Though I haven't seen any of Ghibli's movies after playing Ni No Kuni I can say that the animation is brilliant.

Watch Only Yesterday, it's brilliant.

But then again I really liked Ocean Waves so what do I know.

Love almost all of them; Earthsea, Ponyo, Pom Poko and Yamadas are the only ones you can afford to miss.

To me, From Up on Poppy Hill was everything that I wanted Ocean Waves to be, in that it was completely un-fantastical but still really emotionally resonant. And I didn't hate it... but I was bored for large parts. It certainly didn't help things that it was a TV movie, as well. Maybe I should give it another chance...
