Back then I always questioned the designs of gen 4 pokemon, and even more now. Mostly the new evolutions of old pokemon but just look:
Rhyperior - Someone took a Rhydon and pulled it inside out
Electivire - Glad to see Electbuzz got a bowl cut and became the electrical Reddit mascot
Lumineon - So many people complain that pokemon should only be based on real animals. I think this poor thing got a little too boring and bland from being designed as realistically as possible
Purugly - I was hoping for a very beautiful cat, but then again we already had Delcatty, and the majestic looking Persain
Carnivine - They couldn't make a fly trap any more scarier?
But there are some very cool designs as well that really changed the mainly earthy feel and organic pokemon in this generation and really made what we still have today as really colorful pokemon:
Luxray - Shadow the Hedgehog the electric cat
Giratina - I feel like he really made out how dragons really should be
Yanmega - Sheer epic and bad ass looking bug pokemon right there
Regigigas - The many colossal pokemon, but not all one or two plain earthy colors (just look at that shiny variant too)
Gen 4, design wise, was some really unique greatness that I think pokemon should be like they are now.
(sorry for terrible English, it's 4 AM and I should be sleeping right now :P )
