The sides in the battle- always on the right side

Did you notice that the main friends are always on the right side in battles, instead of left?

shouldn't the friends and Ash be on the left side, since it's the more important side? and in gyms, too?

Interesting observation, but what makes you say the left is the more important side? Neither of them seem particularly important to me.

Because in Japanese and English people are usually looking at the left side, and only then at the right side. Thats why it's so strange, that this suits people who read from right to left, and not left to right.

From where I come from, the right is usually used as good indication. Such as using your right hands to shake, eat, idk you name it. Vice versa for the left, but not always. That's how I explain it :P

In manga and anime, the main focus is on the beginning of the "page" (ie the right side), since you instinctively look at the beginning of the page first.

But honestly, it's just how they made manga to look like, so I doubt that they'll change it. And tbh it doesn't really matter :/

Yes but the regular language is left to right, so this is the more important side.


I also noticed that in Yugioh for exaple, it's the same with the main heroes.

And it's because manga and anime were developed in Japan, so that's why they are right to left. The old masters who created the art of manga and anime in the 1950's didn't particularly care whether or not most or the world read from left to right. They most likely didn't know either. They were focused on making a perfect art form based on what they knew, and this is what they came up with. The traditions have stuck, and this is why they portray the hero on the right nowadays.

I don't understand you. The most important thing is manga and not anime? Because in Pokemon, the manga isn't important at all.

And why are you saying the old masters from 1950 didn't know the left-to-right wirting system? This is their language, so how is it possible actually? the Tategaki writing is less important than the regular left-to-right writing system. So the heroes should've been on the left side.

No, I'm not saying this was important. My point is, to the old masters who created the art of manga and anime, they didn't know about how Japanese could be written left to right. And in fact, they still do that in Manga and Anime. In Japan, tradition is a very big thing, so these quirks have stuck. There is no reason why they should have chosen the left side; it works for them, so that's how it is.

It may or may not be ignorant to do that, but that's how it is, and how it will always be. In a culture where tradition is a large influence on life, you will be hard-pressed to force them to do otherwise.
