Ironspire was bustling with life. Skye often found herself very lost among the hubbub, but somehow managed to escape alive. She visited a few shops to pick up some food that she could not get back home. Since there was no Poke Mart in Sunset Village, she tended to buy more things for Fury than herself.
Walking down the crowded sidewalk, she stopped by her favorite photography supply shop, picking up a bulk order of film, and dropping off some to be developed.
"It's always so nice to see you, Skye," the old lady behind the counter, Keiko, said to her, the laugh lines around her mouth and eyes creasing as she smiled. "You're like a breath of fresh air in this stuffy city!"
"Aw...thank you," Skye said kindly, her cheeks glowing. "How has business been? I suspect a lot of people have come in since that photo competition started up!"
"Oh, it's been busy!" Keiko replied, chuckling. Her soft, slowing gray hair bounced merrily as she stocked some film cases on the shelves. "You are entering it, aren't you?"
"Oh I'm not sure," Skye replied humbly. She picked up some new developing solution, and some more clips to hang her photographs to dry. "Some of the pictures you have on the roll I gave you might be good enough, but I'm not sure."
"Well, I'm very exhausted!" Keiko said suddenly, and Skye knew what was coming next. "Why don't you and I go to lunch, and I'll close shop for a little while. We can take a look at those pictures of yours afterwards."
"Sounds wonderful!" Skye grinned, and the two walked outside to meet with Fury.
The gigantic Fearow had attracted a lot of attention, but Skye refused to put him in a pokeball. To be honest, she had never possessed a pokeball in her life, let alone used one. Fury had been an injured baby Spearow when she met him, and after Skye had nursed him back to health, he refused to leave! He had been by her side ever since.
"Why don't you visit the park, Fury?" Skye suggested. "I know how much you hate the city. You can meet me in front of Keiko's shop in a few hours okay?"
Fury nodded gratefully, and flew off briskly. Skye wastched him leave, smiling. She and Keiko continued on their way to their favorite cafe.
It wasn't a very busy place, tucked into a corner, but the food and drinks were excellent, and the service even better.
"Hello, Janet!" Skye exclaimed, rushing to hug her old high school friend. "How have you been?"
The black haired girl grinned, pleased to see Keiko and Skye.
"Oh, it's been okay," Janet replied, setting two cups of tea on the table for Keiko and Skye, and returning shortly with one for herself. "Mom and Dad took the day off. It's their anneversary you know, so I'm in charge!"
Janet rolled her eyes emphatically, and sipped her tea.
"As usual, it's been dull," Janet added.
"Well, it seems like you're doing alright," Skye said happily, stirring some sugar into her tea, and sipping carefully. She admired the paintings that cluttered the plank-wood walls. The bar stools, to her right, were vacant, and only one other person sat at the table a few meters away.
"Well, with Keiko visiting every day...she really keeps this place running!" Janet laughed, causing chuckles all around. "How's life at the beach?"
"Oh, it's been okay," Skye replied. "You should both come down sometime and visit me. I've got plenty of room in my cottage, with just Fury and I living there."
"I might have to take you up on that!" Keiko smiled. "I've been wanting to take a vacation for quite some time now."
"Well, would certainly love to have you!" Skye exclaimed happily.
Janet got up to bring them their usuals. She set a plate of lean steak and potatoes before Skye, and some shrimp scampi before Keiko. Skye took a bite and savored it. It had been so long since her last steak! She sighed happily, enjoying the comfort of her friends...
