2. Actually that's no contradiction, you can say it either way. It's just like saying "I'm watching the video footage from the tape"
 
Yes, but if you don't know it already, you can confuse "from the room" with that you are actually in the room. Nobody could mix "From the tape", though. Maybe it wasn't a contridiction, but it was confusing.
