    The Sanctum Rangers

The Region of Kawdor was a peaceful place, many cities blossomed and the people were happy and free. However, 40 years ago there was a great disturbance in the region to the south, Kanto - a massive volcanic explosion had devastated Cinnabar Island and forced the Pokémon inhabiting the region north.

Previously Kawdor was a Pokémon free zone, the monsters hadn't managed to cross the valley separating the two regions. But with disaster looming back in Kanto they no longer had a choice.

Unprepared for such an invasion, and having to deal with the beasts even more dangerous than before due to their panic, Kawdor suffered greatly. Cities had to be evacuated and eventually only one place stood safe: Sanctuary City. However the great gems of Kawdor were lost, far from the reach of the city.

Surrounded by thick forest, strong city boundaries and the protection of the Sanctum Rangers it was the only safe haven in the region. It took many years to establish enough Pokémon knowledge to recreate equipment that they had heard of from the regions further south.

Since the invasion the Sanctum Rangers have had a new mission, to push the boundaries of the city out and isolate the lost Crystals. Nobody knows why the Elders and the Scientists need the Crystals, but they promise finding all 8 will allow the people of Sanctuary to escape to Kanto.

Your story begins as you wake up on the first day of Ranger Training, you better get over to the Sanctum Building before you miss your chance!

    ~*~*~
You've always wanted to be a Sanctum Ranger, and once you have completed training you can go out on missions to help save Sanctuary. Each Ranger gets a partner Pokémon when they begin training, together they learn the skills needed to survive in the wild.

    ~*~

This RP will work like this:

    Rules and information:
    General:

~ Each 'Day' there will be a task to complete, as well as completing the task you can interact with given NPCs, your own side characters or other players.
~ Each Day in the RP is equivilent to a week in real life. If requested then this may be shorter (if all players are active and so want to move faster).
~ Some areas will be given maps to help you visualise the place.
~ Progression with the RP is dictated by me, the GM. This includes the outcomes of battles and rewards.
~ At the finding of a Crystal each player will be evaluated an given special rewards. This may include evolutions, rare items, moves or HM Skills (see below).
~ Do not God-Mod other players characters, any interactions should either be approved by both players before the post (and noted at the beginning) or left on a cliff hanger for the other character to respond.

    Pokémon:
~ Pokémon received from the ranger training all begin at level 5 with their movepool according to Serebii's updated Pokédex. If you don't know your moves then ask.
~ Must be an unevolved Pokémon, but does not have to be a baby if it's part of a three stage chain (You can be Clefairy instead of Cleffa but not Weepingbell instead of Bellsprout or Snorlax instead of Munchlax).
~ Cannot be a single staged Pokémon sorry.
~ Pokémon may learn a total of 6 moves before they must forget them, to make the possibilities more diverse.
~ HM moves do not count as attacks, but as skills. Flying Pokémon cannot fly from the beginning and neither can Water Pokémon surf.
    ~ No Generation 5 Pokémon.

    Battles:
~ As the player you may start (wild) battles on your own, however the battles should be left on a 'finishing move' where it could go either way. I will then announce the result and you rewards. (In most cases you'll win :P)
~ Competitive battles with NPC's follow the same sequence.
~ Later on in the RP you may be able to battle each other, then the decision for who wins will fall to the RPers.

End date: 26th July - SIGN UPS STILL OPEN, PLEASE PM.
    Spoiler:

    Day One: Ranger Training.
    (Continued)
    End Date: Monday 9nd August

    Battle Results:

Using a great combination of Ember and Tailwhip Renyard the Vulpix defeated the wild Sentret, gaining vital battle experience. It's trainer Sara moved on to the next challenge, beating a ranger in an official battle. Jake was a fierce opponent with his Riolu, however Vulpix's agility overcame the Pokémon's speedy attacks.

    • Renyard matured to level 6!

Luck was on his side as John's Machop managed to topple the wild Shroomish with a well placed attack. Although Low Kick was his only fighting attack Machop used it wisely. Against the quick Rock-type Onix Low Kick was very useful, helping bring the great beast down despite it's surprising speed.

    • Machop matured to level 6!

The Wild Pidgey was no match for Archie as a great typing match led to easy victory. Against the bat-Pokémon Zubat Mervin's Trapinch proved itself yet again, exchanging bites each time the opponent flew in.

    • Archie matured to level 6!
    • Archie learned the move Sand-Attack!

Tyan the Larvitar began it's battling with an enemy Taillow with a fierce Sandstorm followed by a terrifying bite - it didn't take long for the wild Pokémon to succumb. Another Ranger's Spheal was much more of a challenge, however good use of the environment proved key to Scott's victory.

    • Tyan matured to level 6!

Zippo utilised his moves well, burning the wild Ekans with a strong ember. Brantley used his knowledge about Pokémon moves to raise his Houndour's attack further, making a Ranger's Hoothoot another simple win for the duo.

    • Zippo matured to level 6!

Shinx' inexperience proved a problem in it's battle against a wild Bellsprout, however because of Arturo's quick instructions the Shinx managed to tackle the enemy until it fainted. Against a Ranger's Growlithe Shinx shone yet again, dodging the opponent's Ember and landing enough hits to put him out of the battle.

    • Shinx matured to level 6!

Professor Acacia was proud to see the victorious trainees arriving back at the Sanctum building. Six had been successful so far and he was hoping that more would follow.

"Well done so far Rangers, you have proved yourselves worthy of that title now. With these titles come some tools and uniforms," he motioned to the table behind him, covered in sets of equipment. "Take whatever you need for now, the rest will be given to you on site at your first mission."

"Speaking of which, since you are all here now, it makes sense that you stay together as a group. There is always strength in numbers - even if sometimes you need to fend for yourselves," he nodded as he spoke, approving his own words, "At the moment we are exploring the ground beyond the West Gate. There are a few areas of interest that I'd like you to record."

Behind him a screen flickered, a rough map projected on the wall.

    Spoiler:

"The first stage of your Mission is to make it across the river. Scouting teams managed to build a bridge recently so you can cross over. Once there you can rest for the night and progress into the Vertical Caverns tomorrow, there is something we wish for you to obtain there."

"There will be other Rangers protecting the border, you can ask them for help if you get lost, remember though - the key to being a Sanctuary Ranger is survival! Know what to eat, when to rest and most importantly how you can use the grounds to your advantage." His speech lacked the enthusiasm it once held, which had drained after years of repetition, "Now get going! Good luck!" With that he marched out of the room, departing to his quarters up stairs.

Mission 1: Set up Camp outside Vertical Cavern.

    Equipment on the table:
    - One Pokéball each,
    - One pair of Ranger boots each,
    - Ranger ID cards,
    - A set of three Potions for each trainer,
    - A Berry Identification book for each trainer, accompanied by a sweet pink berry.

    ~*~

    Area Summary:
Controllable NPCs: Receptionist, Sanctum Building Scientists.

Areas: West Gate House, Route West (as mapped), Camping Ground (goal).

Wild Battles: Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, Kakuna, Surskit, Rattata, Budew, Burmy, Starly, Ledyba, Seedot.

    Trainer Battles: None.

    Weather: Bright with sparse clouds.

Please remember to keep any battle open and wait for a GM post (which should come in within 24 hours, if not please VM/PM me) until announcing a winner.

Also some movepools have been altered to make it more fair as they level up, as Trapinch has very few moves for a while. If you think there is a problem then please also tell me!

Remember No Pokémon can Surf (yet) so the house and route to the north-west are inaccessible.

    ~*~

Any questions then please ask! ^_^

    (Will finish this soon)

    Name: Sara Goodman
    Age: 20
Appearance: Sara is around five foot seven inches. She has a slim build and almost no muscles. Her hair is red and goes to the mid of her back, though it is usally in a pony tail. Her eyes are small and of a grey color on her oval face. She usually wears a red t-shirt with a large white stripe in the middle and plain blue jeans with white brown boots and socks. Lasly, Sara usually has a necklace with a metal skitty head on the end.
Personality: Sara is usually very quiet and keeps to herself. She is very independent and usually doesn't socilize much, mostly reading or listening to some music. It doesn't help either that she is very sensitive and cares a bit too much about what others think. Though she does care about Pokemon and other people who she likes. She can be some what reluctant to help even in these cases, but will help if they are in serious danger.
Short Bio: Sara was born and raised in Sanctuary City. Her father started up a pretty sucessful buisness growing and selling rare berries. For the first ten years of her life, Sara mostly spent the time reading and doing activities on her own. She was afraid to make friends do to what she thought others would think of her. It didn't help matters much that her parents always pressured her to do well, yet never gave her any confidence or compliment anything she did. This made her futher alienate herself.

Things only got worse after her 11th birthday, when her parents decided that she would be a ranger. From then on, they put extra pressure on her getting into sports and getting more exercise. But Sara never did well at sports, especially team sports, and she couldn't really do much exercize with out having to stop soon. However, her vast knowlege of Pokemon did giver her parents some hope of getting into the rangers, so they continued to put the pressure on her. Of course, Sara did everything to dely joining but her parents finally put their foot down on her 20th birthday. So, the day has finally arrived for Sara to join the rangers...

Would something like a tauros or a lapras be acceptable as a starter?

Hmm, I really wish they had Pre-Evos because I'm going to have to say no. I'll clarify it in the rules sorry.

Single stage Pokémon will have to be caught/acquired else where in the game.

    I'll give this a try

    Name: John Grigson
    Age:19
Appearance: John is a lean man standing at about 6 feet and 2 inches. He has short jet black hair that doesn't go below his ears and chocolate brown eyes. John doesn't have much muscle mass but manages to hide that fact with his bulky brown jacket, usually worn with a white undershirt, jeans, and white sneakers.

Personality: A complete workaholic, John has striven for his entire life to become a Sanctum Ranger. He has worked towards his goal for most of his life, pushing friendship and even family to the side in order to reach this point. He sees the Sanctum Rangers as heroes and will do anything to become a great Ranger. Usually cold to coworkers, John has moved closer and closer to his goal based on the quality of his work.

Bio: Born on the outskirts of Sanctuary City, John had plenty of opportunities to watch Sanctum Rangers heading out into the field growing up. He saw the men who kept him and his family safe at all costs and began to idolize them. John moved out of the house not long after his father died last year and now lives in a small apartment not far from the Sanctum building. John is not on good terms with his mother and sister who still live at home.

    Pokemon Obtained: Machop
    Introductory post:

John was almost crushed in the surge forward produced by the start of the challenges. He ignored it. After all, the fools who rushed ahead didn't realize that the important factor was not speed, but success. Most of them seemed so sure of their own victory that they would charge right ahead at the enemy. That might work against the weak wild pokemon but any half-decent trainer could use that opening to end that hopeful's run. Care was necessary with something as important as this. John had to succeed here. His cash supply was running thin; he couldn't afford to stay in that apartment much longer. He decided that he had stood back for long enough and walked forward to collect his ticket and challenge his first opponent.

John immediately noticed that this was no simple arena. the field was more of a forest, with trees covering much of the circular field. Despite not seeing his opponent, John released Machop onto the field and prepared for battle. The small fighter seemed keen on battling something, anything, and John began to wonder where this wild pokemon was. Suddenly a Shroomish popped out from the brush and charged Machop. The fighting-type fell over with Shrromish from the tackle, but quickly threw the small mushroom creature off and used a low kick to trip it. John began to worry now. Machop was still a young fighter and low kick was basically the only attack he was confident using. The Shroomish would go down eventually but would machop take too much damage before his next fight?

John realized that nothing had happened while he was thinking. He looked down and noticed that the Shroomish was still rolling around trying to get back on its feet. Thanks to its tiny legs and its wide middle, the Mushroom creature had been unable to get up.

"Well aren't we lucky." said John. He nodded to Machop and the two of them walked on to the next room. This room was fairly different from the one before, with the circular field now rocky and mostly clear. Also different from before was the trainer across from John, a middle-sized man wearing Ranger gear.

"Kid, if you think that this time you'll face a tiny little mushroom then you are in a world of trouble" shouted the man. John shrugged; this guy was just trying to rile up rookies into making mistakes by trash talking. He was a better trainer than those newbies, he could handle some words. The Ranger showed he did more than just talk by releasing his Onix onto the field. A massive snake made of stone whose head nearly scrapped the ceiling of the arena, Onix glared down at Machop. The little fighter looked right at the rock snake with the same kind of intensity. in his glare.

This is too perfect. Thought John, Machop's low kick will be able to bring this massive beast down in an instant. But before he could issue the order Onix moved like quicksilver, grabbing machop in a bind. Now John was really worried. Could Machop get free of the rock creature's grasp before he fainted? Surprisingly the fighter was not trying to wrestle his way free, rather he seemed to be gathering his energy for one big escape. Suddenly Machop pushed out and freed himself from the Onix's bind almost immediately. John did not stop to think this time.

    "Machop, Low Kick!"

Five minutes later John was walking up to one of his greatest idols, the renowned Professor Acacia. This man had been one of the leaders of the Sanctum Rangers since before John was born. Acacia was one of the foremost experts on pokemon in the world, and given the problems Kawdor was having the Sanctum was glad to have him. John gathered himself and spoke to the Professor.

"Hello sir, I'm John Grigson and I have completed both of my challenges."

    Name: Mervin Sebastian Kaiser III

    Age: 20

Appearance: Mervin stands 5 feet 1 inch tall. He is rather thin, with large hands and feet. His hair is short and black, with a single red stripe down the middle. His eyes are purple. He wears black leather shoes, black slacks, a purple button-up shirt with a red tie, and a black overshirt. He wears a pair of goggles around his neck.

Personality: Mervin is arrogant. He enjoys every moment of his life, confident in his superiority. He is a bit of a thrill-seeker, and quite reckless. He is quite boistrous, and some enjoy spending time with him. He is far from the perfect being he believes himself to be, and is not very intelligent, jumping directly at every challenge.

Short Bio: Mervin comes from a wealthy family, and his father was a successful Ranger in his prime. Mervin was practically guaranteed a spot in the Academy. He believes his sole purpose in life is to continue his family's legacy of power and respect. On his 20th birthday, Mervin left for the Academy, ready to follow and even surpass his father's footsteps.

    Name: Scott Laywood

    Age: 18

Appearance: Scott is quite tall for his age, about 6'5" as of his last visit to the doctor. Even though he is lax in his ways, he is fairly muscular from years of his habits. His brown hair is cut back slightly, enough for people to see his emerald green eyes. Most of the time Laywood is seen in a slight brown trench coat for secrecy, and underneath could be anything he feels like wearing that day. He never was one for fashion sense

Personality: Scott's main ideal about life is to make it as fun as possible, but not so much energy. He almost never thinks things through, just jumping into situations. Of course, this causes him a lot of problems, especially when the decisions he makes effect others. This kind of thinking however makes him one of the more creative men in the world. As long as he had a good time, that's a win in Scott's book.

Short Bio: Scott had lived his entire life in the center of Sanctuary City, a part of what some could call the "slums" of the town. Tired of his life at home with nothing to do, he went out and began to take part in extreme sports, living the edgy life he would come to be known for. Of course, his parents didn't enjoy this and kicked him out after his 16th birthday.

With nothing else to do, Laywood began to roam freely, taking frequent visits to the outskirts of Sanctuary City and even into the wilderness to explore. When he found out about the Sanctuary Rangers looking for new recruits, he figured this would be the best possible way to get some fun into his life.

    Name: Brantley Ortega

    Age: 19

Appearance: he stands 5 feet 8 inches, and weighs 137 pounds. He has blonde-brown hair that curls to the right with blue-grey eyes. He wears a black fitted hat with two gold C's on the front and R.I.P B.T. on the back. His eyes flicker between the two colors depending on the light. He wears dark blue sand blasted bootcut jeans, and an aqua and white wide striped polo, and brown plaid toms. He has a black book bag that has his name on it in red.

Personality: He is abstract in thought and speech, cooperative in striving for his ends, and informative and introverted in their interpersonal relations. He presents a seemingly tranquil, and noticeably pleasant face to the world, and though to all appearances he might seem reserved, and even shy, on the inside he is anything but reserved, having a capacity for caring freely-about a few special persons or a favorite cause, and his fervent aim is to bring peace and integrity to their loved ones and the world. (IMFP Healer)

Short Bio: He was born in the Kanto Region, but moved like the pokémon to the Kawdor Region. He overheard some people talking about the new rangers, so he decided to try to get in it. He asked his parents, and they said yes. On his Nineteenth birthday, he got a book that had all known pokemon, and their moves so he carries that with him always studying every pokemon just to know.

He and his little brother, B.T., always go outside and play whatever his little brother wants to. His brother always wanted to do something like be a ranger, so he was the one that motivated him to do it. All the time Brantley would tease B.T.. One day B.T. dropped limp in Brantley's arms. They took him to the hospital, nut it was too late, he was dead. In honor of B.T. the week before try outs Brantley trained like the actual rangers do to prepare him for his tests.

    Pokemon: Zippo, the Houndour

Introductory Post: "Brantley wake up! You're going to be late for your tests!" Brantley's mom said. Brantley quickly got dressed and rushed to Sanctum Building.

Wow what a crowd. Are all of these people want to be rangers? I'd better get in line. He walked to the line. The doors swung open all of a sudden when the crowd rushed in like a pack of wolves on a wounded moose. He walked in and registered. He got a ticket saying he was number eighty one.

Not too bad I might be one of the last, but oh well. He sat for about twenty minutes when he heard eighty-one please come upstairs. He got up to walk the steps when he heard the receptionist say good luck.

He saw people get pokémon balls, so he wondered which one he would get. I hope I get a water type I hear they are the best. He got to the people handing out the balls when he heard the scientist say it is a male houndour. Please head upstairs for your first test.

Once he got upstairs he saw a battle field. He walked into the room that had trees all over the place. "OK Houndour, go!" Brantley said. The ball released a little pokémon that looked like a little puppy. All of a sudden the houndour was taken down by a blur. The houndour got up to see a purple snake hissing at it. Then a voice said this in an ekans now take it out.

"Houndour, use Ember!" Brantley said. The dog let out a series of little flames that started to burn the ekans hiding place. "Now use howl!" The houndour let out a howl that sent shivers down Brantley's back. The Ekans started to slither towards the houndour when the command was given to use ember again. This time it hit the snake right on target when it coiled up and fell over.

"Good job, now go outside to battle square for your next battle." The voice said. Brantley and Houndour walked out proud of their win. "I think I'll call you Zippo because you are like a lighter."

The two walked outside to see a girl on the other side in a disgusted pose. "Took you long enough; what did you do eat lunch then dinner." The girl spat.

"Let's just battle." Brantley spat back. The two threw there poke balls releasing Zippo and a Hoothoot.

"Hoothoot use tackle now!" She said. The owl rushed forward, and hit the houndour full force. "Ha ha your houndour can't do anything."

"Zippo, now that it's close, use ember." Brantley said ignoring her remarks. Zippo hit the target on the spot sending it backwards. Its wing was burning.

"You burned Hoothoot!" She was surprised at houndour's strength. The owl started to weaken up

"Zippo, use howl." The dog's howl sent a shock down hoothoot's back that stunned it. The order was given to use ember once more. He shot the flame, but it was off by just enough to miss. Hoothoot rushed in another attempt to hit houndour, but fell down right before he got to him.

"No! Hoothoot get up come on!" The girl screamed in desperation.

"It is over I have won." Brantley said calmly, "Zippo you did great you deserve a rest." The dog was returned into the pokéball. He went inside to tell of his victories to the Professor. He got to Professor Acacia, and told of his victories.

    Name: Arturo Smith
    Age: 19
    Appearance:
Arturo stands 6' 2". He has short light brown hair with black streaks. In low light, his eyes are dark brown, in normal light they are hazel. He normally wears light blue jeans and a plain black tee-shirt, with scruffy red sneakers. Sometimes he also wears a dark orange jacket. He's muscular, and has a sad glint in his eyes. His hands are rough and scarred (See bio), and he sometimes stumbles over his words.

    Personality:
Quiet and shy, aside from his looks. Very hard-working and determined. He will work as hard as he can to fulfill his orders, even if it kills him. However, he will always put his Pokémon before anything else. Very clever, but never shows it. Very bad at making friends and getting in fights. If he can and he wants to, he will walk away without fear. Never looks back on the past. He'd rather forget it, even good memories.

    Short Bio:
Born in a poor, unhappy family, Arturo had a rough childhood. He was the most unpopular in the class, with absolutely no friends. His parents put him to work in their family owned house building business. His hands began to hurt so much, he stayed home from school so his hands would heal.

By high school, he was getting F's. However, a Sanctum Ranger saw his pain, and taught him a bit of knowledge, enough to get him along. The F's became D's, but Arturo still struggled. He finally dropped out of high school, and tried to teach himself. He then hoped to become a Sanctum Ranger, because of the Ranger who helped him. He plans to find the Ranger and thank him.

    Introductory Post:

Arturo struggled through the writhing mass of people at the entrance to the Sanctum building. Without a word, he managed to grab a spot in line. The line moved quickly, and soon he was in front.
"42. Next!" The employee told Arturo. Arturo scrambled out of line, tripping over his own feet.
    42. 42. 42. His eyes flicked up to the screen, and he watched numbers appear and disappear swiftly. The highest number was 17, and the lowest 1. Twenty-five more numbers and it was Arturo's turn. 42. 42.
"Hey! You. What's your name?" A random kid walked up.
    "Uh...me?" Arturo replied, blinking.
"No. I was asking your hair. Yeah, you!" The kid said sarcastically.
    "A-Arturo. Arturo Smith."
"Nice. Smith, eh? See ya 'round." Arturo glanced toward the screen. 20. Arturo sighed. This would be a long wait.

42 flashed across the screen above Arturo's head. He quickly walked up the stairs.
"Hello, young man! 42, I presume?" A man asked him, he was extremely old, with happy blue eyes and a kind smile.
    "Yes, sir." Arturo answered quickly.
"Okay. I'm sorry, 42, but there's a bit of a wait. Some battles go over the preset time, and we can't overwrite our system in a blink of an eye! Especially in this chaos." The man chuckled and led Arturo into a small waiting room. Two other kids were there, yawning, bored. After about one minute, Arturo was the next person to be called.
"42?" The woman called, pushing her lens higher on her face.
    "Y-y-yes?" Arturo stuttered.
    "Here is your Pokémon, 42."
"It's Arturo." Arturo said clearly, having new confidence now that he held his pokéball.
"Ah, yes, Arturo. In you go. Oh! It's a Shinx." The woman said, leading Arturo inside.

It was a grassy area with bushes and ferns on all sides. Trees loomed up where the arena opened to the sky. Arturo heard a stream trickle near by. With a flash of light, Shinx appeared.
"Shinx!" The Flash Pokémon cried happily.
"Hello. I'm Arturo. Now, stay alert. Something's coming, and we have to defeat it." Arturo informed the Shinx, walking slowly to the center of the clearing. Shinx followed warily behind, glancing around.
"Bellsprout!" The shrill cry pierced the air. The green Pokémon rushed forward, a vine at the ready. Arturo leaped back.
"Dodge and use tackle!" Arturo ordered. Shinx rushed forward, and dodged at the last second. He turned and tried to tackle the Bellsprout, but slipped. Arturo watched intently, as Bellsprout turned and whipped Shinx expertly.
"Leer!" Shinx did as told. Bellsprout froze for a second, giving time for Shinx to position himself. "Now, tackle!" Shinx hurled himself forward, and Bellsprout was thrown across the area. It twitched, obviously weakened.
"Tackle." Arturo said silently, staring as the battle came to a close. Bellsprout thrashed around trying to stand up, but it kept slipping around. Shinx collided with it, and it bashed against a tree. The doors at the end of the arena slid open, and Arturo walked forward, Shinx solemnly following.

"Growlithe! Go!" The Ranger threw his Pokéball forward. The Puppy Pokémon puffed out his chest and barked proudly. "Ember!"
"Dodge!" Shinx raced forward, alongside the flames. "Tackle!" The Growlithe skid backwards slightly, then shook it's head.
"Bite!" The Ranger called angrily. Growlithe sank it's teeth into Shinx. Shinx cried out angrily and thrashed away.
"Shinx! Get away and tackle!" The Shinx slipped out of the Growlithe's grip and tackled the Growlithe angrily. "Tackle! Again! Again!" Arturo cheered. Shinx rammed Growlithe once more, and Growlithe was defeated.
"Congrats kid! You did it!" Arturo looked behind him. A graying man with a youthful, kind smile rushed forward. "That Shinx is yours! You passed!"
Arturo stared at the man. I'm...a ranger? I have a Shinx? Arturo grinned at the Professor and introduced himself, "Arturo Smith."

    Day One: Ranger Training.
    (Continued)
    End Date: Monday 2nd August

John could not have been more excited walking out of the meeting room. A mission on the first day! He could get to work immediately now. Still, he had some doubts about the team he had been placed with. Scott and Archie were complete opposites in terms of height, with Scott standing tall above even John while Archie barely reached 5 feet, yet according to what he had heard both were impetuous young men. John knew that the forests could easily claim a Ranger's life; there was no room for compulsiveness. Sara was the only female in the group and while she seemed to be the solid sort, there was a certain...indifference from her about becoming a ranger. Was she just not the type to show her emotions or did she not want to be a ranger? It had to be just an emotions thing; no one would choose the dangerous lifestyle of a Ranger and have no interest. Brantley and Arturo both seemed solid enough if shy, but John had to wonder if this team was going to survive. How could it with such a strange group? At the very least he would have to be ready for when disaster struck.

"Well I'm going to go ahead to the West Gate and scout out the terrain from there. We'll head out once everyone is there." Said John, addressing the group. He had never been to the West gate before having lived in the Eastern suburbs, but maybe he could gleam something from the route before everyone else got there. He needed to be prepared for the worst.

Brantley gazed at all of his new team mates in awe. Sara is the girl, John is the one who looks like he don't trust anyone, Mervin is the one that barely passed the mark of being a legal midget, Scott is the giant, and Arturo, well Arturo and I are going to be friends after this meeting. "Well I'm going to go ahead to the West Gate and scout out the terrain from there. We'll head out once everyone is there," said John. He looks as if a tornado is going to wipe us out. What's his problem? The group sat there in an awkward silence. Brantley wanted to say something, but he didn't know what to say. I know, I'll take Zippo out and talk to John. Maybe we can work out some plan to get us in there, and come out. I'm sure we can figure something out. With that thought he got up and walked out.

"I'm going to go see what John is planning. We will be waiting for you all to come. I hope by then we will have a plan to get us in and out of that forest alive." Brantley said leaving the room to head to the west wing. He released Zippo so he could get some exercise and stretch his muscles in case of a battle in the woods. He got his pokémon book out and started to read it. He looked up all of his group's pokémon to see what moves they have so if they needed any help in a battle.

"If we run into something then we are going to be the ones to stay back and fight. Right Zippo?" Brantley said talking to his pokémon.

"Houndour," Zippo said shaking his head.

The two walked to the west wing to see John sitting down with a worried look on his face. Brantley sat down beside him trying to comfort him when Brantley said "Everything will be fine. We have pokémon. I know people have died, but I'm certain that we will come out alive. Besides, Professor Acacia wouldn't have given this mission to us if he didn't trust in us. You have to trust in yourself and in your pokémon, and if you do then you will survive anything that comes after you. Now let's make a plan so we have something to go by instead of wondering around in a forest that we barely know."

Mervin assessed his new team silently. He considered talking to Sara, as she seemed quiet and nervous. Something about Brantley didn't sit well with him, he'd keep his eye on that one. John and Arturo didn't seem too bad, but time would tell. Scott seemed like-minded, but ran off after John before Mervin could say anything.

Mervin shrugs, and pulls out his guide book. "Since we need to know what's edible, we should start with the berries they gave us!" Archie skims through the guide, briefly pausing to check the various plants, before stopping to read about the pink berry.

"Interesting... what else is there?..." Mervin leans against a wall, reading the guidebook. He'll follow the others when they head out.

Sara all but forze when she heard that she was be in a group of people on her very first day. The woman had hoped that maybe the rangers would have them read or study a bit before actually kicking them out onto the field. At the very least that she would be able to do a very easy individual mission before actually having to go out with a group. But it seemed that, along with everything else in her life, nothing went with what she wanted.

So, Sara took this time to look at her group mates. She was somewhat dismayed that she was the only female in the group and made a mental note to train Renyard to be a kind of guard dog in the night. The boy named John seemed to be a very serious person who would do what he could to get what he wanted. He seemed really egar to get going with the mission and was the first to leave the building. The boy named Brantly left right after John, announcing that he wanted to get work out the mission with him. Mervin left soon after reading about the pink berry in the guide book and Arturo followed after him. The girl soon heard Mervin shout something and Arturo mutter an apology.

Soon, Sara was the only one left in the building. She picked up her new equipment, putting on her boots while pocketing the ball, potions and I.D card. When it came to the berry book and the berry itself, Sara put the book in a bag but didn't look at it. She already knew what the berry was, a Pecha berry. Sweet and good for poison.

"Guess being raised by a berry grower has actually helped," Sara muttered to herself before pocketing the berry as well and joining her other group members at the West Gate.

When she saw John and Brantly, Mervin and Arturo paired up, the girl just went over to the gate itself, leaned her back against it before sliding down to sit. Renyard, who had been following Sara this whole time, sat beside his trainer and leaned against her, nuzzeling her slightly. Sara smiled slightly and pet Renyard as she looked to the her other group members.
