Well. I have a problem with my computer.

Basically, my computer, which is running Windows XP SP3 is unable to update anything from Google Chrome to Real Player to AVG OR Norton Internet Security. It also seems to be blocking all Microsoft links downloads (by showing a "This Page could not be found") and all Microsoft Software from installing (When trying to update Windows Live Messenger, it says there is a connection issue even though everything is connected, when trying a fresh install, it says the same thing, all Windows Live software are being blocked.)

I have concluded it is unlikely to be Conficker as this "block" only affects Microsoft download links and Anti-Virus softwares, (not the sites). Also, I have not heard of Conficker blocking browsers from updating, and it has been going on way before April 1st.

So, basically, if I am unable to update my Anti-Virus...how do I find out what is wrong?

    Help?

You got a virus or Confiker. It hasd to be 1 or the other I doubt it isn't. Now as to what you have to do? Get rid of AVG. You are basically giving the access to viruses to your computer. Other than that good luck.

I have already ditched AVG...using Norton Internet Security now but it is useless if I can't update it.

Well then I have no idea what you can do. If it is not being able to update it then you have a problem. I have the same thing for NOD32 just mine went from full to trial cause well I have my reasons.

I've seen this happen before. Download Malwarebytes and run a full system scan. The software is actually free, even though it's labeled as a trial. The only difference between the paid version and the free one is the ability to do real-time protection and scan on a schedule.

If you cannot download or install this either, boot your computer into Safe Mode with Networking (usually F8 while the computer is booting followed by selecting it from a list) and download it from there. This should solve your problem.

Hmm. I can't access the Malwarebytes site. Will it work properly if I download it from download. com?

Seeing as you cannot access Malwarebytes try other antivurs antimalware sites. If you cannot I fear you have gotten Confiker.

I think you need to a) learn to spell "Conficker" and b) stop thinking everything is caused by Conficker.

Try downloading MalwareBytes here (download.com); it's not hosted on-site, so you should be able to access it.

Considering the fact that his Antivirus isn't updating either, I don't really think that's the issue here.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind and informative advice.

I downloaded MalwareBytes and it managed to clear out everything, I am currently updating all the stuff that I am behind on.

Although, I still can't connect to Windows Update, generally, the problem is solved.

    Thank you.
