Used pokémon games, is anyone else like this or is it just me?

My used GBC had shot speakers, the buttons were worn out, and the sticker on the back was worn to the point you could barely read it. It was also a rather nasty color. However, even used games were almost outside our price range, so I was extremely grateful to have a GameBoy at all and disregarded its appearance completely. I still have that GameBoy, it's still working fine, and I'm still glad I got it.

The cartridges themselves looked fine as far as I can tell (other than the giant USED sticker), and I've never had any problems with them in all these years.

I don't mind the appearance at all, so long as it works! I'm grateful to have the game at all.

I wanted my used DS Lite to be in good shape because I'd be using it heavily for the long haul, and I didn't want to put up with the scratched top screen like I had to with my DS Phat.

As for games, all I require is that they work. I was actually able to get my Soul Silver for a hefty discount because I got it used. It came with the case, but I don't always require it when buying used games. Heck, when I trade back games to GameStop, I just keep the case and instructions and just hand over the cartridge/disc, lol

Me? Well, depends.

If the game is a Gameboy Advance game, I just ask to test the cart if it works 100% properly.

If it is a Nintendo DS game, well, I do not buy it, because DS games are supposed to be perfect to work on the DS.

+1. Just ask to test it. I've had so many problems with used carts. They may look fine on the outside, but once you start playing them...

I always ask the person/store giving me the used game if I can play it for 10 mins or so and see if it saves properly. Thankfully the Exhange I go to allows me to play the game on my system to see. There was a Heartgold copy I wanted but it didn't save properly. You'd hit save and when you started it back up it would have the New Game option. >.<

Wow I thought this thread didn't get posted! But I'm glad to see some other people are just as picky as me when it comes to this.

I would have done the same thing. When I re-started pokemon last year, I had the choice between Diamond and Platinum, and I bought Diamond because it was cheaper and came in the original case. I have since regretted it. I wish I would have bought Platinum, because I won't go back and buy the same generation over again. If Emerald was messed up, I would have said, "That's too bad. I'll just wait till I go to the next store and hope to find it there." In fact, that very thing happened to me today. I had the opportunity to get Sapphire in its original box for $20, but I passed it up because it wasn't Emerald.

I plan on going back to buy Ruby sometime later on just for collector's sake. I've gotten a lot more pickier with used games lately after I bought a spanish pokemon blue. Well it was only $4 dollars at a pawn shop I went to, but I wasn't expecting it to be in Spanish when I got home to play it.

I'm only wary of used games cus they are often fakes, and they die. A fake that I did'nt know was a fake dying on me lost me my best game, including my favourite pokemon at the time, Level 77 shiny Zapdos (my only ever shiny).
When it's obviously not fake though, I'd get it whatever. I've had good experiences with used games too.

Yeah, I don't really ever get used DS Games, but once when I did (not Pokemon) it turned out to still be sealed and in the wrapper and everything. Plus it was half the price of getting it new. So I usually don't tend to get used DS games but I don't mind getting used GBA or DS ones off carboot sales as if they don't work then its only about £2, as there really cheap at carboots over here.
In fact all of my GBA collection are used either off Amazon or carboots, as GAME doesn't sell GBA games here. Shame, but oh well.
