Was anyone else disappointed by the World Cup arc?

    Now it was called the World Cup Jr. Cup and what bugged me about it was the fact only Unova people were in (well Dawn was too but you know what I mean) How the heck is that a world cup? Sure maybe some random people were in it from other regions but I would of loved to see people from other series be in it. I'm not saying Misty,Brock,May etc but characters like Angie,AJ and Giselle for example. Really the arc could of been great but was really lackluster. Really I did enjoy the training episodes and Cynthia in it the most.
     
    I liked the Pokémon World Tournament. It was my favorite of all the tournaments from BW. There was already a whole palette of recurring characters who made it unnecessary to throw in characters from previous series. There were some really good battles and the matchups were almost perfect. Trip's battle with Alder was really interesting. It always nice to see one of Ash's overconfident rivals being defeated :P

    It just felt like an over glorified Battle Club arc to me. I just felt it was cheap to call it a world cup and really only have the BW people in it and nobody but Dawn from an outside region.

    Like my fav part of the WC was the interaction scene Alder had with Cynthia and would of liked to see people from other regions hanging out with others. I would of spazzed out if we got Bianca and Barry hanging out.
     
    Junior Cup was a trash of a Tournament that was only meant for Trip's fangirl and that Writer/Director who loved him like crazy .
    They attach ''World Tournament'' there to show everyone what a big Tournament Trip's winning .
    If We Ash-fan altogether demand that Ash to win even bigger Tournament then ''Junior Cup'' unscratched Then those writer use excuse like Over-glorifying Ash Or That type Tournament being unfair .
    But since it was for their beloved Trip , EVERYTHING WAS FAIR !!!

    FYI : Please Don't make me feel sorry for Trip just because he lose the first round of this league .
    Because Writer made Trip lose the 1st round of league so that Trip's defect in the league look likes a Gamble !!!
    Think about it , The first round of Kento league & sinnoh league was 3 on 3 battle.
    In Unova League , The first round is an 1 on 1 battle specially since its the main rival Ash facing .
    Truth is , Trip was saved in Unova league .
    Because writer knew that the defect in Unova League mean nothing after Trip beaten Ash 3 time in a row and Won Junior Cup in front of Alder , Cynthia & Caitlin .

    PS : I'm not being ofensive toward anyone ! My anger is toward the director/Writer who was in charge of Junior Cup.
    If I was in their place then Junior cup would have being a ''Triple Battle Tournament'' .

    Really bad writing took over a lot of Unova which was sad. but the WC being a triple battle setting would of been cool. Compared to how much we have had double battles I was shocked only one triple battle was shown.
     
    It was actually dissapointed by what unova arc with one thing that travelling for 13 seasons through 4 regions, Ash and pikachu lost to trip's 5 level snivy. Shouldn't pikachu would have won that even without electric attacks?
     
    You're certainly right about it having a rather disappointing turnout for its title. I enjoyed the BW rival-cast in general, but a World Tournament should have been a lot more than what it was. I don't think it fit very well in BW, which has its own massive simultaneous-journey-cast- they could have just thrown in another Don tournament with Alder and Cynthia just sponsoring it or something idk. At least, as you mentioned, it should have featured different battle types. We has so many double battles back when they were a new gameplay aspect; where are the triple battles?

    We're talking about the World Tournament Jr Cup in this thread, not Unova as a whole. There's a thread for that coming soon enough ;x
     
    Mm, but the name implies that it would involve competitors from other regions. If it's Unova-based and Unova-only invite and not advertised outside of the region and doesn't attract competitors from other regions, how can you call that a World Cup? You may as well call it Unova Regional Jr Cup. Which would make more sense for what it is. But I mean they could have just done another Don tournament and had that be the thing. This is not from an in-universe standpoint. This is a "what the heck, show writers?"
     
    Just like I said , This Tournament was only and only meant for Trip !
    It didn't had any other goal like pleasing the Audience and raise marketability .
    Director/Writer's obsession with making Trip the main rival killed BW Series ! Because Trip has better potential with becoming a ''Straight-man'' /''Punchline'' character .
    And Believe me ,People would loved Trip as a ''Straight-man'' character who often snap at Ash & Alder not taking thing seriously but get stunned when thing worked out for them.
    Like Asuza from K-on !!!
    And also , If Ash's Froakie doesn't evolve then I hold this Tournament as the Culprit Because if Serperior Could be untouchble with base speed of 113 then director/writer would have make Greninja unseeable due to its base speed being 122 So Writer decided to keep froakie underevolve !
    After all , Greninja is more popular among fully evolve kalo starter like so there no need to keep it underevolve unless Writer/Director wants to avoid something.
    Talonflame may be even faster but it not easy to touch a fast opponent who can fly in the Air However Land pokemon like Serperior & Greninja are whole different thing .

    well the directors are forced to write it like that as a start to a season. if pikachu retains its strength from older seasons it'll murder any pokemon ash met in early unova (including trip), kinda like charizard in johto before the violet gym.

    But Pikachu seemed find in XY. Granted he lost to Wobbuffet but he did take his own powerful attack with twice the damage .
     
    Im not even sure if i would consider Junior Cup as World tournament. It hardly gave out impression of global event hosted for participants from all over the world to compete in, like games did gathering gym leaders, E4 members, all kind of high class very skilled trainers opened for everyone. In fact whole conceot of Junior Cup was in least hand underwhelming and insulting n my opinion to something which should had arguably hold high level of honor and recognition turning into biggest, most massive event so far created in pokemon world.

    Passing on relatively low note covering it through small provincial like event which had grand total of just 16 participants. To make things even worse only competitors outside the Unova native trainers were Ash and Dawn(not counting hosts like Cynthia or Caitlin) undermining its credibility and importance ending as nothing more than slightly glorified version of Don George Battle Club tournaments reserved mainly for trainers from BW.

    One on one battles only further reinforces such kind of impression with most battles being composed of fast forward one KO hits be it Ash battling Marris and Karrablast, Trip defeating Burgundy with one blow, Cilan plowing through Galvantula and Chinchillo like they were joke etc. etc.

    So called "World Cup" was perhaps one of biggest let downs and disappointments i had from Unova series. With writers doing terrible adaptation of something so prestigue and diverse games delivered, revealing how unprepared and poorly planned whole concept in anime version was. Resulting in rushed, badly written and anticlimactic arc done mainly to glorify Iris Dragonite which ignored type disadvantage like its completely irrelevant and boost up Trip with attempt of portraying him as threat for league later on.

    Failing to deliver that in homogenous and believable manner, given how for most part of BW he was portrayed as rather average trainer who was starting out, just to later reappear with evolved Serpentine dominating opponents left and right in Junior Cup, trying to turn him in threat for league over night and make amends with idol Alder misnderstanding his message of where true stte gth of pokemon trainer lies. . Ending as joke later at that same league being threw out already in first round.

    Shame because there were several ways imo to make World tournament more enjoyable, eventful and believable living up to what games established.
    There could have been several cups spread across Dekolora islands for example like Senior Cup or Champion cup acting as follow up from Junior tournament opening access toward return of previous gym leaders like lt. Surge, Sabrina, Norman(referencing May and Max that way), Volkner (heck Clair could had be one of participants introducing her in more appropriate way to play part in Iris plot) and possibly give us surprising returns in form of some other notable gym leaders and good long time friends of Ash like Misty. For who going on travel to compete in events on global basis would be justified helping her to advance water master career for which battling in tournaments and meeting other strong trainers from which you could learn is desirable as Whirl Cup showed. Along with helping to promote BW2 games better thanks to iconic status enriching on atmosphere with her rebellious, quirky and joking nature.

    Whole Junior Cup as far as im concerned was prime example of rushed and contrived writing and only good thing was lively, dynamic interactions between cast and rivals. Everything else was subpar and disappointing to me.
