    Troubled paths

    By MewMan

    PG-13

    Chapter one: Flashback begins
"Wow!" Erick said, as he read the letter. "Wow!"
Erick read the letter again, and again, and again. He was amazed at the news, and he quickly started to scribble down an acceptance letter. God, he would need to train! Erick thought about how far he had come since that first day he started.
Oh, do tell a voice in his head said. Erick found himself slipping into a flashback.
Better get comfy, this is going to be a LONG night… the voice said to anybody who cared to listen. Erick thought back to his very first day…

My eyes opened. I found myself staring into the eyes of my mom, my dad, my brother, and lots of other relations. I got up groggily, and rubbed my eyes. It took me a moment to register that my entire family doesn't normally crowd into my bedroom to see me awake. I stared at there smiling faces, and wandered what I could say.
"Hi everybody…what's going on?" I asked, and I saw everybody trying to restrain a laugh.
"Oh come on, you know!" Mom said, smiling at him. I searched my mind. I remembered that something good was going to start today, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was.
"You've lost me", I said in confusion.
"You start you're Pokemon journey today, stupid!" my brother said, slapping the back of my head.
"Oh yeah!" I said, and leaped out of bed.
"We've all come to wish you well!" His sixteen-year-old cousin, Lara, said.
Everybody then in turn came up to me, wished me well, and gave me something. By the end of it, I had two purple spray bottles, apparently called 'potions', eleven Pokeballs, and what seemed like millions of containers of Poke' food, and six hundred dollars of money! I thanked them all, and then they left, except for my younger brother and parents of course. I quickly got dressed into some jeans, a black t-shirt, and a denim jacket. I also grabbed my black hat that looked like a cowboy hat but smaller and black. My friends sometimes teased me about my appearance, but I know that it attracts girls, and it looks slick and cool too me, plus it makes people think I am tougher then I actually am – don't ask me why. I combed my red-streaked black hair. I tilted the hat over my eyes, and then ran out of the bedroom. I slid down the banister backwards, and jumped onto my feet. I caught my brother staring at me in awe. Even thought it hurt me, I remained looking cool. When my brother looked away I opened my mouth in a silent scream of pain. I walked into the kitchen, and I saw my mom and dad looking at me. A full English breakfast was waiting on the table for me. I sat down, and ate it quickly, as I was extremely hungry.
"I'll be seeing you three then" I said, and left. Then, I turned round, opened the door to my house again, and ran in, hugging my parents. They hugged me back. My mom was teary-eyed, and my dad looked upset as well.
"Goodbye son, be good won't you?" Mom said.
"Of course I will!" I said, releasing my grip on them.
"Make us proud son!" My father said, and I assured them that I would. My brother then tapped my shoulder. I turned around and I saw he had his fist out.
"Safe?" He said. I pushed my fist against his.
"Safe" I said, and hugged him. Then, I went to the door, and waved goodbye to them one last time, then made my way to the Pokemon reserve. It was like a lab, but bigger, with many people studying Pokemon there. Once a year, they let trainers have a Pokemon from the lab. I was excited, as I would get to meet Professor Duos, a world renowned Professor that has set up a branch of Poke-reserves all over the region of Revatican.

I walked on the gravely path, staring into the blue sky, and thinking about what my journey would be like. I passed by the Poke mart, before arriving at the huge reserve. I walked inside, and saw many scientists and Pokemon. A woman came up to me.
"Excuse me, but visiting hours open up at nine, and it's only eight thirty!"
"I'm a trainer, here to pick up a starter", Erick said, and the woman showed him a part of the reserve, that was for trainers. He walked inside, and saw four trainers. I would describe them, but they aren't really part of the tale, and it would only bore you. And anyway, it was at that moment I saw the man himself. Professor Duos was standing there! He had a white lab coat on, and he had spiked blue hair and a smiling face.
"Hello! You must be Erick!" Dr Duos said. Oh my god, I thought, he knows my name! My sweaty hand shook his outstretched hand.
"How do you know my name?" I asked, still staring at him.
"Oh, you're family told me about you. They told me that I'm you're hero! It's great too have fans!" He said. "Since you're such a fan, I sneaked a special device in for you!" He whispered, and handed me a Pokedex. Accept it wasn't just any Pokedex. I had heard of these, they were the latest invention – extremely upmarket stuff. It doubled as Poke gear and a Pokedex, and its Pokedex was absolutely crammed with the latest information, and since it had a satellite it could be updated frequently. These were only given to rich children, as they cost thousands of dollars.
"You got this for me?" I asked.
"Well, you're parents were prepared to pay the full price of $12,000, but I told them not to, and I said that since you were such a fan, I'd only ask for a contribution of $100. They were quite thrilled, and wala, you have the FreDex, my latest invention"
I stared at it in awe. It was a silver Pokedex, with the words 'FreDex' inscribed on it.
"Oh thank you!" I said, and I had to restrain myself from hugging the professor.
"Oh, it's quite alright. Now you better pick a Pokemon, and if I were you I wouldn't pick the Lar…" The professor was cut short though, as I had already wandered off to look at Pokemon. I stuffed the FreDex into his pocket, enjoying its metallic feel when I held it. I passed by a Rattata, a mouse Pokemon with a purple back. I dismissed it. I saw a Weedle, and dismissed that too. I saw a Snubble, and at first was attracted. A Snubble was quite a desirable starter. I kept that in mind, and then went too check the others. I saw a small pool, and it seemed that a Teddiursa had fell in it, since it was struggling to get out. I lifted the wet Pokemon out, and put it on the floor. It quickly ran away, as it must have been shy. I saw a Slugma, and I kneeled down to get a closer look at it. Then, it disappeared in a blur. I wandered where it had gone, then suddenly I felt something breathing on my neck. I turned around, and saw that the Slugma was there! That was one quick snail! I got up, and then saw somebody on the windowsill, staring out the window.

"What's up little guy?" I asked, and approached it. Then I realised it was a rare Larvitar! I immediately walked over to it, and touched it. Its body was smooth. In one quick movement, it turned around, and clamped its jaws on my hand! I screamed in pain, attracting the attention of everybody in the centre. I waved my hand around, but the sharp jaws of the Larvitar still held tight. Everybody didn't know what to do, and I was still screaming like a lunatic. The Teddiursa that I had rescued earlier jumped too my rescue. He hopped on the radiator, then onto the windowsill, then onto the back of Larvitar. Teddiursa then slashed Larvitar ten or twelve times, and there were red scratches on Larvitar's back. Larvitar let go of me and turned to see the perpetrator, it's eyes flicking from side to side, and then it spotted Teddiursa. It leaped in the air, but was caught by Professor Duos. The Larvitar was about to bite his arm, when he seemed to pinch Larvitar's back. The Larvitar immediately fell asleep.

"He'll be sleeping for a couple of hours", Dr Duos said, and everybody in the room clapped. I then noticed a girl scoop up Teddiursa in her arms, and hugged her tightly. She walked over to Professor Duos, holding the Teddiursa. Then I realised that she was taking Teddiursa as a starter. My heart sunk, and I nearly cried. I had my heart set on that Teddiursa. Then I remembered the burning pain in my arm. I looked down. I gasped in horror. Blood was everywhere, and skin was hanging off me!

"Erick!" Dr Duos said, holding a bandage. He came over, and put a dressing all over the wound. I felt better after that.
"I'm so sorry – you won't sue will you?" Dr Duos asked.
"Of course not, it was mainly my fault anyway", I said.
"Well, I have a lot of work to do. I'll be seeing you!" Dr Duos said, before turning too leave. But, out of curiosity he turned round to see what Pokemon I would pick. There was the now sleeping Rattata, the Weedle, the hyper Slugma, and the Larvitar. I thought Rattata and Weedle were boring, and
A snail that moved quicker then me wasn't right. And the Larvitar was a definite 'no', for obvious reasons. But then, I noticed another. Something that was in the shadows - hiding away. I walked over, and a sad Ponyta emerged into the light. It was a white horse, with fire instead of a mane. Ponyta looked extremely upset.

"What's wrong with this Ponyta, Dr Duos?" Erick asked, and Dr Duos came forward.
"Well it has…" The professor seemed uncomfortable. "It has Kreaturkrankheit"
    "What's that?" I asked.
"Check the FreDex" Professor Duos said.
I got my Pokedex out, and opened it. I saw a large screen, with a dial.
"How do I work this thing?" I asked.
"It's voice activated" The professor explained. "On" he said, and the screen turned on.
" What would you like to do? " It asked, and it went through a list of options.
"Search" I said, and a screen came up.
"Kreaturkrankheit search" I said, and three results came out. One was Germany, that had 3000,0000 topics in that. There was also Kreaturkrankheit, with one result.
"Result one," I said, and up it came.
" Kreaturkrankheit was originally founded in Germany, by professor Raffiniert, now dead. It is an extremely rare condition that effects certain Pokemon differently. Effects are as follows:

Other Pokemon being extremely anti-social to them.
    Said Pokemon being shy.
Said Pokemon not being able to control his/her powers.
Said Pokemon unable to grip the concept of emotion of other Pokemon and humans.
    Said Pokemon having spastic fits.

Although this is an extremely rare condition, a cure is available, but it is only available by using an extremely rare fruit, thus the price is $ 100, 000, 000.

    SPECIAL NEWS UPDATE!
One week ago, the newly established Team ?bel is said too being injecting Pokemon with this rare condition, before releasing them back into the wild. Although Team ?bel has never been heard of before, they are considered especially dangerous. A great reward is offered if anybody can find them. End of search result.

I gasped. The condition itself was terrible, but people actually giving Pokemon it? I looked into Ponyta's eyes. They seemed so lifeless. Then I noticed all the other Pokemon. The weedle's tip of its tail was glowing red, signifying a poison sting attack. The Larvitar was growling. The Slugma was glaring hard. The Rattata was baring its teeth. The Ponyta stepped back into the shadows. Erick saw that the Ponyta didn't understand why the Pokemon didn't like it, since it couldn't grip emotion. It must be so sad. Dr Duos put his hand on my shoulder.
"Just…just give me a minute", I said, running out the lab, tears streaming down my face. I ran outside, feeling the sun hit my face, and ran round the back of the building, and kneeled down. I went through my mind, and then realised what I had to do. That Ponyta needed me… it was time he took a stand. For once in my life, I was going to make a change. I wiped away my tears, tilted my hat back to its original position, and then went back into the building.

"Professor Duos?" I said, seeing Professor Duos tending to a Rattata.
"Oh, Erick. I'm so sorry that you had to learn this at such a young age…"
"It's OK. I've decided that I'm going to take Ponyta", I said bravely.
"You shouldn't. Even masters trainers have some problems controlling Pokemon like this, because Ponyta will never grow attached to you. Even having that Larvitar would be easier, because with time it would become attached to you. But this Pokemon wont, even though it may follow orders, it will be painful to watch it. I've had trouble trying to raise it to be like the others. It's so lifeless…like a robot…and there is also the problem of it not being able to control its powers very well. It'd be easier if it would be a water or grass type, but fire is one of the types that are hard to control, as well as physic and dark. Are you sure you want to take Ponyta?"
I thought about it all. Should I?
"Yes, I'll take it. I'll take the Ponyta!" I said.
"Ok then" Professor Duos said, and went to the dark corner of the room, and then led Ponyta out. I stared deep into its eyes. It's soulless eyes. The Ponyta looked at me, lifelessly. It just stared at me. I let out a moan. I stared into its eyes. I couldn't take it anymore…I couldn't…. Then the Ponyta disappeared in a flash of red light. Professor Duos threw Ponyta's Pokeball into my hand. I muttered a thank you to God, then left, putting the Pokeball in my pocket.
"Good luck Erick, you're very brave. I suggest you catch another Pokemon as soon as you can!" Professor Duos advised, as I left the building. As I left, I couldn't help but wander, could I do it?

    Chapter two: Jason
I walked into the open air. To take my mind off of Ponyta, I looked at my new silver FreDex. It looked so high-tech. I wandered what the dial was for when I opened it. I turned the dial, and saw a whole new list of options come up. I soon realised that these were the different ?modes?. There were about eight modes, each with fifteen options. I did a quick calculation, and realised that there were one hundred and twenty options! And that doesn?t even include the huge archive of always-growing information! That was some piece of technology. I got a map on option one to come up. There, I saw a huge list of different continents come up. I soon saw Revatican, and selected it. I saw that the town where I was - Oral pearl ? was flashing, indicating that I was there. The obvious solution was to go through route one, and come to a crossroad. But, before I did that, there was a little business I had to attend too. I walked east, and soon came upon the police station. There was some information I wanted to know. I walked in to a bland room, with many doors and a reception area. I walked over to the reception area.
?Hello? A friendly blue-haired woman said.
?Hi. I?ve come here for some information, on Team ?bel?
The officer bit her lip. ?I?m sorry, but we can?t give out information to just anybody? she said. I sighed and walked away, before realising what I could do.
?What if I show you this?? I said, and handed over my FreDex. At first she looked stunned at the fact I had one, but then she took it. She opened it, used the dial to go onto mode three, and then said ?Police records? and up came a list of my police record, it must have been clean because she handed me my FreDex back, and then typed something on her PC in front.
?Ok then Erick, since you?re police record is completely clean, and then I am allowed to show you some information. Have you ever heard of Europe?? She asked.
I had. Europe was one of the rare continents where Pokemon were banned. We were taught about these in school. I told her that I had.

?Well, people there have told us that a gang of people from Italy and Germany ganged together from there. Their organisation grew, disguising themselves as a religious cult. They went over too Revatican, and there gang gained police attention when they started hiring Pokemon trainers. Accomplished trainers who had up too eleven badges suddenly dropped out of the Pokemon competition. Last month, police were sent to check out their base. They saw terrible things. People dressed in a black suit, injecting Pokemon. The Pokemon were terrified, and were injected with Kreaturkrankheit. Then, they released them, those poor mindless Pokemon. Fortunately, the police found them and they immediately scattered. A thorough investigation of the base revealed that Team ?bel are cowards. Each of the Pokemon was no more then level three, making it even worse since the Pokemon were young, but revealing that they are cowards. For some sick reason, they had filmed all of there experiment. Fourteen Pokemon had been injected. Five nidorans, four Rattata, three Pidgey, a Ponyta and a Nidoking. The Nidoking had escaped, and attacked the members. The Nidoking escaped. Unfortunately, those fourteen Pokemon escaped before they were treated. The police have small bathes, unfortunately not enough for the Ponyta and the Pidgey, as those need more then the others. We have police scouting the region for members of there team. Of course, they wouldn?t be wearing there uniform, but they have red ?U? tattoos on there neck?

The cop noticed my sadness, and she realised what had happened.
?You have one, don?t you?? She said. I nodded sadly.
?Good luck. I?m afraid we can?t offer a cure. I hope you eventually find the cure?
I thanked her, and then left. I decided that if I found a member of their group, I?d beat them senseless, maybe even kill them. Then my nagging common sense came in, bitterly reminding me that I would probably never find a member, and if I killed them I?d be as bad as them. Then I made a decision. I wouldn?t let Ponyta?s condition affect his relationship with it. I?d still work as hard as I would with it ? no, twice as hard because of the condition. And I swore to myself that I would buy the cure one day. I?d show everybody those creatures with Kreaturkrankheit could work just as hard as regular Pokemon!

With a new sense of hope, I proudly walked towards route one. I hungered for a Pokemon battle, to test out Ponyta.

I walked along, a great big smile on my face, and then came to a sign.
Route one, up ahead. Warning: You are entering a Pokemon inhabited area. Proceed with caution.
I read the sign, and then walked on. I kept one hand on the Pokeball that I had attached to my belt, in case I found anything. I kept to the gravel path, as I continued to walk. After about twenty minutes, I sat down to rest on the ground. I was breathing heavily, as I was quite worn out. Then, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around, and I saw a kid, about sixteen. He had dark hair with a white streak in the middle; he wore a jacket over a buttoned shirt, and some jeans.
?Hi? he said, outstretching his hand.
?Hello? I replied, shaking his hand.
?Are you a Pokemon trainer?? the kid asked me.
?Yes, I am. I?ve just started? I said, deciding to be friendly.
The kid looked puzzled. ?Well?aren?t you going to try and catch Pokemon??
?Well, I?ve been trying too. Pokemon won?t come to me.? I said.
?Where have you been looking?? he said.
?I?ve been walking across the path? I replied. The kid anime fell.
?You?re supposed to go in the grass if you want to catch Pokemon!? he said.
?Really? Oh, I?m so stupid!? I said. I was embarrassed, and I have a policy. When I?m embarrassed, quickly change the subject.
?So, are you a beginning trainer as well?? I asked.
?Yeah. I?ve just come from Aqua Pearl, up from the crossroads. I was hoping this would be a larger route but it isn?t? he said.
?So you?ve just received a starter then?? I asked.
?Yes. Hey, do you want a Pokemon battle?? he asked, obviously quite excited.
?Yeah sure? I said, and he backed off a little so there would be space for us too fight. He got out a Pokeball, and threw it.
?Go Magby!? he said as he threw it.
?Go Ponyta!? I said, as I threw my Pokeball.
The two of them materialised in the middle of the gravel. Magby was the first too react, an angry look on his face. Ponyta turned around, and ran towards me, making whimpering noises. I kneeled down to it, and hugged it. I felt its warm flames against my skin, not burning me, but soothing me. I let go of him.
?You can do it? I said. The Ponyta smiled weakly, then turned around, and faced Magby. The Magby was now growling, letting flames drop off of him, setting the grass alight around him, causing flames to burst up around him, making him look like a menacing figure. The trainer was shocked.
    ?What?s happening?? he asked.
?I think you?re Pokemon is using rage? I suggested.
The Magby ran at Ponyta, leaving a trail of flames behind him, setting the ground on fire as he ran at Ponyta. Magby?s fire grew into a fire aurora around him, and was about too hit into Ponyta. Ponyta looked helpless, and was also confused at what Magby was doing.
?Get out the way Ponyta!? I shouted, but Ponyta just backed off a little, tears forming in its eyes. It looked around helplessly, not knowing what to do. I couldn?t bear to look, I couldn?t see Ponyta hurt. But then, a marvellous stroke of luck occurred. Ponyta closed his eyes, and then unleashed a wave of fire everywhere. Magby was thrown back with the fire; he flew through the air, until he finally fell into the ground, his back landing on the rock. There was a crack, as Magby hit the rock. Even I was worried, I hoped the Magby wasn?t hurt. When the devastating wave of fire was over, the grass has been burnt, and what once was a field of grass, had been transformed into a patch of mud. A family of six Rattata were running away, there grass home destroyed. The trainer and I were amazed. Then I found a solution for what had happened, he remembered hearing that Ponyta couldn?t control his powers because of his condition.
?W?what happened?? The trainer asked, obviously amazed.
?It is an attack? I said, not resisting the opening to boast.
?You are strong then I thought. Well, I guess I have? his voice trailed off though, as the Magby got up.
?Mag? Magby said weakly, still ready to fight. The trainer saw that Magby was getting weak, and another strong attack may hurt it.
?Magby, use a tackle attack!? the trainer said, determined to win. The Magby jogged towards Ponyta. Fortunately, Ponyta was no longer scared as he saw that Magby wasn?t angry or a threat anymore. I thought about what to use, before I realised I didn?t know any attacks. Before I knew it, Magby had leaped into the air, and did a full-body tackle at Ponyta. Ponyta stumbled back, and tripped over something (I think it was a rock, but I didn?t see). Ponyta fell on his chest, knocking the breath out of him. It panted for air as it lay on the ground. I got out my FreDex and opened it, quickly looking for Ponyta?s attacks. Not thinking to point the FreDex at Ponyta too find out what moves he specifically had, I asked for what moves all Ponyta?s have. They popped up one by one, telling what level each attack was learned at. I guessed the Ponyta was around level twelve, and looked for attacks. The trainer was shocked at the fact I had a FreDex, but the shock quickly wore off, and he took advantage of my break too attack again.
?Magby, use an air punch!? he said.
Magby jumped into the air, clenching his hand into a fist, and he dropped down rapidly onto Ponyta. A second before he landed, he slammed his hand down on Ponyta, using the momentum from the drop to his advantage. Ponyta fell onto the ground because of the force of the attack, as Magby fell onto the ground, and ran a safe distance away. I was impressed by the agility of the Magby, it seemed like it had lots of experience.
?Ponyta, use galloping kick? I said. The Ponyta looked at me with those emotionless eyes. I resisted looking into them, because of the sadness they imposed on me. The other trainer seemed to be noticing that something was strange about Ponyta, because of the way it moved, almost robotic. It seemed too put no feeling into the attack. I ignored this though, and I pointed at Magby. Ponyta ran at Magby, gaining speed, and Magby saw this, and crouched into attack position.
?You know what to do? the trainer said to Magby. I wandered what he meant. Ponyta gained speed, and then turned round, and kicked out his legs at Magby. But, Magby jumped into the air, and came onto Ponyta?s head, and put him into a headlock. Then, Magby dropped to the ground, slamming Ponyta down with him. The Ponyta whimpered as it was pulled down, as it saw the determination in Magby?s eyes. Ponyta didn?t see it like any other Pokemon would, they would know it was just because that Magby was a good Pokemon, and being loyal to his master, but Ponyta thought that it was something personal against him. I felt sad for him, but then became more determined to win the battle. I had to prove too Ponyta that he was a good fighter.
?Magby, use an ember attack!? the kid said.
Magby drew in a deep gulp of air, and then spat out three fireballs at the Ponyta that was lying on the ground. Flames shot up, but Ponyta had the sense to roll away. Ponyta got up and ran towards me again.
?Ponyta! Use a flame wheel? I said, stepping in Ponyta?s path, not allowing it too get away. I know I was being hard on the guy, but it was the only way to prove to him that he was a good fighter. Ponyta turned around, and his firey mane began to circle around his neck, before shooting off in a wheel of fire. The Magby tried to escape, but got caught in the face with the blast. The fire burnt his face, and Magby fell onto the ground, clutching his face in pain. Magby was in no position to fight anymore, so the kid got his Pokeball, and withdrew him.
?Congratulations? he said, ?You did well?
?Speak for yourself? I said, withdrawing Ponyta. ?How did you teach Magby those fighting moves?? I asked.
?Back in Aqua Pearl there is a fighting dojo. I became good friends with the sensei, and when I got a starter I took him there to train? he said.
?Hmm, I?ll have to visit there? I thought aloud.
?Hey, do you want to travel together? We could split up at the crossroad? he suggested.
    ?Ok? I agreed. ?Hey, I didn?t catch you?re name??
    ?Jason? he said.
We walked into the grass, and started on our way to the crossroad. After a few minutes, I tripped over something. I stumbled, then regained my balance, and turned around to see what had knocked me over. At first I thought it was a rock, but upon closer inspection I saw it was a Geodude. It glared at me angrily. It flew up into the ground, and then tackles into me. I fell backwards, and the Geodude then attacked me again. I swore as I fell backwards, and fell flat on my back. The Geodude flew up to my face, and drew back his fist, preparing to punch me. I kicked out at it, and it was sent back a few inches before it regained balance. I scrambled up to see the Geodude now attacking Jason. Jason was trying to fight it off, but it persisted in tackling his shoulder. I did the only thing I could think of, I got a Pokeball, and threw it. It hit Geodude, who was caught in a beam of light. Then, the Pokeball fell to the ground. It wobbled three times, and then stopped. I had caught a Geodude! I checked my FreDex, to see its stats.

    Geodude
People often mistake these creatures for boulders, and trip over them. Geodude?s first plagued cavemen in ancient times by throwing rocks and scaring them out of caves. Large groups were found attacking humans. Nowadays, they are commonly found in caves and mountain paths, but lone Geodudes aren?t uncommon. These are rock/ground type creatures, making them vulnerable to grass and water attacks. They evolve to Graveller at level twenty five, before proceeding to Golem if bought under new care. Geodudes are known for getting angry quickly if stepped on.

This Geodude is level 11. It is a male, and comes from jhoto.

The FreDex gave me the option to find out more, but I cancelled.
?It is a male Geodude, level eleven, from jhoto!? I declared.
?From jhoto? How did it get over here?? Jason asked.
?Beats me. Anyway, let?s carry on? I said.
We continued to walk through the grass. I was wandering if Geodude would obey me now. I had caught it, but it was pretty mad before. I was itching to see. Then finally we came back into some long grass. We walked through it, and then finally a Pokemon made its presence clear. A Tyrogue appeared! I got out my FreDex immediately:

Tyrogue, the baby fighting Pokemon. At first people thought that Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee didn?t evolve, until the pre-evolution of them was found in a dojo in Jhoto. Shortly after, that Tyrogue evolved into Hitmontop, an entire new Pokemon. Puzzled at this strange evolution, they did some studying. They found out that the stats depend on what it evolves into. If attack is higher then it will become Hitmonlee, if the defense is higher it will become Hitmonchan, if the stats are equal, it will become Hitmonlee. Wild Tyrogue are normally bursting with energy, eager to evolve. It will fight anybody and anything. Tyrogue will become stressed if it does not fight every day. It?s competitive spirit is great, and it will challenge creatures far stronger then it. Would you like to know more?

I said ?no? and looked into Jason?s eyes. As if automatically, we both got out our Pokeball to fight this rare creature.
    ?Go Geodude!? I said.
    ?Go Volbeat!? he said.
Never seeing a Volbeat before, I stopped to admire the Pokemon. It flapped its wings, and did a somersault in the air, ready to battle. Me and Jason were both eager to capture Tyrogue. I was the first too react though.
?Geodude, use rock throw!? I said, instinctively knowing that Geodude would have that attack.
Small rocks materialised in Geodude?s hand, it turned to me, and proceded to throw them at me.
?No!? I tried to say, but it threw a rock at my forehead, and I was knocked down, blood trickling down my forehead.
?Volbeat, use thunderbolt!? Jason said, taking the opportunity.
Volbeat flashed yellow, before two lines of electricity came out, heading for Tyrouge. But, Tyrouge was ready, as when the electricity came he leaped onto the electricity, ran across it, and when he got to the end he kicked out at Volbeat, sending it diving down to the ground. Volbeat made a crater because of the force of that kick. I noted that not being hurt by the electricity and using a kick was definitely Hitmonlee-like.
?GEODUDE, ATTACK THE TYROGUE!? I screamed. A sly smile crossed his lips, before he turned to the Tyrouge. I got up, wiping blood off of my face, and looked at what Geodude would do. Geodude proceded to throw rocks at Tyrouge. But, Tyrouge flipped upside-down, and started to break dance rapidly. The rocks that hit him were sent flying back at Geodude, with twice the speed, knocking Geodude into the ground.
?Volbeat use quick attack!? Jason said.
?Geodude use rock punch!? I said.
Both Pokemon went towards Tyrogue. Volbeat went extremely fast, and was about to hit Geodude, when suddenly Tyrouge turned round and used a Mega Punch. Volbeat was hit, and sent flying through the air. Tyrouge then turned around to see Geodude coming for him, so he jumped into the air. Geodude was about to punch Tyrouge, when Tyrouge kicked out at Geodude?s fist. Amazingly, Geodude?s punch was stopped by the strength of Tyrouge?s kick, and was sent flying through the air. Tyrouge landed on the ground, as both Pokemon fainted. Tyrouge was breathing heavily, but still ready to fight. We both looked at eachother, amazed at Tyrouge?s strength. We knew what we both had to do.
    ?Go Ponyta!? I said.
?Go Magby!? Jason said. When they were sent out, we saw that they were still breathing heavily from the last match, and Magby still couldn?t see very well. Reluctantly, we withdrew them. Tyrogue ran away.
    ?Well done? Jason said.
?You too? I said. I bet down to pick up my Pokeball, as did Jason. Then I saw it. On his neck, was a red tattoo? It was a U.

Finding the cure for Ponyta's trouble...interesting, and a nice way to start out.

    Now, this line:

    The kid anime fell.

Unless you're planning on doing script formal of some sort...I don't think any 'anime' styled actions can be used in a proper fanfic. Also, when you're doing dialogues or thoughts, add commas:

?Hi,? he said, outstretching his hand.
?Hello,? I replied, shaking his hand.

Only main problem with it I found. Also, some word choices you made a mistake on. At the beginning, it's not 'wandered' what I can say, it's 'wondered.' You made that same word choice mistakes more than once though. 'Wandered' is to go around aimlessly, 'wondered' is thinking. Random past/present tense mixes, spelling and grammar errors are in there, but editing will help too.

Erick confuses me. I thought he was a tad bit mean when he wouldn't allow the Ponyta to forfeit the battle, even if he would've own and EVEN if he was sick. But meh. I suppose every trainer has his way. Other than that, a nice start off with the disease, although it confused me at times. I think it's wonderful for you to pick Ponyta because of its sickness, as Erick needs to find a cure.

Other than that, nice job. ^~

Thanks for reviewing lily pichu! Thank you for pointing out the 'wondered' thing, I didn't see that ^_^ Oh yeah, well Erick's personality is like that. He feels sorry, but he can't help but be a little mean. What confused you about the deasise? I'll try to answer.

    Chapter three: The dojo

I was shocked, and afraid. The temptation to run away from this place as fast as I could was quite tempting. My heart was beating in my chest, as if I had seen a murderer. I knew that I had thought of beating a member of there team up, but inside, I was terrified of ever meeting one. Jason picked up his Pokeball, and put it on his belt.

?Well, you win some you lose some, don?t you?? he said.

?Yeah? I said, quickly moving my stare to the ground.

?Have you got a mobile phone with you?? I asked, silently praying that he had.

    ?Yeah, why?? he asked.

?May I make a call with it?? I asked.

?Of course? he said, and opened his backpack. He rummaged through it for a while, before finally gripping the silver flip phone. ?Who do you want to call? he asked.

?My mom, she asked me to phone her on a public phone, but I guess it?s cheaper too use you?re mobile? I lied.

He tossed me the phone. I caught it, and then flipped it open. I looked at him, and he put his hands up, and realised I needed some privacy. He walked away. When I was sure he was out of earshot, I frantically dialled the Revatican police.

?How may I help you?? an officer replied.

?I?ve found a member of Team ?bel; he is currently travelling with me on route one? I said in a hurried but hushed voice.

The officer seemed to be in a shocked silence. ?I?ll come round personally right now. Make sure you do not leave route one. The bastard will soon be in custody? the officer said.

I disconnected the call, and gave the phone back to Jason. I thanked him, and we stared at each other for a minute.

?Are you alright?? he asked me.

?Yes? I said. I must have been flustered, as he seemed suspicious. ?It?s just the fact that my mom misses me, and I guess I?m homesick?

?Oh, I understand? Jason said, still eyeing me cautiously though. Then, I thought I saw a piece of the illegal forced stone in his pocket, but soon I realised it was just a piece of paper jutting out.

Get a hold of yourself! I told myself, you?re getting paranoid over some teenager! It?s not like he?s going to kill you!

Then, I heard the police siren coming from the crossroad. I eyed Jason, and he took it all in casually. He was a very good actor. Then, the police car came into view, and skidded to a stop in front of us. Five armed officers came out.

?Which one of you phoned us? one of the officers asked.

Jason looked at me angrily, and the police seemed to get the message, as all five of them leaped at Jason. Two held him to the ground, while the other two worked frantically to cuff his hands and feet to together.

?Erick, you?? Jason said, but was cut off as all five of the officers picked him up and hauled him into the police car.

?Thank you, kid. Have you got a Pokedex?? he asked.

I gave him my FreDex. He pressed some buttons, and then gave it back to me. He then got into the car that drove into the distance. I looked at my Pokedex, and it was the police records. It now had a gold star, with the words ?CAPTURED A MEMBER OF TEAM ?BEL? next to it.

I should have felt proud. I should have felt as if I had gotten one step closer to accomplishing my secondary goal of capturing the people who injected Ponyta with that terrible virus. But, I felt as if I had somehow made a mistake.

?No?, I thought ?he had the tattoo, I did the right thing?. I began to carry on walking down route one, the path of grass and gravel suddenly seeming empty. My shadow was the only thing that accompanied me. I walked through the grass, feeling as if I had done something terribly wrong.

As I walked through the route it was as if I was lost in my own thoughts, in my own guilt. Suddenly, a cry broke me out of my thought.

?Feaaaaaaaaarow!? I turned around, and saw a Fearow flying towards me! I dropped to the ground, to avoid the swooping monster. Instead of piercing my torso, the Fearow instead grabbed my black fedora off of my head.

?Hey!? I shouted as the Fearow flew off with my hat. Normally, I would have left it. But, with all these mixed feelings inside my head, I was blinded with rage.

Looking back, I realise what a stupid move this was. I ran across the path, gaining speed, then jumping into the air and grabbing onto Fearow?s legs.

The Fearow looked back, and saw that I had grabbed onto its legs. At that moment, I was terrified. I was high above the ground, so high that I feared that if I fell I would break my legs. The Fearow flew from side to side, in an attempt to get me to let go.

Even though I was absolutely terrified, it was a thrilling experience. The wind rushing at me, the speed that the Fearow was going at, it all added up to one wonderful ride. But, I had to hang on for dear life.

Then, I felt my hands slip. They slipped down a little, and this put more weight on the Fearow?s foot, making the Fearow drop down. The Fearow dropped the hat, and with that, I let go. In those few seconds that I fell through the air, I thought it was the end. I felt as if I was about to die. I closed my eyes, and braced for impact.

I awoke in a tree. My back felt like it had been snapped in half. Then I realised that it might just be snapped in half. I tried to move, but it hurt my body. If you?ve ever been sunburnt all over, then multiply that by ten, and you might have some idea of what I was feeling then.

I was about to attempt to move again, when I heard low voices nearby. I strained to hear them, it sounded weird. I soon realised it was a foreign language. I got my FreDex out, and went onto translate mode. It took me a while to figure out that they were speaking Italian. The words came up on the screen.
?-its Jason sir? one man said.

?What about him?? a deeper voice asked.

?He?s been captured by the police. Some kid called the police when he saw the tattoo. I don?t think it?s really a problem sir, I mean he did abandon us five weeks ago? the other man said.

?Yes, to go on a foolish Pokemon journey, I heard. What a disappointment. He had such a talent with fire Pokemon? the deep voice said.

?Shall we do anything about it?? the other guy said.

?Let me tell you a little story. It?s the story of Team Rocket. First of all, Team Rocket came, in the region of Kanto. They were a great team, led by the iron fist of Giovanni. There intentions were strong, yet there ways weren?t. One suspicious kid, just ONE, came and destroyed them. Do you know why he managed to destroy them?? the guy said, who I was assuming was the leader.

?No sir? the other man said.

?Because of their weak connection! When the members were beaten, they cracked, and told this one kid all they knew! With these clues, the kid reached Giovanni, and beat him! They scattered, the name ?rocket? put to shame! Three years later, they got back together in Jhoto. There plans were better, yet there strength was the same. They were destroyed the same way. We cannot be like that! If Jason reveals our plans, then it could be the end of us! Now, come on?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The two men hurried away quickly. I waited in the tree for a little longer, before falling to sleep in the tree.

I awoke in a hospital bed, a nurse standing over me

?What the??? I said, but the nurse put her finger over my lips.

?Save your strength. We found you on the ground, nothing broken, but still hurt. Relax, and you?ll be out in a day? she said.

I nodded, and found myself slipping back into a sleep. I awoke and had some lunch (which tasted horrible). Before I knew it, it was the next day. I left at around seven in the morning.

I felt the chilly morning air hit my face, and I recollected what had happened the previous nights. I couldn?t believe it. Jason was innocent! I had put an innocent person in jail! I decided to check the news on my FreDex, to see if there was any news.

?News? I said. Three of the latest headlines came up.

300 million expected for the Revatican league

Spearow number increased by hundreds in Jhoto

Member of team ?bel on the run

I immediately selected the one about the evil team member.

?Jason [second name unknown] has escaped from a jail in Aqua Pearl, Revatican. The tattoo on his neck confirmed allegations made by a young boy that he was a member of Team ?bel. He was sent to jail immediately, and was supposed to be up for questioning tomorrow. The police immediately confiscated his three Pokemon, but he smuggled a fourth Pokemon in [a Magby] and burned his way out of the cell, before running. A man claims to have seen him around the outskirts of Aqua Pearl, and police are currently searching for him. If anybody has information, the police would like them to contact the Aqua Pearl police on 912?

I read the news article before snapping shut my FreDex. I needed to find Jason. I needed to apologize and help him. I couldn?t go on with the burden of knowing that I had put an innocent kid on the run. I then stopped to take notice of my surroundings.

Aqua Pearl was certainly a large place. Tall buildings were everywhere, accompanied by many smaller buildings. Lots of people were already walking around, all in a costume. They were dressed as Squirle, Starmie, and much other water Pokemon. I wandered what was going on. Then, I saw a person who wasn?t in costume, and went over to him. He seemed to be ordering a lot of people around, as he was pointing and talking. He had short dirty blonde hair that extended over his eyebrows. He wore a jacket over a t-shirt, and sleek black trousers. I walked over to him.

?Excuse me? I said, and he turned around.

    ?Yes?? he asked.

?Could you tell me what is going on? Why is everybody in costume?? I asked, eager to know what was happening.

?New to Aqua Pearl, aren?t you kid? This is the annual Aqua Pearl parade, and you have to dress up as water Pokemon? he said, in more of a demanding then a factual way.

?Well, you aren?t in costume? I observed.

?That?s because I?m the gym leader, and I overlook proceedings, smartass? he said.

?You?re the gym leader?? I asked, confused because he looked about seventeen.

?Yeah, got a problem with that?? he asked, stepping closer so he stood over me.

?No, but I might as well inform you that I?ll be battling you soon? I said.

?Well, nice to meet you? he said, outstretching his hand. I shook it, and he squeezed hard, and it hurt my hand, but I remained as if it was all normal. He removed his hand.

?I?ll be seeing you soon then? I said.

?Yeah. But one more thing, don?t get on my bad side kid. You don?t want me as an enemy?

?Wouldn?t dream of it? I said, and we both went in opposite directions. I didn?t feel like joining in the parade. Then, out of the blue, a man and a woman stepped out.

?If you are joining in the parade, then I?m afraid we need to check you?re poke balls for security reasons?

I didn?t want another argument, so I handed them my Pokeballs. Geodude?s Pokeball fell on the floor, but Geodude obviously didn?t want to come out, so it didn?t open. I picked it up, and they handed me Ponyta?s Pokeball after they had turned round and checked it. I carried on walking towards the outskirts of Aqua Pearl. Then I stopped. What was I doing? I wasn?t going to find James if the police couldn?t. I might as well head to the Pokemon centre, I needed something to eat.

I walked down the road, and a Pokemon centre soon came into view. I quickened my pace a little. I was soon inside.

?Hello, how may I help you?? the nurse said, in a somewhat bored tone.

?Heal my Pokemon, and can I have a chocolate bar?? I asked.

?Sure. The chocolate will be 25 cent, please?

I handed her the money. She gave me a chocolate bar, and I handed her my Pokeballs. All went normally, until the machine suddenly exploded in a burst of fire. Smoke filled the room. My natural instinct was to run, but I needed to get my Pokeballs. Nurse joy grabbed a fire extinguisher, and put the fire out.

?What the **** just happened?? I demanded.

?I?m not sure? the nurse said, and took the Pokeballs from the machine. They were both a little black. She took Geodude?s, and pressed the front button. Geodude came out, and decided to have a nap on the counter. She pressed Ponyta?s Pokeball and, to my horror, nothing happened.

?You?re Pokeball has been clamped shut!? she announced, ?I?ll phone the police?
I sat down. I tried to recall what happened, and then it clicked. The two people that wanted my Pokeballs! They clamped Ponyta?s shut! I couldn?t believe it! I was so angry. But there was no time for revenge now; the priority was to get Ponyta out the Pokeball.

A few minutes later, two police officers came (a man and a woman) and looked at the Pokeball.

?This is the work of Team ?bel!? the man announced. ?It?s got a small red U on the split between the red and the white. I?m afraid that we can?t do anything?

?What? You?re supposed to be the police, what do you mean you can?t do anything!? I screamed, tears of rage coming into my eyes.

?Hey kid, don?t give me any of this? the man started, but the woman cut him off.

?If you follow the path then take a left turning, you will find the dojo. The dojo master can unclamp Pokeballs, he has done it before? the woman said, before they both left.

?I?ll be going now? I said to the nurse. I took my Pokeballs, and left the building. I followed the advice of the cop, went outside, and followed the path. I took a left turning, and I finally found myself in front of a run-down building, with Japanese letters written on it. Oddly, there was a Machop on the roof that was eyeing me oddly. I walked into the dojo, being watched by the Machop carefully. I walked inside, and I saw around eight people training vigorously with there Pokemon. When I came in, they all cart wheeled around eachother in an amazing spectacle that you would expect to see in a circus. Then, they all stopped.

?To get to the belt, you must first defeat us? they began.

?I don?t want a belt, I need to see the dojo master, and my Pokeball has been clamped? I said. One of them went and opened the door at the opposite of the room. I went over there, and saw the dojo master kneeling down, with a Machamp at his side. The huge Pokemon opened its eyes when I came in, and I felt nervous just at its presence. Its muscles were huge. I gasped at it, and the dojo master opened his eyes.

?You are obviously not here for the belt. Nobody beats the octomasters that quickly. You are obviously here on other duties? he said in a deep voice.

    ?Yes, my Pokeball was??

    ?Clamped?? he finished.

?Yes. Can you do anything to help?? I asked, handing him the Pokeball.

?Yes. Machamp, Iratsou routine? he said, tossing the ball to his Machamp. His machamp grabbed the ball and threw it with such strength against the wall that it went through the wall, and rolled onto the grass. Machamp used an amazing agility attack, retrieved it, and bought it back.

?That?s?amazing? I said, gawping in awe. The dojo master stood up and bowed, and I bowed back, before leaving the dojo. The octomasters didn?t look up when I left the room. I left the dojo, and when I came out of the building, it seemed that the sun had come up. I could hear the music of the festival, and I felt like joining it. It seemed that ever since I had entered Aqua Pearl things were looking gloomy. It was time to lighten up, let myself go. I began to walk towards the music, but before I had taken three footsteps I saw two people leaning against the tree. When they came into the light, I saw they meant trouble. One of them smiled at me, while the other one cracked his knuckles. As they circled me I saw the tattoos on there neck. They were members of Team ?bel for sure. I was scared. These guys meant trouble.

?Have you got any Pokemon?? one asked me, a sly smile on his face.

    ?No? I said.

Just then, the octomasters and the dojo master ran out of the dojo, and attacked the two guys. And when I saw attacked, I mean attacked. Four went on one, punching him in the stomach and the face. He was trying to defend himself but he couldn?t block the powerful punches and kicks to his gut and face. They pushed him onto the ground and began kicking him savagely, not stopping at all. The other one tried to run, but another four octomasters grabbed him and pushed him into the tree he was leaning on. When against the tree, the octomasters punched him in the stomach repeatedly, until he began coughing up blood. Then, they shoved him onto the ground and began kicking him savagely as well. When the assault was over, the two people were on the floor, unconscious. Although I knew they deserved it, it shocked me to see it happen so quickly, and the viciousness of the octomasters shocked him. The dojo master spat on both of them, before they went back into the dojo.

?Wait? I said to the dojo master, ?I thank you for what you did, but I?m just wandering??

?I might as well tell you who we are. First of all, we are part of the eight dojos around Revatican. We are tougher then gyms, and we aren?t as well known as league, but we still draw a fair amount of people to the championships that are normally held in the North Mountains after all eight belts are collected. There has always been a rivalry between us and Team ?bel. There people used to attack our people when we first started out, just because they could. They wouldn?t dare attack gym leaders, so we were the next best thing. So, we got tougher and tougher and better known. But even now, it isn?t one sided. Although when we are in groups it may seem one sided, it really isn?t. They have a growing number of followers. Just a week ago, a group of them attacked the dojo up in Vicmor pearl, the newest dojo. The members of that dojo are in hospital, making our rivalry even more intense. We just have to wait for August 2nd?
