understanding pokemon series

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could help me Im a little confused, Ive been following the pokemon series and wondering why series 16 is not finished and x&y series has started.
I want to watch x&y but I want to watch it after series 16 finished and looking on wikipedia it says there are still many episode to be released from 16! Pls help many thanks!

The XY series started in Japan, but not here. The two episodes that aired here last week was a sneak preview. We still have about 7 more episodes of season 16 to go. So by that, the XY series should officially start here around mid-December. I can't wait for it to start either, it's so good! xD

Thanks for your reply, I just thought it was strange giving us 2 new episodes and werent sure whether next weekend would be an episode from season 16 or x&y! I dont like that they have done this and Im sure Im not the only fan that got confused by it when we know there's still a few episodes of season 16 :/ Its made me want to watch x&y episodes when I need to finish this series first.
On another note we have some more really good things heading our way with Pokemon like Pokemon origins and the new series! I hope they keep up with the good work :)
