This seems like a plausible idea. Basically, I think Red had his quest before Red did. Why? Red has actually been referenced once in an episode where Red was on a cartoon (which was similar to the manga), which would have to mean that the universes are linked, and that Red's adventures were before Ash's. But it could be possible that Ash may be related to Red, or Red might be the father - but why? Their moms are different/have different appearances, and they both lived in Pallet Town. That's my theory.

It was. He fought, Brock, the Sensational Sisters, Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga, Sabrina's father (while she was having one of her episodes), Blaine, and a random Gym Leader (not Giovanni, since he (and Mewtwo) remained undefeated). But for some reason, he either declined in challenging the Elite Four, or skipped the entire Indigo Conference. After catching all the base stage 150 Pokemon (excluding the three birds, Mewtwo, and Mew, since they "throw off the balance of nature if obtained" for some reason), and evolving them to their final stages (76 pokemon in total of gen I, plus his own Pikachu), he got bored because he was so powerful and either roams around Kanto like a vagabond or resides by the waterfall at Tohjo Falls, waiting for a strong opponent to give him a challenge. That's my theory.

I consider Ash to be the anime's embodiment of Red, therefore Red didn't exist before, during, or after Ash. We saw Red in Origins but that was a whole different universe and it's impossible to tell when it took place. It's possible that Red coexists with Ash but I find it unlikely at this point because of how differently the anime was portrayed in Origins. If Red did/will exist, I agree that his adventure occurred before Ash's.

I also think Red and Ash are the same. The manga and show were both based of the games and the anime came first by a few months. The show was for kids and the manga for older kids. Also, in pokemon Origins everything is totally different. He defeats Giovanni and and Ash never does, in fact Giovanni still hasn't been defeated. Not to mention Ash came face to face with Giovanni for the first time in Unova, not includeing the special. Also Giovanni a nearly as 'evil' as he is in the anime.

I think it might actually be the other way around, because Ash only had access to regular Pokeballs, and red had all kinds like ultra, master, great, etc. And when Ash fought gym leaders, they had unevolved versions of the Pokemon that they had in Red's era, like Sabrina's Kadabra in Ash's time and it's Alakazam in Red's time, and Erika's Gloom and Weepinbell both evolved. The Cinnabar Gym is destroyed then relocated just like in the anime, and, speaking of gyms, due to Ash not defeating Giovanni, the Earth Gym was still around, so Red had to fight him, and due to Ash not defeating him, Team Rocket was still very active in Kanto. They look almost the same too. Blaine is still a bald dude with glasses, and Giovanni is a businessman in a suit, Lt. Surge, a tall man in military clothing. Also: think about the Pokemon Center. In Red's time, it takes mere seconds to heal a Pokemon instead of waiting for hours on end for your freaking Pikachu to get some rest. Also, Gary looks shockingly similar (at least in Season 1) to Blue Oak, carries the same last name, and both had a grandfather in the Pokemon business. It's very possible that the Professor Oak we know and love in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow is actually Gary.
    GARY MOTHER****ING OAK.

Even though you bring up fair points, I find it hard to compare one type of anime that differs from the games to a type that symbolizes the games. It does seem likely that Red's journey happened after Ash's according to your argument, but it's impossible to know whether both characters exist in the same universe or not.

However, this thread died a few months ago, which means that nobody posted in it for over a month. I'm going to close this, but you are encouraged to create a new thread about your theory.
