I named mine my name, Esther. I named my rival Lorenz :) I'm using that name for my son when I get my baby! Which is like 15 years away, lol.
I don't name my Pokemon. Why? Too much effort too. Maybe I will later ;)
 
I Named my Cyndaquill Fireblast. I Think I named that dude Jake. I forgot xD
 
Since I have HG, I called myself Gold, and my rival Silver. When I played D/P and R/S/E, I called myself Veridis :P
Probably because I didn't like the names Ruby, Saphire...

EDIT: Forgot to say, I don't nickname my pokemon.
 
I don't name my pokemon AND I don't have HG or SS :((. Though can anyone give me a link to a good copy of a rom with no issues whatsoever?

But in all games this is how it is:

My name: Lukeroa [Luk-a-r-o-a]

The origins of my name come from, as you can see my profile name here is "LukerØath". It's a mix between my name, Luke, and my favorite band's name, UnderØath. On the game there are not enough spaces to do the whole thing so I just change up the pronunciation of the last two letters, and thus Lukeroa is born.

Since I base my name off of music I love, I always base my Rivals off of music I hate. He is always "Juggalo". Because a Juggalo is a member of the cult following for Insane Clown Posse. I HATE Insane Clown Posse. This is NOT a diss toward Juggalo's as I am friends with a few, no matter how terrible their taste in music is. It was just better than naming my rival ICP, Or Nickelba (Nickelback.). But now that I think of it, I could name him Kidrock.

My rivals name is Randall.
My Pokemons names are: Grimwald (Geodude), Flounder (Quagsire), Dune (Nidorino). I'm doing a mono ground challenge, so yeah (:

I name myself Tom, my Rival Douche or Diamond/Green/Saphire (when I play Pearl/FireRed/Ruby)
I never nickname my pokemon
 
My trainer in HG is Liam.

His rival is named Alex, for lack of a better idea (and after my brat of a brother, ha?)

For the most part, I've attempted to name mainly used pokemon after various esper/eidolon/summons from the Final Fantasy series, though sadly it's mostly kept to Ifrit (Typhlosion) and Ramuh (Ampharos).

Not much of a varied team, I know. Planning on starting a new team; no clue what I'm going to do regarding names, however.
 
I am Is (first two letters of silver reversed- it is kind of my thing; I was Me in Emerald and Id in Diamond)
Rival is silver (what else?)
My typhlosion is Cyan (weird, I know, letters come from Cyndaquil, I like the sound, and its back is sort of cyan-colored, I think)

I tend to be sporadic with pokemon naming (the only guaranteed name is for starter) and can't think of any others right now.

Oh yeah, I also have a lapras named lapree. (Random and it is fun to say.)

and my rival is Bra (short for Braska which is my brothers name)
and I never nickname my pokemon

I usually name my Pokemon rivals after buttmunches I go to school with. Until my 2nd playthrough on HeartGold, in which I ran out of people && just named my rival "Buttmunch".
 
My name is Gia, my nickname. My rival is Silver. My Croconaw is Toto, my Nidorina is Nina, my Soodowoodo is Wilma, my Standler is Beauty, my Togepi is Misty, and my Wobbuffet doesn't have a name cause I traded it from HG.
