Does anyone else get the feeling that we will only be able to trade 3rd gen pokemon to 3rd gen games from D/P? Like how they did in Crystal? That would be sad...

D/P can trade with any of the third generation games.

Yes I know, but just because it can trade doesn't mean that they'll be able to trade 4th gen to 3rd gen games.

Of course we only will be able to trade old pokemon back to the old games. A pokemon has to be programed into a game for you to be able to have it on the game. Old pokemon are programed on the new games, but new pokemon arn't program on to the old games. Its not like they chose not to lets us put new pokemon on the old games its just physically impossible. Its not sad its life.

Probably will. I mean, as Seda said, you'll only be able to trade 3rd gen pokemon because they'll be the only ones programmed into the games. Makes sense.

I look forward to putting my hard-worked teams from RSE/FRLG/C/XD on DP, and I hope this is still possible when the sequals to DP come out.

Eh, I think it MAY be possible. The same way that sliding the cards allowed for berries that weren't in the game to appear. It just has to be coded appropriately and I'm sure there would have to be limitations.

However, Diamond and Pearl will be able to be upgraded just fine as they are supposed to be using the Wii's Connect24 system to get updates, which I assume will probably contain a few bug fixes as well as the possibility of little mission add-ons and such. I'd doubt we'd ever get updated with new Pokemon from the next generation to D/P but I'm sure if D/P was to be the last game then they may just throw some more on later.

Of corse a berry is different from a pokemon. A pokemon with stats, levels, and other things.

I was just about to say the same thing. And I think it would be possible to add all 4th gen Pokémon in the advanced generation games (if Gamefreak will bother going through all that agonizing coding, which I doubt they will.), considering over half of the games are blank. If you don't believe me, just check out a Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Firered or Leafgreen ROM with a hex editor.

I don't see that happening, though. But we can always dream, can't we?

Pfft... they are all just coding in the system. Of course Pokémon take more space than berries, but I believe updating the game cart with a berry and a Pokémon is practicaly the same.

The new games can extend to large amounts, so all pokemon will be tradeable to all gba games and ds games.

I wouldnt count on seeing a Bonsly on ruby and sapphire if that is what your asking.

There are a few things hidden into the code of RSE, such as the trait Cacophony (works the same as Soundproof), which suggests either they added extra things but never used them, or allowed for some forward capability. However, I doubt there was enough room.

So yeah, in answer to your question, it's gonna work pretty much the same as the Time Machine in GSC, where you could send your old Pokemon forward to D/P, but not the new Pokemon or moves back to RSE. It's the only way they can do it while allowing nearly complete compatibility. Plus it might add a few moveset ideas for the Advance gen series.

it probably will, just like on collosuem, you can update your team to battle as the ones from fire red/leaf green, with the person from fr/lg,but colloseum came out before those...so it is possible
