From the thing underneath my user name, you can guess my favorite Pokemon is Alakazam. One of the things that I like about it is that it has the (joint) highest base SpAtk stat of any non-legendary (135). As soon as I got one I pretty much used it exclusivley, making the Ghost Gym a bit dodgy, but more importantly making it one of my highest level Pokemon, and eventually my first Lvl.100.
I found out how to EV train for SpAtk (essentially, i had to battle 85 other Alakazams, Gardevoir or Gengar), and did; so i got a maxed-out SpAtk stat. Theoretically. My Alakazam's SpAtk is now 346. Are alarm bells ringing? They weren't for me until I EV Trained a high level Tyranitar (Lvl. 95+) for Atk and it had an attack stat of nearly 400. Tyranitar's base Atk stat is 134. That is less that 135; so why isn't my Tyranitar's Atk stat lower than my Alakazam's SpAtk stat?
I also now have a high level Glaceon with a base SpAtk stat of 130. It has the same nature as Alakazam (Modest - lowers Atk, raises SpAtk) so shouldn't it have a lower SpAtk stat than Alakazam? Apparently not. It has a SpAtk stat of nearly 400. More than 346.
What is going on? Alakazam and Glaceon have the same, beneficial nature, have been EV trained in the same way and Glaceon has a lower base SpAtk stat. So why does a Lvl. 98 Glaceon have a higher SpAtk stat than Lvl. 100 Alakazam? Alakazam's Max SpAtk is 405 NOT 346...
My gut feeling is that it has something to do with DV's/IV's in which case I am gonna need to catch another Abra, EV train it, and hope it has a better SpAtk stat than before. Either that or I haven't EV trained Alakazam properly, yet have EV trained Glaceon properly - although I find it unlikely since i did pretty much the same for both of them.
Anyone got any ideas?
