Suggestion: Thread of the year

I think that there should be a thread of the year contest to like highlight the best threads of the year. If its possible than I think we should have one.

Like I said in my VM, it'd have to voted positive by the staff, though honestly.. in my opinion there's just too many areas. That's an awful lot of narrowing down, and leaving areas out would seem biased, and I think the whole thing might turn a bit chaotic. On a smaller forum I can see it possibly working, but this place is huge. I've also never heard of people really caring whether or not their threads won awards. >o>

I'm.. not shooting the idea down completely, I just think think it would be semi-organized chaos. xD;

I mean like rewards for most viewed or most replied or maybe just of the week or something like that.

There are too many forums and too many threads in said forums made in a year to even keep count. That is just too much to sift through to even find a top 25, let alone a number 1. There's a Poll of the Week in OVP. I think that's good enough. Not every section needs thread of the week type deal.

What is even the point? Why do we need that in every section, or even forum wide? Sounds like it's too much work.

I think if this does happen it should be sectional like they do with Hack of the Year. I personally don't care too much for it, since I don't feel like digging through threads seeing which ones I thought were great. So a lot of the votes may be for recency. If it was community wide like it is for Member categories then people would probably only or generally vote for the sections they attend so it would be more prudent to keep them to sections and if it garners a enough votes in the sections alone then maybe next year it could be expanded upon...
