Unreal Based Fan Game...?

    Hey everyone!

For the last few days I have been compiling resources and have 2 developer friends of mine and I who are interested in making a Unreal Engine based Pokemon Fan Game. This is something I have put a lot of thought into, and am in University for development and at the very least, would like to do a demo..

However, I am worried. I have tried to find as much information about the past Fan Games who have been DMCA'd, but I can't find definitive information about -why- each one was for sure taken down. Some sources say they were making Ad Rev off the sites, some say other things..

I am not new to the Fan Game community, have played plenty of them, but I am 'out of the loop' about the commonality and reasoning some games get taken down, but others like PRO or PokeMMO etc seem to be able to be fine?

I want to create a game that would be fun for the community and put my knowledge of development to the test, but am worried about such takedown requests. Is there any way these other successful games are circumventing this? Or did TPCi stop caring?

    Any feedback is appreciated.
