[Theory] Valerie: Gym Leader and Hex Maniac?

A few days ago, after playing Pokemon Y, I became very interested in the Hex Maniacs. Because of this, I went around looking for good stories and pictures. Even creating my own trainer. But as I was searching, I came across a small tidbit of information that lead me into working a theory around the Fairy Gym Leader Valerie and the Hex Maniac Valerie. So here I am, posting my idea to the PokeCommunity. This is my first official post within the site -besides the introductory thread-, so I hope you enjoy this and respect the effort I put into it, as well as other posters. Thank you.

I am going to start with the obvious information available that can disprove and aid this theory so that you, my readers, can draw your own opinion on the matter.

    Alright, so we know that:

    1) Both are named Valerie, and though it may not matter, they are spelled the same.

    2) Valerie the Gym Leader uses Fairy-type pokemon, an obvious difference between the ghost/psychics the Hex Maniacs use: Mawile, a steel-fairy, Mr Mime, a psychic-fairy, and Sylveon, a fairy. While Hex Maniac Valerie uses Sableye, a dark, [and later], Spoink, a psychic, Duskull, a ghost, and Grumpig (evolved from Spoink), a psychic.

    3) It is stated that Valerie is from Johto, not Hoenn, where Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald take place.

    4) GL Valerie once worked as a model.

    5) HM Valerie is the only Hex Maniac who you fight more than once.

    6) And finally, and most obvious, they look NOTHING alike.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I can say that it's probably about a 50/50 chance that they are be the same person. The next section is purely speculation based on minute facts found throughout many areas of research.

Not long ago, a young woman had the desire to become a Gym Leader, but no official starters had been claimed, so there was only one; Eevee, chosen for it's ability to evolve into five different types. Once she was prepared, she started her journey throughout the Johto region. Even so, she could not find any pokemon that intrigued her enough and kept only one pokemon around, her starter.

Everything seemed to be going her way until one day, she ran into the revived Team Rocket and their leader, the Masked Man; someone who'd successfully captured Ho-oh and was using the bird pokemon to kidnap promising young trainers.

In an attempt to escape, her friend and ally, Eevee, was severely damaged and passed away before she had the opportunity to get it to a pokemon center. And because there was no Graveyard for pokemon, she traveled to Hoenn, since she had to pokemon to help her. Upon arrival, she immediately went to Mt. Pyre in order to bury Eevee.

For some time she stayed there, managing to catch a Sableye to keep her company as she mourned.

As she was wandering around, she ran into a young trainer and was challenged to a battle. The thought of fighting had been something she didn't want to think about, but as the question burned in her mind, it also began a new passion in her heart. She accepted. And lost. It felt as if her stomach were being wrenched apart.

Again she challenged him. And again she lost. Again. And again. And again. Realizing that she lacked the potential of a master trainer with the pokemon she had, she left, heading north. Slowly, she shed the image of her past and traded her pokemon away, entering pokemon contests as she did so. For Sableye, she got a Mawile; for Duskull, she got Mr. Mime; and for Grumpig, a newborn Eevee, in order to honor her deceased friend.

Elesa, seeing how promising she was, took her on as an apprentice and taught her how to be a model. From this, her appearance changed drastically. Her clothes became lighter and more frilly, she grew her hair out, and her eyes regained a sparkle she believed she'd lost forever.

Eventually, Valerie left Sinnoh and continued north, to Kalos. It was here she found out about Sylveon and opted to evolve the pokemon. Once she'd gone through all the gyms and battled the Elite Four, she was accepted as a Gym Leader specializing in fairy-types.

Each of the pokemon she has symbolizes something about her:

Mawile is thought to be the counterpart of Sableye. She symbolizes the fear turned turned into positive and aggressive energy.

Mr. Mime is built upon the idea of being stuck in a box. For a long time, she felt like this. Owning her now symbolizes her ability to now move forward with her life.

Sylveon is a peaceful pokemon and symbolizes the acceptance of her past without being forgetful of it.

At times when she begins to remember those days in Johto, Sylveon is there to help her through the pain by exhibiting a calm aura, Mr. Mime will do her best to make her laugh, and Mawile will remind her that there's always something worth fighting for. Together, they symbolize her past, her present, and the possibilities of the future...as long as she keeps moving forward.

There you have it. If you like my theory, feel free to post. If you disagree, you're welcome to state your ideas. And if you have anything to add, I'd love to know.

(Originally, I thought she could have tried to find Ho-oh in order to revive Eevee, since it's rumored that he has the capabilities to do so. But it isn't really stated if other regions know about this, at least at the time she would be traveling through. That and it didn't seem to fit, since she would more than likely be found near the tower or a town with extensive knowledge of legends and myths if this were the case.)

    Yours Thoughtfully,

    Shiroark

    Wow. Such imagination.

This reminds me of that complex where you imagine someone's whole life story before you meet them. Wouldn't it be nice if they developed characters this deeply? I'm not sure I can refute any of it, but this could also has the potential to thrive as a thread where we weave complex stories of seemingly ordinary trainers.

I've always appreciated when folks travel regions, such as Koga to the Elite Four in Johto.
