The Realm of Darkness:
The Vassa Region

History/Plot:
From the shadows of a large island that was, until very recently, undiscovered, a region rose full of powerful wild Pokemon and overgrown earth. Just five years previously, Vassa was a recently discovered and named region, completely uninhabited save for the Pokemon that roamed the various areas. On a fateful day in that time, a man by the name of Draconis Darc discovered the land, and from there on it became well known as a developing region. It didn't take long for Vassa to become popular, and slowly towns had sprung up all along the areas. Wild Pokemon were slowly being tamed and controlled, and the land was bowing to the will of the people that ran it. Everything was running smoothly.

Thanks to how new the cities are, they have only the best technologies of the period and are just generally well off. Many people from the smaller, less renown towns in the other regions migrated over. Slowly Vassa began to gain resources and the like. The Pokemon League took interest, and it was then that the first gyms began to be built in some of the larger towns that Vassa had to offer. Though, they did have difficulty setting the gyms up because of the geography.

The first part of the region, starting at Amber Town, is a rather grassy and plain-like area. It stays that way until you get up to about Route 306, just after Carnelian City, where it turns rocky. By the fourth town, it grows much hotter and almost unbearable because of the nearby volcano to its east. Moving just a ways away from Topaz Town (the fourth town with a gym), is Jade Forest. The ground is frosty here, and the snow and ice only gets worse as you move further on to the west of the region. As anyone could tell, it's a very dramatic region, where only the bravest people chose to go. So many were reluctant at first, which is why it took about five years before the region's Pokemon League was ready to go.

The hardest part was getting the gym leaders. None of the gym leader applicants of the region seemed to know what they were doing, so that put things off about two years. Finally they had some former gym leaders from other regions agree to come over. Some of the gym leaders have downgraded on positions (though they do not mind because they see it as a good thing, helping a starting region out) and some have risen. They all have Pokemon that can accommodate to their positions, so it truly made no difference. They all have new gym badges as well. Though the first through seventh gym leaders are well known, the eighth hides in secret. None have seen who this gym leader is, and many strive to know. That, supposedly, is a mystery that the new trainers of the Vassa Region will have to find out.

However, aside from all of the basic things, the Vassa Region is slowly falling to be the darkest regions of the world, thanks to its discoverer. He basically appointed himself, just a year before, the ruler of the region. Now the man controls the region with a dark fist. The once more hospitable and tamed wild Pokemon are slowly returning to a maddened state of rage. None have been able to best Draconis and his ultimate dark Pokemon, and that is where all of you come in.

Where You Come In:
You are the trainers, some fresh from the old region and others just starting out as trainers. A secret organization called the Alliance has appeared in the first town, Amber Town, and they are going to use you as a means of beating Darc. You, of course, are being kept in the dark about this whole thing, and are unaware that you're heading off into more peril than just having to defeat the wild Pokemon. Darc knows of the Alliance and what it is doing, and will stop at nothing to have you all murdered. It's up to all of you to save this region, and this journey will show you easily who you truly are.

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Appearance: Odessa is about 5 foot 6 inches, weighs a little under 140lbs, and is a lightly tanned Caucasian. She has black shoulder-length hair that has blue streaks throughout, as well as green eyes. She has a scar across her back from surgery to repair her spine after a car crash and has earrings with a small sapphire hanging off small gold loops on her left ear and a small ruby hanging off small gold loops on her right ear. She also sticks to wearing running shoes, a knee-length shirt, and a black t-shirt, but avoids hats and gloves.

Personality: Odessa is very smart, but this mostly gets covered up by the fact that she loves procrastinating to doing what she should be doing. Odessa also has a deep hatred for anyone or anything that can take any kind of joy from others pain. Odessa is also someone who knows that she is still experiencing the world and as such, while she holds her own views and ideas about the world close, is willing to change them based on facts and others arguments. She also tries to be kind to others, but is too easily aggravated for her own good and as such sometimes ends up snapping at others when she doesn't mean it.

History: Odessa was the last child of five children, first being a brother twelve years older, second a sister nine years older, third another sister eight years older, second a brother three years older, and last Odessa. Her two brothers and older sister all went to the various regions and had their own adventures and Odessa always aspired to do the same them. As she grew up in Cerulean city she learned to be a good trainer learning from her brothers and sisters when they came back to visit from their various journeys. While she did aspire to be a great trainer like her siblings she still wanted to retain individuality which is where her hair highlights and earrings come in.

When she became old enough to start her journey she explored the various regions of Sinnoh, Johto, and Kanto but spent most of her time exploring and training then actually collecting gym badges. With the discovery of the Vassa region Odessa has decided to entrust her Pokemon into the care of her various brothers and sisters and be the first of her family to take the Vassa Gym challenge. She hopes that she will be successful and that her success will distinguish her from her siblings.

Name: Kris Kollyns
Gender: Male
Age: 13

Appearance:
Kris has semi-long, dirty blond hair. The bangs come to a point and either cover his right eye or hang just above it. He has hazel eyes and stands at about five feet six inches while weighing about a hundred pounds. He doesn't look very strong, but is pretty strong and very agile.

Kris sometimes wears a black beanie hat that only allows his bangs show. He almost always wears a hoodie, usually his black and white checkered one that is lined with black faux fur. Concealed by his hoodie(s) is usually either a dark red or blue or jet black t-shirt. He normally wears dark black jeans and jet black sneakers with a white skull design and brown soles on them.

Personality:
Kris isn't the best when it comes to people. He is pretty anti-social and/or shy when around people. When he is around those that he does not know that are older than him, even if just by a little bit, he will usually keep his mouth shut and his head down. Though he is pretty good with little children and babies. When he is around adults he knows, he is a little more himself and and quite outgoing compared to when he's near those he does not know. When around people his age he knows, he is almost completely himself but still has those few things he keeps to himself.

He prefers pokemon over people and is very good with pokemon. They made up most of his friends when growing up since most kids either considered him to weird or too much of an...er, meanie. Kris is also sometimes very easy to anger, which is another reason people didn't really get along with him. When not showing any of these quirks he is actually very smart and friendly, while also sometimes seeming like an idiot.

History:
Kris grew up in Kanoko Town, Unova. He grew up like any other kid, a normal life, being tortured by having to go to school. He was an excellent student, but a very bad procrastinater. Other than homework, he did extremely well in school. He never made very many friends that he actually liked very much, as he was good at picking out the flaws in people and not liking them for it. He didn't really like people very much, but he loved pokemon. He didn't think flaws in pokemon were a reason to dislike them, they usually made them more likeable. Pokemon were just easier to get along with, and they accepted people for who they were. Not something you could really say about human beings in general.

He got his first pokemon at age ten. It was a Cyndaquil with blue and white flames and black fur. He began his adventure with the Cyndaquil, which he named Cinder, in his home region. He quickly gained all of the regions badges and a few contest ribbons. He didn't make it very far in the Grand Festival, but he did get second place in the pokemon league. Losing only to a girl named Luna, whom he eventually became good friends with. She was one of his few true friends. This was around when he was eleven and a half. He then ventured to the Sinnoh region, where he made the top twenty in the Grand Festival. He again only made second place in the pokemon league, losing to a girl named Miharu. When he heard about the Vassa region, he made that his next destination.

Name: Daphne Georgopoulos
Gender: Female
Age: 16

Appearance: Daphne is, and will most likely always be, short. She's a meter and a half, well, at most 1.55, she's not measured herself for about two years being too afraid to find out she probably didn't grow more than two-three centimeters. That's more-or-less how she works, if she can't see it it's not there. Her skin is on the pale side and that being said, she burns rather easily too. Most of her limbs are small, small hands and feet, small posture, small chest, small head. Her face is round, with a little button nose and small, thin lips. The only things big about her face are her big brown eyes and her rather large ears. Good thing she has the tools to hide those ears.

Her hair is a mess of strawberry blonde curls, cut a little above her shoulders and quite effectively hiding her ears. She's looooong since given up and taming it and is just as happy if it looks presentable. She does have straight-cut bangs have a part on the right that she straightens like it's her mission! Which is also the reason why she packed said straightener to take with her. None shall see her with fuzzy bangs. And lastly she usually wears a black headband with on the left side a big flower made of both solid black and a rough, gausy and sparkly silver fabric with a round black bead in the middle keeping it all in place, though the latter is often hidden by the frilly fabric. This headband doesn't serve to keep any hear back but it keeps her from pushing her hair behind her ears. It's a habit she has, especially a nervous one, but the fact that the headband is behind her ears makes her less likely to expose said ears. And no one should ever see her ears.

With her overly girl personality, which will be elaborated on in the next section, comes quite the girly wardrobe as well. For this journey she's decided to wear a sky-blue top with an empire waist going over in a shapeless-flowey part that hides the curves-she-doesn't-have. On the main part of the dress is a big black butterfly and the top of it has black lace. Under that she wears white fabric shorts with more black lace at the bottom. Though the loopies on the right side she put a large and strong black ribbon with little rings for Pokéball. Since she's right-handed they're all on her right side. Underneath the shorts she wears blac, see-through tights against the cold, although she may learn to regret this choice once she reaches colder grounds. Then she has sturdy brown boots with a good grip on the ground. Not her choice of footwear, mind you, but her mother made her see sense in that wearing high heels, even if they did make her taller, was not the way to go when crossing the country. In the same way her mother made her see enough sense to take the old and faded brown leather jacket with her, the jacket that was padded for warmth. She refuses to close it, as that would prevent people from seeing her rather pretty top, but she does recognize that travelling over a country that can be rather cold in a spaghetti-strap top is not the smartest option.

Daphne wears a watch on her left wrist. Not a Pokétch or any other fancy technical thing, just a plain clockwork watch with a brown leather band. She wears it with the face on the underside of her wrist, checking the time becomes much cooler that way. She hasn't had her ears pierced, not even wanting to show said ears to a jeweler. Besides, wearing earrings would mean showing said ears. She does have a silver necklace with a little equally silver butterfly necklace however, together with a black ribbon tied like a chocker, bow up front. And lastly is her purse. Her purse is rather large for being a purse and it's made off of pretty patch-work brown tones with a black strap. She also has a pair of longer straps inside it that she can clip on, that way she can wear the bag over her shoulders if she needs her hands or needs it to be secure. Inside it is the usual survival stuff (Like fold-up tent barely big enough for one [Of which she didn't bring the skeleton, as she thought all those sticks were completely unnecessary] and a torch and matches) and some things that aren't survival-related (like that killer bikini and her straightening iron). And with all of that, she's ready to rumble!


Personality: As previously stated, Daphne is girly to the bones. If she didn't know any better she'd think her bones were tinged pink (but she did know better since she once broke her bone and it was sticking out of her flesh and it was really white, though a bit red too from being bloody, and had been totally gross). She loves things fluffy and cute, and this includes her Pokémon. She gets incredibly excited easily and when she's excited she starts babbling even more than she does naturally and gets completely hyped up. She strictly believes in the "If I can't see it it's not there" theory and sometimes tries to wish things way by closing her eyes firmly and pretending it's not there. It's never worked so far but she has hopes.

She has a very fleeting mind. One moment she's on earth and one moment her mind is God-knows-where. She tends to ramble and think out loud to the point that people passing by may doubt her sanity, as well as she's incredibly honest and therefore incredibly tactless. She's also completely and utterly clueless and oblivious. The whole world could be dying and she probably wouldn't notice it until someone points it out to her. It all depends on how distracted she is at the moment. Same goes for sarcasm, if her mind's not there it'll blow right over her head. Also she has the most creative way to avoid swearing.

Battle-wise Daphne has a lot to learn. She doesn't at all understand non-offensive moves and is the kind of person to tell her Pokémon to just "Hit it… or something." In fact she has a lot to learn about Pokémon in general, and about learning to be responsible for something other than herself. Actually Daphne just has a lot to learn about everything.


History: Daphne hadn't always lived in Vassa, in fact it was but a recent development. Her father, Alexandors Georgopoulos, more commonly known as Alex, is a plumber while her mother, Joanne Georgopoulos/Whitaker, more commonly known as Jo, was a kindergarten teacher turned house-wife turned kindergarten teacher again. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Daphne was their first child, born in the Goldenrod hospital, and for a long time to be their only child.

They lived in Goldenrod for a little while, but the big city was not a place for a child to grow up, and they soon agreed to move. At the time Vassa was relatively new and plumbing was needing. Alexandros Georgopoulos went where the plumbing went. And the plumbing went to Amber Town. So the young couple with their little three-year-old fat toddler went to Amber town. Things went great and their fat toddler grew into a skinny child who then grew into a skinny pre-teen. That's when things went a little less well.

Jo got pregnant with a second baby and the couple fought a lot. It was an accidental pregnancy and Jo blamed Alex. Alex is very bad with dealing with conflicts and usually hid from them, agitating hormonal Jo even more. After giving birth Jo went into postnatal depression while Alex took care of baby Georgio Georgopoulos. After more fights and more tension Jo took baby Georgio and pre-teen Daphne and left for her sister's, who had also been living in Amber city. A few months later divorce papers were signed and the newly renamed Joanne Whitaker went back to being a kindergarten teacher while Alex moved to Cardelian City to resume his plumbing career.

Alas Daphne, throughout all of this, took it fairly well. She regularly went to visit her father and normally lived with her mother. She loved the visits to her father as Cardelian city was a lot bigger than Amber Town and her a tad socially-awkward father wasn't very strict at all. It was he who convinced her mother to let her go on a Pokémon journey like "All the other cool kids were doing". Alas, armed with a mobile phone and halo of worries from the parental front Daphne left her now toddler brother (but still baby brother to her) and her mother to join the big adventure, like all those cool kids were doing!

Gender: Male
Age: 15
Appearance: Garith, tall, muscular, blond hair. About 5'9 and still growing Garith has light blond hair that covers his eyes, ears and stop at his shoulders. His eyes are a light blue but because of his hair most people do not see them. Garith doesn't care much for appearance so most of the time his hair looks like a tumble weed on a persons head but lately he has been trying to tame it a bit so he can see better. Garith facial expression is just a blank depressing stair into the abyss as if he was reliving a horrbile memory over and over again. A first glance at him and a person would say he's just an empty shell like all the happiness was drained from him. Garith doesn't care much for appearance he wears two colors black and dark gold. A black long sleeved jacket with a dark gold stripe going vertically down on the right side. Black jeans and black shoes with a gold stripe going along the bottom rim. A dark gold shirt he wears under the jacket. Garith will sometimes zip up the jacket and spike his collar to hide his face.
Personality: Garith is silent but, kind to people and pokemon alike. He doesn't talk much and usually never speaks a word but he will speak when needed. Garith is kind person at heart and will help those and need. He usually keeps his emotions bottled up and if something is bothering him he keeps it to himself. He believes actions speaks louder than words and can tell how someone acts and feels by observing their body language. Garith hates attention, big groups and talkative people Garith loves quiet and being left alone. The only thing that Garith really communicates to are pokemon he loves pokemon and everything about them. He's kind toward pokemon and sometimes smiles when he's around them. Other than that Garith is quiet doesn't talk much and has a soulless look on his face
History: Garith was born in Vassa ten years before the pokemon league got interest in Vassa and lived with his mother in Amber Town he's father had died the day before his birth for unknown reasons. Garith was taught about pokemon from his mother Kailey, his mother taught Garith maybe one day he would become a trainer when the pokemon league sets everything up. During the 5 years it took the league to get settled Garith studied everything he could learn about pokemon living in Vassa and the other regions. The age of ten Garith knew that's was the age most trainers started their journey but unfortunately it was delayed another two years. During those two years his mother got very ill. For the next five years Garith took care for his mother until a neighboring friend said it was time he went out on his pokemon journey and took over for him. As Garith got ready to leave his mother said to become the best trainer ever and never give up. Garith is now determine to become the best trainer ever and nothing was going to stand in his way

Gender: Female

Age: 16

Ethnicity: Asian (Japanese)

Appearance: Miharu has short, black hair which reaches to the bottom of her neck. She likes keeping it short so it doesn't get into her eyes and she doesn't have any bangs. She also has purely black eyes which can unnerve people at times, she can use that to her advantage when she doesn't want to be bothered. She has a yellowish skin colour and has very definite muscles from the various martial arts training she has had. She is 5'5" and wears about 110 pounds. She usually wears all black; a black t-shirt and long black slacks, but sometimes she would mix in a little blue as well. She doesn't own or wear any jewelry or any other accessories.

Personality: Miharu is usually very taciturn, unless the situation calls for it. She cares very deeply for pokemon, but will probably not help out anyone unless their lives are really in danger. She believes that hard experience will either make the person the best they could be, or break them. She likes to blend into the background and doesn't really like to be noticed. She can have a temper, but she can usually calm down by breathing in and out deeply, or listening to music. She doesn't speak unless addressed first, and is usually very polite to people older than her, unless she decides that they haven't earned her respect.

History: Miharu was born in Pallet Town, Kanto and started out in her home region. She managed to get all eight gym badges, but lost in the top sixteen. She then went to Johto where she got other gym badges, but didn't challenge the Indigo league again. She then made her debut in the Hoenn region, making it to the semi-finals but lost. Afterwords, she managed to get into the Sinnoh tournament and beat a boy named Kris in order to win the tournament. She then challenged the Elite Four, won, but lost against Cynthia, whom she has become friends with. She has decided to challenge Vassa now.

Notes: Knows English, Japanese, Korean, Khmer, and French. Has an IQ of 200; she is pretty much one of those "born smart" geniuses who usually don't have to work hard in order to perfect anything that has to do with memorization and learning new things. She usually thinks things through, very quickly, before doing anything and she can usually get information by just reading people or picking up small context clues or hidden messages in the words. Has studied different martial arts and has incorporated most of them into her own fighting style. She can use practically anything around her as a weapon.

Name: Lenny Taylor

Gender: Male

Age: 15

Appearance: He's bald, plain and simple. Lenny is very sensitive about it because when he was younger people made fun of him because of it. It wasn't his fault that hair never grew on his head, which is why he often hides his head with a beanie. He has thick, black, square framed, glasses which he is proud to wear. Lenny usually wears a button up, red and white striped, long sleeve sweater and black jeans. He wears a locket around his neck, given to him by his best friend after he moved away.

Personality: He is very sensitive and takes almost everything that comes out of people's mouths seriously. Lenny overacts a lot, especially at jokes. He doesn't get jokes, so he isn't the funnest person to be around. He is quiet when he first meets, someone, but quickly opens up. Lenny has anger issues, and has been to counseling and anger management to control his anger. When battling he tires to keep his cool, but when he is "driven over the edge" his anger affects his battling.

He cares a lot about Pokemon, a soft spot to be exact. Lenny enjoys playing with them. He also enjoys reading and running. He isn't very "athletic" (he can't play sports well) and his only strong point in the athletic department is his running.

He keeps a diary around and carries it around everywhere he goes. It's where he spills out all his emotions, his days, and secrets. At first he never bothered about diaries, but after the urging from the people at counseling and anger management class he got one. He writes in it when ever he can, and when he runs out of pages inside his diary where he can write he buys a new one and mails the finished diary to his councilors.

History: He lived in the Hoenn region, the youngest of three brothers and two sisters. Lenny's mom was a retired coordinator who became a flower shop owner. His dad is a human doctor.

Lenny was always a moody person and sensitive, even when he was a child. He didn't take up counseling until a year before he was supposed to go on his journey. He didn't have many friends because he could never understand jokes that people often cracked and because people always made fun of the fact that he was bald. He guessed the fact that people made fun of him because he was bald evolved into his sensitivity and anger issues.

He has journeyed through Hoenn gaining all the eight badges (and a couple of contest ribbons.), but he lost in the semi-finals of the league. Lenny then back tracked to Johto and managed to win the league out of luck at the last second. He is now in Vassa hoping to take on the league and actually get five contest ribbons.
