Can someone please explain to me what it really means to be "punk"?
Well, legitimatly, Punk is described as anarchy, and rebellion. So, Good Charlotte, singing about how they miss their ex...or about what a `bad girl` their current girlfriend is...isn`t exactly punk. Nor is singing about how the rich people complain too much (funny, they`re rich people complaining about how rich people complain...conformists!!!) or singing about how girls only like cars, and money. Which, by the way, I`ve found to be true only 20% of the time, and that`s only with the preppy types.
Punk would be like AFI (I don`t like them...at all.) who talks about how the government is messed up.
Uhm, or The Offspring, who talk about political sort of stuff in their music.
The Missfits (one of my favorite bands) have a punk`ish sound to their stuff, but, most of their lyrics are about nothing. `I want your skull! I need your skull!`
Blink 182 isn`t punk, either. However, I do like them, but, they use power chords for EVERYTHING!!! Seriously, you could teach a 2 year old how to do power chords in like, five or six minutes.
Punk isn`t completely about the image, it`s about the message they want to get across. Basically...SCREW THE GOVERNMENT! WE ARE DIFFERENT!!! ...They want to stand out, because...well, then they feel special.
