Perhaps something similar to Houndoom's flame (a burn that will never heal), or possibly bad luck. Or guilt, maybe? Pulling a tail from such a graceful creature would make anyone feel guilty.

If I owned a ninetales I'd name it...ummm...well...what would I name it? Kitsune maybe?
I would keep it with me, especially when I sleep...I'd imagine it would be warm.^//^

Having a real Ninetales would be a dream come true. I'd just hug it all the time <3 (okay, maybe I wouldn't hug it if it was one of those that absolutely hates hugging, I wouldn't exactly want to irritate a Ninetales O_O)
