i know the emulator is perfectly legal and i already downloaded it, but what about the roms, i know there illegal but exactly how illegal? like downloadin free music?

...there is no difference in illegality. Illegal means illegal, thus, you shouldn't do it if you fear the consequences.

Also, please use the Emulation forums for these kind of things in the future.
