I loved Gary. The Pokemon anime has WAY too many nice people or people that turn from mean to nice in one episode. Gary was always like a refreshing bottle of jerk throughout the first season. Unfortunately, Gary had to go and grow up (what on Earth happened to him during the short term of the Orange Islands?? Did his brain get sucked out by aliens hanging out in the outskirts of Pallet??), and now the biggest jerks on the show are the bad guys we never get to see *coughGiovannicough* and Drew. Drew... He's not the biggest jerk there is, and his intentions are never underhanded. There's also Harley too, he's a jerk and he's quite entertaining.
They're nice and all, but they're May's rivals. But for Ash... there's no one! No one's an official "rival" and no one's a jerk to him for more than an episode save for Team Rocket. -_-
I wish they'd bring on a person to be Ash's rival that wasn't all good. That was someone we'd actually see some ongoing conflict with. I hate having these one-two episode rivals that dissapear never to be seen again after the leagues are over. Blech...!
To go one step further, considering they animated all the rivals, except Silver and he was converted at least for the opening of the Raikou Special, ee could crossover and be Ash's at least briefly. Do we have to do one set rival for each starter? Silver is too much of a jerk to be contained to just one rival anyway.
Might as well play on the possibilities and use the guy. And yeah, can't wait for Harley either.
Well,to be honest,Gary is well,in between the lines. Not good nor bad.I'd much prefer Silver in either side.He was much better off arrogant, but meh, things change.for me now,he's nothing compared to Silver.
I thought Shigeru was cool in season one. He was an arrogant and mean *******, which made his character highly amusing. I loved it whenever he put Satoshi down. Their interactions were always a great deal of fun to watch. 'Tis a shame that he became such a goodie-goodie later on. He truly was one of the best rivals to ever appear on the show.
