    Hey I was just wondering if people here could help settle a discussion for me and my best friend. We both play Pokemon TCG a LOT. We've collected for years and so we play unlimited format so we can use as many of our cards as possible. Today we came up with this little conundrum:- she had a Victreebel in the active spot with a poke-body that makes my pokemon's retreat cost +2 more. I had a Pupitar up that has a poke-body that says if I attach any energy to it, its retreat cost is 0.

    Which poke-body takes command here? Like which one do we go by? (I never actually got an energy before she knocked out the poor Pupitar so it never became an issue, but we discussed it for a while after lol)

    I've never played competitively so I may not be the best person to answer this, but I would assume that Pupitar's Poké-Body only affects its original Retreat Cost.

    Would that then mean Pupitar's retreat cost would go to 0 should there be energy on it, but then upped to 2 again because Victreebel is active?
     
    That was my guess, but I did some digging and it looks like I assumed wrong. Here's a similar situation:

    Q. Team Aqua Hideout increases the Retreat Cost for certain types of Pokémon - how does this affect a Pokémon that has a Poké-BODY that reduces the cost to zero, or a Pokémon that doesn't have a cost to retreat?
    A. If a Pokémon doesn't have a Retreat Cost, it now has a cost of one. If a Poké-BODY reduces the cost to zero, the cost remains zero.

    YW! Here's another example that might better answer your question:

    Q. A Vespiquen that used its "Mach Wind" attack on my previous turn was hit by Grimer's "Sticky Liquid" attack during my opponent's turn. In this instance, what is Vespiquen's retreat cost during my next turn?
    A. It has no Retreat Cost. When effects that increase something like Retreat Cost by a particular amount are stacked on top of effects that make something like Retreat Cost vanish, the vanishing effect takes priority.
