The Super Smash Brothers Thread

This thread's dead, so here's something to discuss...
After a full spring and summer of competition, the SBR felt as though it was time to take the first stab at a tier list for Brawl. Before I post it, let me remind you all of a few important things:

1. Tier placement doesn't necessarily reflect your ability to beat your friends with a specific character. You might beat your friend's Metaknight with Sonic, but that doesn't mean Sonic is top tier. It means you win that matchup against your friend. Tiers are not absolute measurements of match outcomes.
2. Instead of measuring match outcomes, tiers are more a measurement of potential of characters against the rest of the cast in a competitive, 1v1 tournament environment. It shows general strength of a character's abilities in a specific tournament environment. So yes, maybe Yoshi is a beast in teams or Ganon is REALLY good with items turned on... but this list measures somethingd different than those things.
3. This list is based on a combination of tournament result data, extensive discussions with top players and tournament hosts and looking at general trends in play in the current competitive metagame. It took a lot of work on the part of some of the best minds in Smash to compile this list.
4. This list might change with time. It is based on how we perceive the game to be and play it competitively NOW. However, if a replacement for l-canceling is discovered or new tactics cause the game to evolve over time, this list could change. So if you main a character that isn't near the top, keep playing and evolving their game. You might be the one, like Chu Dat's Ice Climbers back in Melee, that cause people's opinions to change.
5. That said, don't give up hope! Just because your character isn't ranked at or near the top, doesn't mean you can't do fantastic things with them with enough talent and effort. We do not publish this list to encourage players to change their main tournament character. If anything, it should serve as a challenge to take the game to the next level.
6. In Smash, any character can win in any matchup if you are smarter and better than your opponents by a wide enough margin. So keep playing to win and work hard to be the best player you can be, regardless of which character you use.

And without further ado, I present to you the official SBR Brawl Tier List (v1.0):

How Are Ness and Lucas on the bottom of the tier list? O.o

Bottom...?

They're at the top of the low tier last time I looked.

Oh I see. What I meant is why are they on the low tier in general.

The reason is that the tier list is released by tourney results and this tier was released way too early. I mean, Mario really should be in Middle Tier, not Low. And we all know tourney results aren't a very good way of judging tiers.

Oh I see. What I meant is why are they on the low tier in general.
1) Poor tourney rankings
2) For Lucas, his grab is too laggy, and while his usmash and dsmash are both very potent, they're very laggy and easy to punish.

Yes! I finally got a new copy of Brawl!
My last copy broke and so did my Wii, so I'm starting all over again but I'm glad I have it again!

I'm sure it's already been discussed somewhere in the topic, but how do most of you feel about edge guarding?

If you're up against an opponent who's too fast/defensive/powerful(when you've got a lot of damage), I think edge guarding could be a "last resort" strategy.

However, I myself almost never do it unless I need to save my own life, nor am I bothered by edgers due to the fact that most of my characters float/fly over the edge anyway. XD

Another topic to bring up is the Kirby suicide method. Suck them up and drop off; my friend does this often enough when he's Kirby until me and others are at his throat with a nunchuck. :P

um... why not? I don't fight for honor in Brawl, I fight TO WIN. And to disuse Kirby's great edgeguarding game/Kirbyciding wastes a lot of his potential.

Hahah, that's what I think. Kirby is way more fun roll-dodging and hammering the hell out of unsuspecting slowpoke-players.
...
If you don't think meteor smash killing the opponent with dair/Final Cutter when they're around 20% isn't fun, I really don't know what to say =/

I'm not as experienced with Kirby as I am the rest of my list.

Peach's love-bump attack is fun to use, although it gets 'gay' comments from who I battle. XD But I get to give a giant OWNED if I end up frying panning them into oblivion.

Pikachu's thunder ftw. I get abusive comments (and punches) all the time from it, but it just owns in combo with D-smash. Yep, very predictable, but with D-smash being an unavoidable move (lasts longer than a roll and has such a large hitbox) and pikachu being so low when he uses it (no getting hit by projectiles!) there's little chance of the strategy being stopped, unless you're dumb. Just D-smash, F-smash and aerial them until their damaged, knock em high up and thunderspam! yay! so many 3-1's using that strategy.

edit*: oh, and it works as a great edgeguard, it's possible to triple thunder off the edge and still QA back to the stage.

MY Top 10 (in order of how good I am with them):
1. Lucario
2. Luigi
3. Meta Knight
4. Kirby
5. Toon Link
6. Link
7. Pikachu
8. Pit
9. Sonic
10. Wario

u can check my Brawler card for more details.

i tend not to use Kirby's stone move as a guard much, since you can be grabbed out of it. it's more fun to crush ppl with it. :D

what's ur fastest Target Smash times? for me it's:

Level 1: 12 sec (Sonic)
Level 2: 24 sec (Sonic)
Level 3: 18 sec (Pikachu)
Level 4: 27 sec (Sonic)
Level 5: 28 sec (Sonic)

and, not to sound n00bish, but what's edgeguarding?

I prefer the GMC Controller so any moves I mention will be described with that format.

My top 5 (Order I'm Best with)

1. Pit*
2. Kirby**
3. Meta Knight
4. PKMN Trainer
5. Capt. Falcon

*With Pit, I just keep pressing B while holding left or right and it just keeps going and going.

**I suck up my foes, then jump off of the side, spit them out at the last minute, and then I safely fly back up to the stage again. Evil lol

When I first got the game I was so desperate to get Mewtwo, even if it involved haxxors that I got Rick Rolled on "Youtube."

On yoshi's island I've managed to suck at spit them out of the screen so they die. I also found Kirby's "turn to stone" as an excellent guard. Someone used Lucas and didn't do a thing to me. Not to mention Pit's angels
Just to tell you, using stone is pretty much asking for the opponent to start a chaingrab/grab combo on you.
