Hi guys. I just started playing pokemon like less than a month ago (Now don't look at me like that, I'm not that old, probably you started at my age XD ok?) And I am trying my hardest to learn and get good at the game and I even beat the elite four and was all proud (until I noticed it's not even that hard) but I still don't get natures, STAB moves and so and so and so I just don't understand.

I even tried to get the whole what is weak to what down but I'm not sure I'll ever remember everything. I suppose this all takes time but I don't want to be a noob forever. I never one or got real close to winning a link battle. And advice?

Oh and this is my team

Delphox (Fire blast, flamethrower, Sunny Day, Psychic) Bold nature
Meowstic ( Shadow Ball, Pyschic, Future Sight, Thunderbolt)
Blastoise (Hydro Pump, Rapid Spin, Strength-that-I-can't-friggin-forget, aqua tail
Talonflame ( Brave Bird, Acrobatics, Fly, Roost)
Gogoat (Leaf blade, Synthesis, Earthquake, Grass Knot)
Lapras (Thunderbolt, Ice beam, Hidden Power, Perish Song- which I will replace)

    I tried to cover everything

Natures means that whatever stat is colored (Red or Blue) Red means 10% boost while Blue is 10% decrease over leveling. You can't change it, and its set at bred/capture.

STAB stands for Same Type Advantage Boost, which means if you use an attack move that is the same as the type of the pokemon, you shall receive a boosted percentage of power with that move.

IVs stand for Individual Values when a pokemon is bred or caught they have a specific values that will either make or break them, you can check them by going to one of the guys in the pokecenter in kiloude city.

    Yeah :,D

balance your team with more diverse type, don't pick pokemon for your battle team just cuz they look cool, look up stats. just keep playing, the more you play the more you learn

Everybody starts out this way unless you already have an immense background with the game from other ways of exposure! Like Phangy said, just keep playing the game, buy the older games and play those as well and eventually you will get the hang of everything, because it kind of becomes a second nature for you after awhile. Glad to see somebody become involved with the games! (:

natures can be found here, you usually breed for them, but that's a very big long thing that takes hours upon hours to get down and do

you don't really need to play the older games, and they can be pretty hard to buy if you don't have them already. X and Y are actually really good starter games for those who've never played before.

PS: as soon as a moderator see this thread, it's going to be moved to the Q&A thread, so it's always good to look through there, you'll find some cool things you may have never ever thought of

It seems that your team's structure is flawed, and if you have intentions of seeing the competitive world - you have a lot to learn. To start, I actually wrote a guide in Gen 5 about balanced teambuilding for beginners - which can be found here. While it may be a generation back from now, the same principles still apply to really any team structuring. I recommend you give it a read when you get the chance.

Some notes I can give on the spot is that:
    • Your movepools have little to no coverage. You don't need 3 offensive Flying moves on Talonflame; it's highly impractical. A good rule to follow in MOST CASES is to not have more than one type of an offensive move. So, having Flamethrower and Fire Blast is a bad idea on Delphox.
    • Meowstic. Meowstic is rather ineffective as a special sweeper - and functions better as a dual screener.
    • Many of the pokemon on your team just don't go well together.
    • Move Selection There are a few instances where just bad moves are selected. In a lot of cases, Future Sight is just bad.

If your team is purely for in-game, you don't really have much to worry about. But if you want to reach out into the competitive field, you should be prepared. PM me if you have any questions or need any help. I love helping "n00bs" learn the wonders of competitive battling.

To add to what Tide said, you need to post the team's EVs, items and abilities as well. They're very important in competitive play.
