The Real Star This Time

This was an observation Dogasu made in his comparisons of the first three D/P episodes. I thought with the premiere only a few mere weeks away, it was a good time to advance this theory.

All the promotions put Hikari in the spotlight, and for the first time since...well, ever, fans had a legitimate reason to believe that Satoshi wasn't going to Shin'ou. Of course, that ended up not being the case, but seeing the way this first episode plays out, it's not hard to imagine what such a series would be like.

The link has the eyecatches to help with that theory in the middle of the page. To wit:

Looking at those, you really do get the feeling that Hikari is the real star of the show, don't you?

And again, in the second episode. Scroll down.

You see how Satoshi is played up as being more of a secondary character?

That made me think on how true it is at least from those initial eyecatches (and CN's promos don't help). While I haven't seen the the next batch of episodes yet, it's clear Hikari will be somewhat the focus as she'll getting her way around things. What happens after that will be the proper time to judge. Unless to those who already had watched and care to spoil me and tell me how off this all is, hmm?

I really doubt that it will be like that. Maybe they put more focus on her in the beginning, so u get to know her, and then they switch back to satoshi/ash again. would be really strange otherwise tbh.

It's strange. I had this dream where I was in Tokyo. I was in the middle of town, and there was a banner for Pokemon/Pocket Monsters in English, but it was for the Japan show. It read something like: "New Pokemon adventures! Satoshi is now a Gym Leader in Masara Town and now it's time for a new star! Follow Hikari and her adventures in the Flowender Region! New Pokemon, new adventures, new heroes! Get Pocket Monsters!" Then I just said, "I'm done with this now."

I woke up really fast, but it did get me thinking. What if Ash really became a Gym Leader in Pallet Town and Dawn was the new star of the show? For me, that would cause me to stop watching.

......You haven't seen the japanese D/P opening & ending, have you? From those alone it becomes pretty obvious that they're shoving Satoshi/Ash aside...at least for the time being. Who knows what we'll see later...

There's also the fact that Hikari/Dawn was the one to see the Legendary this time. Of course, those that know the game plot should understand why, yet...it doesn't help matters.

I have seen the OP but not in recent memory. Between this and my recent computer crash, it's outside my focus at the moment, plus Dogasu's take overrid a few things. Although, eventually, I would have caught it anyway.

And no, didn't see the ending. And I should.

I tuned in to the Pokemon DP intro episodes not knowing that Pokemon was coming out with a new season based on DP. I seriously thought that it was a whole new adventure with no Ash at all, and frankly, I liked the idea. I was really ready to watch Dawn as the main character, flanked by some guy and some girl. Maybe she meets the guy by accidentally rusting his bike and he meets the girl because she's the first gym leader Dawn has to face. JK, the new trio would have a more original creation than that. Unfortunately, Dawn wasn't starting a whole new adventure, but one can dream...

Why do people want Ash so much anyway? I haven't seen any more growth or development of his character/personality since the first few seasons.

Left is an image from the Battle Frontier opening. As you can see it as Ash's name in it(Satoshi). The picture on the right is from the DP opening. It has Ash's name as well as Hikari's name in it.
I get the feeling that Hikari has a higher status of importance than say May or Misty had.
    For example she
    Spoiler:

There are times when Hikari just stands in the background, but she does get more center attention than May or Misty.

Ash/May important ratio would be something around 75/25
whereas Ash/Hikari important ratio would be around 60/40

When Pokemon DP was first announced, it looked like the writers were going to drop the badge quest and have a story driven-plot for a change with Hikari as the main character and no Ash. Personally I would welcome this idea, not that I dislike Ash, though.

BTW. There was an ending called "I won't lose" that was fully dedicated to May.
