So I've been here for ages now. I've made 9 posts. I've made no threads. Lol. Just a couple of notes before I start;
• Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
• Modest Nature
• 64 HP / 252 SpAtk / 192 Spe
~ Water Spout
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunder
So I needed a rain inducer and I'm lazy. As I shouldn't have to explain, with its Drizzle ability, Kyogre fills this role perfectly as it induces instant and constant rain for the rest of my team.
STAB Water Spout in the Rain with Choice Scarf is simply lethal to pretty much everything that doesn't resist it well. In an awkward situation, assuming Kyogre can come in without taking damage, I can normally sweep an entire team with this one move. Although I don't because that kinda sucks. Surf is for when using up Water Spout's PP is pointless and for a bit of field utility. Ice Beam counters the Grass types that can overall present a fair problem to this team while Thunder is simply indispensable in the Rain thanks to its perfect accuracy and decent PP. It also stops me from being horribly walled by Water. Oh, and BoltBeam coverage too.
The EVs allow me to outspeed a Max Spe Jolteon while I'm holding the Scarf. I then Max SpAtk with a Modest Nature to ensure I get the most that I possibly can out of my attacks. Finally, for better durability, the remainder gets dumped into HP.
• Raikou @ Leftovers
• Rash Nature
• 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
~ Thunder
~ Aura Sphere / Hidden Power [Ice]
~ Weather Ball
~ Calm Mind
Yes this is legit for those of you who don't know. It was recently released in a movie event. I think. Anyway, this makes a great player on any rain team imo. Yes it's legendary. Like Kyogre, deal with it.
Thunder grants me an excellent, failproof STAB to fire off as I wish. In the rain, Weather Ball's Base Power doubles to 100, which is then boosted even further up to an awesome 150 BP, falling short of Thunder by only 30 BP. Sounding good to me. Also counters Ground nicely. Aura Sphere is great in-game because it is essentially Hax-Proof. However, I'm contemplating switching it out for Hidden Power [Ice] to stop Grass/Poison from walling me, and to provide BoltBeam. The issue being that Thunder or Weather Ball will both do more than a Super Effective HP[Ice], and most of my team spams Ice moves anyway, so I'm leaning away from it here. Calm Mind is something else I'm unsure of. While having the higher power is nice, outside of Rain, Raikou is virtually useless so I'm having second thoughts here.
Sweeper Spread and Nature.
• Swampert @ Leftovers
• Careful Nature
• 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef
~ Curse
~ Waterfall
~ Earthquake
~ Ice Punch
So, I've liked the CursePert idea since Pokémon Ruby Version, and I thought I'd incorporate it here. Its nice typing and great bulk along with Rain support makes it a good candidate for this team. Its ability to ignore Electric attacks is also very useful if the opponent choses to spam Thunder. Or something.
Curse is the core of CursePert, as the name suggests. It allows me to have some great physical tanking on my team, which imo, really helps it out and is a required element. Waterfall provides utility, a solid STAB and a Rain-boosted attack. Earthquake is for secondary STAB and a great answer to Electrics. Ice Punch is partly filler, and partly anti-grass, and although I won't be outspeeding many Grass types to use it I still think it's worth a place on this moveset.
As my Atk and Def will be boosted anyway, it seems to be sensible to maximise general bulk by Maxing SpDef, which will be left alone, and HP. Simple as that.
• Toxicroak @ Black Sludge
• Jolly Nature
• 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
~ Poison Jab
~ Brick Break
~ Sucker Punch
~ Swords Dance
This thing truly shines in the rain. The huge recovery it gets from Rain + Black Sludge along with immunity and recovery from Water type moves more than compensates for its considerable lack of durability.
Poison Jab is a horribly typed move but it provides a solid STAB and fits in pretty well here. Brick Break is there for a Secondary STAB and just generally good typing. Sucker Punch is there to provide good coverage alongside Brick Break and it also lets me hit anything faster than me, which is surprisingly little. Toxicroak can afford to spend a couple of turns setting up with Swords Dance thanks to the aforementioned recovery, and helps this set sweep brilliantly in the long-term.
The EVs are standard Sweeper. I was considering Adamant at first but I decided that the speed boost from Jolly was completely necessary, especially with SD'd Atk boost behind it, and so opted for this instead and it's working very well.
• Ludicolo @ Damp Rock
• Modest Nature
• 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
~ Energy Ball
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Rain Dance
PLEASE REPLACE ME WITH SOMETHING THAT CAN DO MY JOB BUT BETTER BECAUSE IN ALL HONESTY I REALLY SUCK.
Pretty much. Thoughts? I've tried this team out and it's really been the weak link.
• Manaphy @ Damp Rock
• Modest Nature
• 252 HP / 252 SpAtk / 4 Spe
- Rain Dance
- Rest
- Energy Ball
- Surf
Rain abuse ftw. Hydration allows it to get full, immediate recovery from Rest without the need to wait for two turns while Rain is in play. Energy Ball stops Waters from walling, and I'd use it over Ice Beam because multiple members of my team already carry Ice moves. Imo, Tail Glow will not be needed when Surf is being boosted by STAB and Rain. It should do sufficient damage on its own and I can bring in the more powerful members should I need a more powerful Special Attacking force.
After a bit of testing, it seems that very little capable of killing Manaphy before it rests up can actually get through the rest of the team, meaning that Manaphy is only really vulnerable to extreme Hax, generally when a Super Effective move crits. It should suffice nicely.
So yeah, I got lazy and brought up an old team but meh. I'll be interested to see your suggestions for it. Rate away! (Oh, and I'd add sprites to make it look pretty and stuff but I apparently need more than 15 posts)
• If any of you regular SPPf, you will notice that this team is identical to one made by the member TheBlueRabbit on there. So that people don't accuse me of stealing or anything, I am TheBlueRabbit.
• I'm using EVs and Natures, but this is an in-game team.
• I don't really mind that I'm using Legends, so no need to point that out. If you can think of something more fun then I'll replace them though.
