3rd Gen Trade between Ruby and Emerald?

I am using a Gameboy SP and regular Gameboy Advance to trade between the two games with a Game Link Cable, and it just says "Please wait, press B to cancel" and nothing happens..

Why is this?

I'm not really sure, but the cable may be broken, or it's a GBC cable.

I think you need to beat the E4 in Emerald, so that's prolly your issue.
