There are so many things wrong with the post. Brock has been a main hero since when?Also, keep the "Bring back Misty!" sayings in her club. :P We know Haruka was more of a main then both of them.

Anyway, I support the females switching each generation. It keeps then fresh and room for more character development.

There was a switch in male characters in the second season too, and yes it is an opportunity for more character development.

Then why don't they actually try to switch Ash for a change? Heck, maybe utterly replace him as well, and make him reduced to an appearance per three years (Hey, if they could do that with Red in Pokemon Special without any problems, they can with him as well.). Heck, try replacing every main character.

As for the whole May being more of a main than Misty and Brock, I personally disagree. I mean, she's also as much of a Main as Misty and Brock (heck, if you really think about it, Ash is just as much a Main as Misty and Brock are as well, which means that he too is expendable. Heck, the Narrator and others referred to Ash and ALL of his friends as "Our Heroes" since Season 1, and Misty and Brock are also included in the main protagonists/co-stars category on Bulbapedia. If they really felt that they weren't that, they should have placed them in the Side characters/sidekicks section, and the Narrator would have referred to the main cast as "Our hero and his sidekicks."

And, look I know that BMB comment was directed towards Angela, but if it was also directed at me, I barely even insinuated that Misty should come back (not that I don't want to state that belief, but still...), I mean, the closest was when I was mentioning the amounts of episodes that focused on her, Brock, and TR, which even then, I was only stating that the first season wasn't even close to being "completely devoted to Ash" as someone on this thread claimed.
 
When I first saw this thread, I kinda thought because it focuses too much on guys.

I'm pretty sure it's not sexist, and as Ash is the main character, I pretty doubt that they will replace him anytime soon. Have you ever seen any anime (That isn't a spin-off or a sequel for that matter) which replaces the guys on the anime?

Switching Male Characters to Brendan or Lucas might be possible, but I'm pretty sure they wont switch Brock for it. Tracey replaced Brock because he's a Pokemon Watcher (They also included Max just because he's a Pokemon Nerd), and I'm pretty sure you expect Lucas and Brendan to be like Ash and battle for badges but if that's the case then it would be too boring (would you want to watch the same fight twice knowing that they would both win?)

Also, ever noticed that May and Dawn are Pokemon Coordinators, Misty is a trainer, but she just travels around Ash. They need to make the characters different every time, maybe that's the reason why they decided to replaced May with Misty?

Hmm, let's see, while this technically isn't an Anime, Pokemon Special replaces its main cast all the time. Besides, the mere fact that they even focused on Brock and Misty a lot, and how Ash actually gets comparatively less focus even in season 1 (Go West, Young Meowth barely even focused on him.)

So... Replacing Ash for another male trainer to do the same gym-badge collecting goal is bad, and yet replacing May with Dawn to do the same exact goal isn't? That doesn't make any sense! If it's bad for Ash to be replaced by another male trainer just to do the exact same goal, then replacing May with another female character just to rehash Pokemon Contests is going to be bad as well.
 
I believe I wouldn't want to watch two Gym battles in a row. Brock provides support to Ash and I believe no one else can do that. Comparing it to other anime, I believe if you take out the feminine role in that, you lose all the shippings, fanservice, and romance you wish the main characters had with each other. It's hard to have a one-gender cast and need that equal female to male ratio there. Or else, there goes the ratings.

1. It'll be a total marketing disaster. You know it. I know it. The fandom knows it.
2. Using PokeSpecial as a comparison is pointless. It's not as mainstream as the show and doesn't make as much money.
 
I would like to see a new male lead other than ash personally. I dont think ash will ever leave i hate him lol, he is stupid and basically doesnt get better each season during the season he does but the next season hes bad again i think they should ditch ash and get a new group every time

Ok, maybe that was a bad example, how about this one. The games are FAR more mainstream than the Anime, the characters change every single non-remake game, and the games STILL sell well, despite that. Heck, the Metal Gear series are continuing to sell well, and has plans of continuing, even though Solid Snake, the so-called Face of Metal Gear, has recently been replaced as of "Guns of the Patriots". Same goes with the RE series (where the characters are virtually different by almost every game.). Besides, even IF Pokemon Special didn't make as much money as the Anime, the mere fact that it even continues to exist and actually gain sales despite its habit of replacing characters is enough to prove that the Anime can do this as well.
 
A game? You mean those sprites that don't talk and seem to have no personality? Also, the popularity of PokeSpecial comes into play.

FYI, Solid Snake is Old Snake in the game.

PokeSpecial has been used by a lot of fans as a reason to remove Ash, A lot, enough to be quite a significant number. Besides, maybe the player character doesn't exactly have a personality, but the other characters (and if you want to get technical, the opposite gender rivals in Gens III and IV) definitely have lines and a personality.

Also, yes, I know Solid Snake is Old Snake in Guns of the Patriots (I research things on the net, remember?), However, I also read that Solid Snake (be it Old Snake, Iriquois Pliskin, or Mel Gibson [play the MSX version of Metal Gear 2 for the reference]) will not be appearing in any more canonical Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid games, and that Guns of the Patriots is Solid Snake's last game. In fact, it's also implied in this same interview that the creator of the franchise, Hideo Kojima that, while it's the last game in the series that he's directly involved, the series is still continuing, though he is unsure whether to make a new series involving an all new cast or existing characters.
 
Then your saying that Snake hasn't been replaced yet. So we don't know yet.

How many of these fans think about the number of fans that like Ash, which is also significant? The money the franchise makes from the promotion of the two?
 
Wow, I can't believe converstation is going on.

Here's the low down. The TV show isn't sexist, they simply want to cycle through the generations. They also want to try and keep the 2 boys 1 girl combo. (accept max who didn't really matter because he was a little kid) They always want to keep Brock because not only is he the wise and expereinced council of the group, but he's the "mother"... and he is always a fail safe for comedy. They can't switch out Ash because in Japan they really focus on the "cute aspect" of the show and since Pikachu travels with Ash they can't get rid of that. Also because, for some reason, Ash likes tiny weak and spineless Poke'mon. If they decided to follow another male character they would either lose viewers because the Poke'mon aren't so weak and spineless anymore or they would make him a weak and spineless Poke'mon trainer and the viewers would think that the writers are un-original.
 
Think about this: they probably can't fit all the characters into each and every show that they do. They could have took out Paul (since he came completely out of the blue) and put in another rival, a better one like they have in the games. The TV show is not completely sexist, or at least I think it isn't.
 
Paul is awesome. What are you talking about? Some of the fandom might not like him but most like what he brings to the show.
 
Not using new game male characters isn't completely sexist (though, constant use of the female protagonists and their character design gives me a little pause), it's laziness for the writers to use game canon. So, don't confuse the issue.

You also have to factor two issues: it's the Japanese, and they haven't had the best track record with acknowledging women's rights. Secondly, they proved they can do a show with another character in charge with the first D/P episode, with a female one, to boot. Imagine what would have happened if Ash wasn't around.

So, they are improving, I think. Slowly, yes.

As for the Special stuff, I actually thought Red was likeable/astute and was superior to Ash/Satoshi, myself.
