I walked off, excusing myself from the conversation. By the door I had run past earlier I sat down, taking the candy bar (because, of course, that's what it was) and unwrapped it. Feeling a bit hungry I took a bite out of it. Boy, did it taste good. But something felt... different. I finished the candy bar, and knew what it was. I was still has hungry as I was before, maybe hungrier. And chocolate doesn't do that to me... usually.
I had always thought of gum as a tease-food. It makes you THINK you're eating food, but all you're doing is chewing something that comes from a tree.
That's kinda what this was like. Chewing gum. Except you can swallow it. So... it kinda wasn't like gum.
It was kinda like in the Wizard of Earthsea book. Ged, and all wizards actually, had the power to create illusions. But that's all they were, illusions. They could create food, the most wonderful tasting food. And you could eat 12 times your weight in that wonderful food, but you'd still be hungry.
I sat there, staring at the ground thoughtfully.
