Yeah, Japan had to change it because of copyright. Even on the Japanese DVDs it's changed. There's an explanation here:

That's rather drastic change.. I have to admit, I was expecting something minor, like someone noticing that his eye color was different, or something. xD; But wow. I haven't seen that episode in either language, so I didn't have a clue what to expect. Too bad the they had to change it so much.

I didn't notice. (I didn't see the Japanese one.) I can't believe how similar those two characters looked. I like the new look better than the old one, though.

Even though I barely watch the Japanese version, I'm happy that they made the change because now he looks better than before, his original hair looked so weird
