Tides of Magic

It was one of those days when nothing had gone right. I had a bad dream the previous night about falling in something like a black hole, which never seemed to end. In the morning, I had found that the roof of my small cabin was leaking and when I had gone to get some timber, I had hit myself by mistake with an Axe and now my arm was bleeding profusely.

My magic was currently low and I knew my time would only be wasted if I tried to heal myself. I moved out of the small forest where I lived into the open grounds where many of my kind were common. I hoped I could spot someone to heal me immediately as the pain was getting worse. As I moved forward, I noticed several unicorns dashing across the fields in broad daylight. I moved closer to find ?Glero?, a young male, which I had saved some days ago from death. Glero had fallen into a pit dug by hunters and was starving without food for a week until I had rescued it, healed it fully and let it go back to it?s herd. Today, I hoped Glero would not forget my help and would do something in return.

I tossed down some hard brandy upon returning to my rooms. Then, I lapsed into sleep. Didn't even bother to pull my boots off. I was asleep within moments. Then, the dream started again. Painfully slow, at first. Like I was moving through molasses. I descended the stairs. They looked to be made of stone, but every step had the clang of metal. Further and further down they went. It was freezing, I could see my breath frosting in front of me. There, a door ahead of me. I didn't want to open it, but my hand moved despite my efforts to stop it. Tall man, standing beyond it. Voice like rotten leather crumbling. Dragged me away. Too strong, couldn't resist. There, pit of fire. Forced me down, took my blood. Speeded up, now. Moving too fast. Therw my blood into the pit of fire. I screamed as it hit the flames My mind was on fire, too. Then, mercifully, it ended. I woke suddenly, terrified. It hadn't gone any further, thankfully.

After a while, I woke up and walked around. there wasen't anyone, as I'd expected. Tired of wandering around in the forest, I walked towards the city, where the high mages lived. None of them welcomed those of my kind, but that dosen't matter. It's at least, something to do for a day or two. I soon found myself at one of the gates...
