midori comments. "This one had been caught in a cage by some villagers--the merchant thought nothing of it at first, as caged Raikous were a common sight in those days." Misty's Azumarill gathers its props and continues "walking"
"My good lady..." Brock calls in character as the Raikou.
"Is someone there?" Misty replies in a higher pitched version of herself, making the puppet "look" around the stage in confusion.
"Come closer, good lady..." Brock intones again.
Misty makes the Azumarill puppet turn away from the "cage". "I care nothing for your flattery, Raikou."
"But please let me out of the cage, good lady--it is quite cramped in here." Brock pleads. Happini giggles at how Brock holds out the "please"
"Why should I trust you?" Misty demands in character.
"But I'm lonely in here..." Brock sighs as the Raikou.
"Is that an evil grin on your face?" Misty asks, her Azumarill voice skeptical.
"Please! If you let me out, I will serve you to the end of time." Brock pleads. Happini and her friends laugh as the Raikou puppet nudges the Azumarill puppet from the prop cage.
"I don't know, you Raikous are known for tricking others..." Misty intones skeptically.
"Just think, I would cook your meals, wash your clothes, and nuzzle close by you at night!" Brock explains. "Just open the door, and your servant I will be."
The lights return to Juno, Sage, and Midori. "So what did the merchant do?" Lucas asks as Sage.
"The merchant was flattered at the thought of having a Raikou as a servant, and so let the Raikou out." Midori reads as Misty's Azumarill puppet opens the cage. "But no sooner had she done so, did the Raikou pounce on her!" At this, Brock's Raikou "pounces" on Misty's Azumarill.
"Did you really believe I would serve you, foolish lady?" Brock sneers in character as Misty's Azumarill "struggles." "You will make a fine meal..."
"But, Raikou, you promised!" Misty protests in character.
"What do I care about a promise?" Brock retorts as the Raikou. "If you really value your own life that much, ask a Legendary and a common Pokemon if I am justified in what I have done--if even one feels I am unjust, I will let you go...do we have a deal?"
"Yes..." Misty stammers in character as Brock's Raikou allows her puppet to get up.
"Poor merchant..." Lucas sighs in character as the lights go down.
"I don't want her to be Raikou food!" Ash agrees as Juno.
Just then, Dawn makes her Shaymin puppet emerge in the prop tree. "Look, there's Shaymin." Midori notes. "Maybe if you asked nice, she could decide the matter?"
Ash makes Juno "look" at the Shaymin puppet and asks "Shaymin, please hear and give judgement."
"On what must I judge?" Dawn asks in a higher pitched version of herself."
"A Raikou asked me to let him out of his cage, saying he would serve me for all time if I did." Misty's Azumarill explains. "When I did, he threatened to eat me. Is he justified in this?"
"Shaymin thought for a moment, then said..." Midori narrates as Dawn makes the Shaymin puppet "think".
"Humans and Pokemon often seek one of my trees for shelter on warm days, but when they are rested, they break the branches and scatter the leaves everywhere." Dawn's Shaymin replies. "The Raikou is justified, as others are so ungrateful!" Misty's Azumarill rears back at this, and trudges offstage to the babies' laughter.
"Oh no..." Ash gasps as Juno.
"The merchant then met a Ninetales on the road..." Midori narrates as Crystal makes her Ninetales puppet "walk" onstage.
"Ninetales, Ninetales, please hear and give judgement!" Lucas pleads as Sage.
"On what must I judge?" Crystal asks in a lower pitched version of herself.
"A Raikou asked me to let him out of his cage, saying he would serve me for all time if I did." Misty's Azumarill explains. "When I did, he threatened to eat me. Is he justified in this?"
"Ninetales thought long and hard, then said..." Midori narrates.
"I can't decide who is justified until I know all the facts--take me to where this injustice occured." Crystal replies in character. The lights go down at this.
"So the merchant led the Ninetales to the cage, where the Raikou was waiting." Midori reads as the lights come back up on the prop cage and Brock's Raikou as Misty's Azumarill and Crystal's Ninetales "walk" in the scene.
"Now, where were you when the injustice occured?" Crystal asks in character.
"I was right here..." Misty's Azumarill replies as it "walks" beside the right side of the prop cage.
"And the Raikou?" Crystal asks.
"He was in there." Misty's Azumarill replies, prompting Brock's Raikou to "walk" back inside the cage.
"Once the Raikou was inside the cage again, the Ninetales closed it and locked it up tight." Midori reads as Crystal's Ninetales does this. "She then scolded the Raikou, saying..."
"You ungrateful one! When this good lady let you out was eating her the only thing you could do in return?" Crystal scolds in character, making the babies laugh as Brock makes his Raikou "shudder" in fear. "You will stay in here for all time, for no one will let you out again!"
"The merchant was grateful for the Ninetales' help..." Midori reads as Misty's Azumarill and Crystal's Ninetales hug. "and the merchant went on her way, singing joyfully all the while." Misty then proceeds to sing gibberish to the tune of the reel "Off to Pastoria", making the Azumarill puppet appear to be the one singing as it "walks" offstage. "The end." Midori adds as the curtains close, leaving Juno and Sage the only puppets onstage.
"I bet the merchant was really careful around Raikous after that!" Ash comments as Juno, making the babies howl with laughter and applaud as everyone emerges from behind the puppet stage with their characters and takes a bow.
"Pini! Pini!" Happini begs.
"Encore?" Brock asks, confused.
"You'll get an encore next playdate, okay?" Ash assures the babies as they cheer.
