Here Atomic Reactor shows how to make a character and import it into the game, also showing how to set transparence. You can jump to 10:00 where he actually import the image and then set a transparence.
He have a bunch of videos showing alot of things to do in essentials, check it out!
Just be sure to place the sprite in the appropriate folder.
