Well, as I promised, I am reporting the tourny results for the 5 Civ Regional Tournament our store just had. We had ten participants from all over the state, some were store regulars, some were people I never seen before. And as luck would have, I won. :D
Ironically enough, I faced Mullet in the First Round. My monster destruction and hand control annoyed him but in the end I couldn't get rid of his blockers fast enough to stop him before he could summon his Crystal Lancers. They were very close games, and the last tie breaker game came down to a destiny draw on his part, when he drew the only Crystal Lancer left in his deck to stop me from beating him and win the game. IN short, I lost the first round. ><
My second round opponent I don't recall the name of, but I do recall he ran a fairly slow fire/ light deck.the first game I whiped teh floor with him, getting the Shadow moons out early as well as Jack Viper and stopped him cold. The second game it tok me a while to over come his defense, only to find teh great misfortune of hitting his ONLY holy awe as a sheild, therfore disarming me and allowing him to win that second game. The final game, I held onto my Terror Pits and destroyed his fast monsters with them and my photocide.allowing me to win my second round.
The third round I was up against a one Sean Peacock, using another Fire LIght deck. His focuse more on human speed with light for backup, and so I had to take extra precautions against any human he summoned. still, my deck proved to be a nuissance to him, his bane being my Death Smoke. Sometimes I woudl even hold back just so he would summon something good so I could terror pit it. My Photocide also proved to be a major drawback to his stategy. It turned out to be a card he couldn't opvercome. :D I sweeped him with two consecutive game wins to win Match three.
After that, the four finalists were me, Sean Peacock, Mullet, and this newcomer to our Store named Doug. Mullet faced off against Doug and I faced off against Sean Pecock a second time. It was generally the same as before, so there is no point in explaining it.
I had anticipated Mullet to be my opponent in the Finals, as Doug's deck had little to no doubles in it and slow at the start. By the time I was finished with my match, THey were in the thrid round with a score of 1 to 1. Then the unthinkable happened: Doug pulled his only Crystal Lancer and Mullet didn't get good enough cards in time to counter. He lost the semifinals.
This was rather shocking to me. I must admit I was concerned as to how I would do if Mullet was in the finals since he beat me in the first round, and I was inceredibly scared going into the Finals against Doug. By fortune seemed to smile upon me. He didn't pull any crystal Lancer on me, and his blockers were few and far between. It was as if after he beat Mullet, his luck just died. I sweeped Doug in 2 consecutive wins to win the match and therefore the tournament.
The prizes were awesome too. We all got a Duel Masters hat and a alternate Art Corile for entering. I'm wearing the hat right now as I type this. Mullet got 6 packs of Survivors for making 3rd place, and I got a box of 24 packs for winning as well as a championship plack. I should scan it somehow and show you guys. :D Through those packs, I now have the entire set of Survivors except the super rare darkness creature. (so if anyone has one of those for trade, see me. :D) all in all, for 10 bucks, we really made a haul!
I had intended to take notes on the duels, but it turned out I was too wrapped up in maintaining my focus to do so. Any comments on our Tournament results?
