    Do you seek strength?
    Do you seek beauty?
Do you seek an incredible moveset?
    Do you seek stats?
What do you seek in a pokemon before adding it to your main team.
I mix and match my favourites.

I'm pretty balanced in my picks.

The type. If I need it's type in my team.
And also I have to like it.
I don't care about EVs/IVs [**Automatically gets labeled as Noob**]

My main team is mostly composed of my favorites. I like the challenge of not always having a type advantage, and I think it's more fun to use Pokémon I like rather than using them just because they will be the most likely to win the battle.

When it comes to Pokemon I use through the game (e.g. in the gym circuit and against the E4), it's a combination of favorites and anything that won't faint because of a stiff breeze. I try to go with Pokemon I know I've never trained before (although things like Gardevoir on an RSE team generally is a must for me), but I test out said Pokemon in a few battles and study its movepool and stats. If I don't think it'll stand up on its own in a gym match, I box it and find something else. For example, I've tried raising a Kingler back in RBY, but after realizing that Vicegrip, its strongest attack at the time, wouldn't take down a thing without giving the opponent an opportunity to cut Kingler's HP in half, I put it in the PC and looked for a better Pokemon.
