Hey. I'm new to Ruby/Sapphire and am pretty overwhelmed by all the new crap thats involved in terms of team strategies and movesets.
I havn't played pokemon since gold/silver and wasn't the best at it then.

So first what I want to know is what the common 'team themes' are for r/s like baton passing, toxic/spike/roar teams, blah blah etc etc...

    And....
What're some good movesets for Dusclops?
How do you get baton pass on an Absol?

    Thank you.
Oh, one more thing. I'm old. Too old to be playing this game. And I don't care if I'm a "newbie" or whatever you kids call it now. Don't be nasty and sarcastic with me just yet please, and expect many dumb questions to come from me

Right...nice way of welcoming yourself eh? Whatever. Welcome to the PC. We're not nasty. Most of us aren't anyways. Sarcastic, probably.

I believe you obtain Baton Pass on Absol through the process of breeding. It's called Egg Moves. Breed it with a Pokemon that already knows Baton Pass and the egg will be an Absol that can learn Baton Pass. Read the Breedgind section of the R/S FAQ for more information on breeding.

No idea for a moveset on Dusclops. Ask for help for that in the Pokemon Movesets forum. And check the Battling FAQ in that forum for information on the team types. Go to https://www.pokecommunity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 for the Movesets forum.

How old ARE you??? 20? 30? 50? 70? Do I really have to go farther along the age line?

Err..sorry if I didn't come off well. The last pokemon board I posted on seemed to be populated by arrogant little nerds who wouldn't dare lower themselves to help a 'n00b'.

I've just read more of the threads on this board and everyone seems quite civil and helpful, so hooray!

    I'm 23.

All I really need to know about Dusclops is if there are any moves that are "must have" that require breeding to get. I don't want to go raise one up and then find out I can't get the best move for it.

I choose my pokemon based on looks, mostly. I don't like the cutesy-poo gay looking ones like wigglytuff or whatever. You know the ones I mean.
Yes, its shallow and pointless, but so am I. :D

Well, I don't know anything about Dusclops, but here is a list of the moves it can learn through breeding.

    Destiny Bond (Ghost)
    Faint Attack (Dark)
    Grudge (Ghost)
    Imprison (Psychic)
    Memento (Dark)
    Pain Split (Normal)

err... when did age have anything to do with Pokemon? =/ Tsk tsk... You shouldn't worry like that! If you truly want to be good in Pokemon, just make sure to do the following:

    a) take the effort to read stuff... read the Pokemon RS FAQ, along with the advanced trainer's guide that's stickied in Pokemon Strategy section (it'll have those spike, roar, baton pass and stuff). They can answer a lot of questions for you before you even ask anything.

    b) pretend that pride doesn't exist and ask for help from these little 14-18 year olds XD

    c) be patient, and read stuff, and listen to people

Do the above 3, and you'll be just fine ^_^. And no questions are ever dumb, as long as they aren't repeatingly asked... Ask the question in the stickied Simple Question thread if the question has a factual and universial answer. However anything with battling (such as movesets) always go to strategy section. I certainly do not mind helping anyone at all, as long as they are willing to listen to suggestions... really no one is a "noob" because everyone was at some time a "noob"... and since the knowledge required to "master" the Pokemon game is endless, everyone is a noob because only a noob doesn't know everything to a game.

Since Dusclops is a "tanker," you should use moves that are defensive based without any offensive attacks like ice beam. However, that doesn't mean you are not attacking at all... there's always seismic toss...

    Dusclops- [def or sp.def + / sp.atk -] @ leftovers
    EV: HP max, def, sp.def
    -will o wisp
    -seismic toss (FRLG Move tutor)
    -protect
    -pain split

This is the standard set for a Dusclops, who is a OU (overused) Pokemon because of its great stalling abilities along with will o wisp and pressure abuse. Burn your enemies to divide their attack power by half, and use protect to stall along with leftovers. Seismic toss as an offensive move that always do 100 dmg regardless of your pathetic attack power, and pain split to heal yourself, or to cause unimaginable chaos against Blissey.

I look forward to answering your questions, as your altitude already tells me that you're not a stupid noob (a stupid noob = someone who doesn't listen and thinks that s/he's the best)

Heheh, don't worry about the age mate. I'm 22 and I still play. So is my house mate, and he's been playing as long as I have (ever since Red/Blue first came out).

Frosty knows his stuff when it comes to movesets, so take heed of his advice, he's usually right :-)

Welcome to PC Satan'sLittleHelper. I have been here only a couple weeks myself and have not had any problems from these youngsters (kidding ;) ). Sure there are some that will act like snots but most are willing to help and some even go out of their way to help. I'm 35 btw.

    ***off topic I know. Sorry***

Ok ok, I'm not ashamed of my age anymore!! :nervous:
Thanks for being all nice and stuff.

Um, question: how do you get pain split on dusclops? Does that move even exist in r/s?

It learns Pain Split through Egg Moves which are from breeding.

The usual trend in RS battling is having a fast sweeper. EV's made it so most defensive Pokemon have a hard time battling. People also love to abuse moves like Bulk Up and Calm Mind which raise two stats without any real penalty, unlike Curse in GS. But just because fast attacking is the trend doesn't mean that you HAVE to battle that way.

through misdreavus, Dusclops can get the egg move pain split... misdreavus is quite an important Pokemon in terms of breeding as it's an important Pokemon for Weezing and other pain spliters.

Dusclops can also learn snatch to steal buff up moves, as another option.
