Well, ok. Thanks for the tips, all! What I ended up doing was dumping Torchic in the Day Care Centre until it was a lv 24, then Embering that poor Magneton to death. Then I ran away and beat Flannery with a Wingull on less than half it's HP in one shot.
And no way am I getting rid of Linoone! If Headbutt has saved me once...
