Hey guys this is my first time trying to get to do a proper fanfic, I had done a Maple Story fanfic in the past on another forum but their fanfic section didn't go anywhere. So it would be much appreciated to get as much critique as I can.
This will be a fanfic of Cardfight Vanguard and it will loosely follow the lore for the card game. I will try to only use characters that exist in the game so that anyone who doesn't know them can just search their names up on the wikia.
WARNING
This fanfic contains violence, poorly written violence but violence none the less.
~Prologue: The Blade of Determination~
"Junos, it is okay to be afraid. As long as you are determined to see this through then even your lack of courage will not be a problem."
I could not understand how Fullbau could be so confident in our predicament. I should have known that my new found powers were too good to be true, the master immediately sent me on a suicide mission after he gave me this new blade. If I go back now he would surely kill me for I now know too much about his group but the mission requires me to breakout a high commanding officer of the United Sanctuary that had been placed under house arrest with only Fullbau by my side. Even if my sword has incredible power, it does not change the fact that I am to enter enemy territory with nothing but a dog for a companion.
As I start moving towards the base I notice that dark clouds have started to cover the clear night sky and not even the full moon's light could pierce through them. I might as well count myself lucky as now we can camouflage in the night and hopefully make it through without any trouble. Of course as I think that I immediately hear the sounds of barking and in no time at all, 4 Snogal have managed to surround us. By themselves the Snogal pose no threat to me but their strength comes in numbers and they are widely feared for how coordinated they are. However what really got me scared was the fact that Garmore, the Fang of Light, was their leader and as we are now we would surely be annihilated by him.
Before the Snogal had the chance to attack, Fullbau had immediately charged one of them away and in their moment of hesitation I was able to slash one of them across the neck. The other two chose to immediately pounce on me. I was struggling to hold them back and I began to fear for my life but that fear made me realise just how I determined I can be when it comes to avoiding death. As soon as I tried pushing them away, my blade had started to glow and an intense wave of energy blasted outwards, incinerating both of my targets in an instance. While I stood there in awe of my new abilities, Fullbau smiled at me and it took me a while to notice that he maimed that Snogal into a more unrecognisable state than the burnt corpses in front of me.
"Like I said, even if you are afraid, your determination will be more than enough. Anyways we better get moving the incessant barking of those wild beasts could not have gone unheard."
I'm starting to think that Fullbau has no idea that he's a dog nor does he know how lucky we were that their leader Garmore was not here to take command. If only Fullbau had seen that man on the battlefield then he would have known how terrifying the Snogal can be. As we continue to get deeper into the base, we managed to quickly silence any Snogal or Brugal that get in our way before they can send out any warnings, well at least Fullbau did anyway.
"By the way Fullbau, just why were we chosen for this dangerous mission?"
"Our master has chosen you as the new wielder of the blade and expects you to be his right hand. My purpose is to follow the one who wields the blade."
"Does that mean I'm not the first user of this blade?"
"Correct. Many before you have died trying to harness its power."
I had already been rejected by a blade in favour of another, so when Fullbau had told me the significance of the blade, I can became more determined to prove myself worthy of the blade and once again my blade began to glow but this time my armour also glowed with it. As I looked over at Fullbau he began to smile again. For someone who's feared for carrying storms of darkness wherever he goes, Fullbau sure does smile a lot; of course I was still too scared to actually say that to him.
Suddenly a large impact comes knocking me afar and as I get up I see frightening figure in front of me, it was the Knight of Tribulations, Galahad. He was a knight famed for his ability to pilot some high speed contraption in battle, I don't know what my new armour was made of but I'm glad that it was able to take a blow from that thing Galahad rides on. As frightening as Galahad was, the man standing behind him had me even more worried, he was wielding a large sword that was set ablaze. Although it was my first time seeing it I had heard of a man called Palamedes who was rising through the ranks of the Royal Paladins with a sword of fire. It had become quite obvious what their goal was, Galahad had tackled me afar in order to separate Fullbau and I. Fullbau might have been able to shrug off blows from most enemies, his tough skin is not going to protect him from fire.
I knew I had to get past Galahad if I wanted to save Fullbau but he was just too fast. He was able to circle around me on that machine and every time I tried to move he would just slam into me, knocking me further away. My only hope was to unleash that energy from my sword like before, even if Fullbau had to tell me more than once, I finally figured out that it was my determination that gives my blade strength and right now I was very determined to save Fullbau. The blade had started glowing more brightly than ever but much to my dismay there was no blast of energy. I tried to swing again at Galahad but to no avail and once again he knocked me back but this time I noticed that my blade had just nicked the ground yet it managed to leave a deep cut. Even though my blade had grown more powerful it was painfully obvious I had not and I still couldn't find a way to stop Galahad. He came charging at me again and once again I was unable to dodge, this time however he finally managed to smash through my amour. My armour now had a hole in the breastplate and it had stopped glowing but my blade however had finally started to glow outwards and this time it unleashed a wave of energy hitting the others.
Much to my dismay, my attack had hit Fullbau, I didn't bother to check if Galahad and Palamedes were still alive I just rushed to Fullbau. I noticed that his heart had not stopped beating yet and I quickly carried him away as I made it closer to our target. After our near death experience, something very important had slipped my mind. Up ahead there was one last knight we had to get pass and I recognised him right away. It was the Fang of Light, Garmore.
"Junos! Is that You? Where have you been and what are you wearing?"
I don't know if I was glad that he remembered me or if I was sad that I thought that no one would care if I left. Either way I knew what I had to do. I put Fullbau down to the side and as my hands shake and my legs start to tremble I hold my blade forwards pointing it at Garmore. I rush forward with all my might and muster all the strength left in my body as I swing my blade at him but it only took him one arm to stop me. I could see the confusion on his face, even in his moment of hesitation, his worst state of mind; he had completely stopped my attack without even trying. If he was serious about this he would have already crushed me with his other arm.
"Why are you doing this? Don't tell me you've joined with those rogues that oppose his majesty King Alfred."
I stood there unable to answer him, still terrified for my life but he still held onto my blade waiting for me to say something but in that moment Fullbau had gotten up and bit his leg. In that moment of pain Garmore had let go of my blade and I managed to land a mighty slash across his chest. Although I had the opportunity to finish off my enemy I couldn't bring myself to do it not after all times he's saved me on the battlefield and definitely not after the horrible excuse of a battle we just had. I decided to continue to move forward and Fullbau understanding my wishes followed me while leaving Garmore alone.
We finally made it to our target and strangely enough there weren't any guards outside the room. I had started to wonder just what kind of person were we about to meet, after all the King had placed such high ranking knights like Galahad, Palamedes and Garmore on the premise but left no one to guard the door. As I opened the door I saw a young woman with silver hair sitting at a table, she was drinking tea and also had a cup of tea prepared for seat where a teddy bear was seated. She looked up at me and gave me a penetrating stare.
"Oh! Just who might you be?"
There was no longer any hesitation in me, while I was walking towards here I had realised that I was no longer the man known as Junos, from now on I am the Shadow Paladin called
"Blaster Dark"
