We need better villains!

No it isn't. It's still kids who watch it more because it's a kids show.

Sort of like SatAM, without the epicly awesome storyline. Yes, it can be more serious and be kid friendly at the same time. It has happened before.

Hunter J may seem like that, but wait awhile. You'll see. She'll either be arrested or change in some way and turn out to be not such a bad person. Probably the same thing with Paul.

I think they need a villain that is a real threat to the world, and not just for one episode. For an entire season. A villain that can't be changed or reasoned with as easily, maybe because they feel they're doing the right thing, or maybe they're just insane and want to control everything in the world.

But yes, I do agree that Hunter J and Paul are the two best bad guys in Pokemon right now.

hunter j is pretty cool. I believe she is the first ever pokemon poacher thats made a name for herself. I really don't think of paul as a bad guy either. he just seems like a trainer that does what has to be done to win a match no matter what costs. he really dosen't do anything evil

But only in minororty now its more people who are in the 12-18 belt

Source? I can't believe that. The Pokemon franchise is clearly aimed at children, not prebuscent and adoloscent. While they may still enjoy it, almost everything about Pokemon is aimed at young children.

Hunter J has easily become the favorite villain. I think she is the best for now because she doenst care much about the pokemon like everyone else.

I was hoping that Meowth would turn angst(like Sasuke from Naruto) and would go to Darkrai for power. Then him and Pikachu (alone) could have an all-out epic brawl.

Well personally i think TR needs to stay the same, about 90% of the time the show would be too serious without them but there are a lot of episodes where they are there just for the sake of been there which needs to stop, however as said before Hunter J seems to be a pretty "Hardcore" enemy and i don't think we have seen enough of Team Galactic yet so they could be a nice surprise, but i have high doubts that we'll see much of them and before we know it they'll be gone

So basically, we need TR to stay to keep the show from getting too serious but not have them there just for the sake of having them there , and have a more "Hardcore" enemy that show up more often than Galactic has this season, and also maybe more than one serious rival at a time.

Well when you think about it, the TRio are the only really terrible villains. TG, at least from the games, wants to summon two cosmic horror Gods to destroy the universe. Hunter J is...well what Paul will be when he grows up. XD TA and TM were psycho environmentalists *cough*PETA*cough* that wanted to destroy all humans and expand the Sea and land respectively. Finally Team Rocket (not the TRio, but as a whole) is the mafia, we've seen what they are actually capable of. I mean just because we have three idiots, doesn't take away from the fact that most of the other villains are actually evil.

I agree. who says TR isnt really evil. In fact I'm pretty sure Giovanni doesnt evn know Jessie James and Meowth exist.

Well he does now...I mean they did send him Yanma...that he immediately sent back. XD

Oh yeah I remember that. To bad he didn't keep it. He didn't know that it knew Ancient Power...
He did, in both versions he said he knew it did. He probably would have rather they skipped the middle man and already had the Yanmega. If they sent it back now he probably would have taken it.

What's wrong with team rocket, they are funny characters and the function great as a comic relief. I just want some more episode with butch and cassidy.

That's the problem though, the point of this thread is to discuss the fact that the main villains are nothing more than comic relief. Even Butch and Cassidy have been lamified.

Yeah as said that IS the problem, i mean yes TRio is needed in the series without them there is no comic relief in the series and every series needs something like that and they are good at it, however in the games we have had Rocket, Magma & Aqua and Galactic, as REAL villain's and many of us would like to see these REAL villans get alot more screen time, or at least a fair mix of the two.

I feel that the most imposing, brooding, and lissome of villainy is that which one does not see - what is feared most - flaunting on the indulgence of the understanding of others. When the depth of intent is indiscernible and when the villain's incentive can never be figured out so as to not dampen the impact of the villain, I feel a certain intangible, complicated, but fearful complex bears to fruition. Pokémon has nothing of the like, of course. I feel that it's not dark or deep enough to quite reach the threshold of that level, but while the villains may be apocryphal, at least they're not simplistic. Jessie, James, and Meowth are both human and criminals. They're in shades of gray rather than simply black and lambently white. It sullies and belies the trio, which doesn't by necessity add to their complexity but their depth; what one can relate to. But black and white is usually what "good and evil" conflicts ring of for me - there's villainy abounded in Pokémon as it is with the kind of challenges the characters face - themselves, their Pokémon, their rivals (who are, by nature, hostile), and what not. Villainy does not have to be in the form of antagonists who take expected form. I prefer hidden and deeper threats myself, and I sort of like that Pokémon breaks away from the refrain that is "good versus evil" on select occasions. And most of the time that just leads to inane clashes that get nowhere anyway. Still, I feel villains are people who need to challenge the heroes on a mental level more than a physical level, something a tad lacking in today's media in general. In the eyes of an enemy a hero must become more than something that just surmounts to an entity. Great heroes merit great opponents.

The series does bring to fruition the occasional thugs, Team Rocket, Team Magma, Team Aqua, and some other villains, but because of the somewhat lighthearted and less in earnest nature of the anime (and how it tends to stay an RPG format more now, like the games, being battle centric), going any deeper than that may be too serious for the writers. As far as movies go, some of them suffer from a lack of thoroughly developed villainy (Mewtwo) and some of them suffer from a lack of finality and a good swell in tone (Rayquaza), whilst others are quite morose and inscrutable by nature (Unown). The only thing I think could get old fast in Pokémon is having an anti hero who occasionally takes upon the role of a villain. A vigilante, even. I just see them as excuses to garner attention, whine, and lose themselves in their own searches. But as of now I'm okay with the villains... I sort of wish that the comedic relief role wasn't so pensively kept to but with an anime like Pokémon it's to be expected.

Even though the Team Rocket is not so smart team, but still they make the twist of the story.. So its better that there would no be other villains to be created.. Because Team Rocket rules..(That's Right XD)

Read the first post.

It's not fair to see them get blown up in every episode.
