    First post W0000T!!!! Anyways, I was debating about buying an old 1st Edition Team Rocket booster box (which come with 36 packs right?) and i'm wondering what are the odds of me getting the entire set from that one box. Because if I pay $150 for the box and don't even get all of them then I'd might as well buy the complete set on eBay for $100.

    The odds of getting a full set with one box are not very good. Though there are only 83 cards in the set, there are 17 holofoils, and taking into account doubles (which you are guaranteed to get), I don't think you would even make a complete holo set, seeing as the distribution of holofoils is a lot less than 17 per box. You will get a lot of them, but will be lacking in some holos and other rare cards. You can probably just buy a 1st edition complete set on the internet for less than what you've quoted for the entire box, and then you're guaranteed a full set.
     
    Just buy them all individualy, that way you atleast know what your paying for. Plus you wont get stuck with doubles this way. :)
     
    Thanks everyone for the quick responses! And yeah thats what I've been doing for the sets I already have. I bought complete 1st Edition Fossil and Jungle sets on eBay both for $90 each and I'm starting on the 1st Edition Base set, but buying those cards individually because the full set is hard to come by and I don't have that much money to buy the whole thing at one time so I buy a card whenever I get the chance. My ultimate goal is to collect every 1st generation WOTC card (mint/near mint condition) and I'm just exploring the different ways to get the sets. Its literally been 8 years since I've opened a pack and I feel like a nerd for getting back into this pokemon stuff haha. Thanks everyone again!

    Oh and one more question before I forget. I'm collecting these cards sort of as an investment as well as for my personal entertainment. Do you think if I bought factory sealed 1st Edition boxes/packs, would they be worth more in the future? Also, what's your personal opinion about the future for these cards? Will they fade away or stay strong for the next several years?
