Every generation of new Pokemon often gets comments such as "They've ran out of ideas." "I wish they were still based on animals" and so on.

So what, in your opinion are Pokémon? Are they the re-worked versions of basic animals like Pidgey and Ratatata? Or more fantastical creatures like Snorlax and Lickitung?

Personally I'm a mix of both. Basic Pokémon like Ratatata drive me crazy, too freaking basic. While creatures who arn't quite so basic like Snorlax and Slowbro I like a bit more. Then there some more basic like Tauros who I like. Artificial ones like Magemite don't bother me too much, but its evo does, the sinnoh one is cool though.

Looking back at Gen I, I feel like the idea was simpler. Most were just altered and/or creative looks on regular animals. I think a lot of people would say the designs and ideas have gone downhill, but I feel as though their inspirations are just changing. I think every generation needs that mix of simple and complex Pokemon, because that's an accurate representation of the real world, and maybe that's what they aim for. However, Pokemon is generally a kid's game and show, which seems to allow their creators many opportunities to branch out and make Pokemon magical. Personally, I like the ideas they have for some. Creating a Pokemon out of sand-castles or ice cream seems to breathe life into the simplest of things that we normally don't think twice about in reality. Altogether, I think the idea of Pokemon has evolved into something more imaginative than animals... Does that make sense? (ouo)

I am sick and tired of people saying "Omg Pokémon's running out of ideas hurr hurr". They usually say it for stupid reasons:
    • They're based off items. Just because they are, it doesn't mean they're running out of ideas. I mean, at least almost all object-based Pokémon were based off objects are the first to be based off them. For example, Honedge and its evolutions are the first Pokémon based off swords.
    • They look like other Pokémon from other Generations. This claim is just stupid. Just because there are lots of cat Pokémon, they're running out of ideas? Come on.

Basically, they think, "Oh, there's a Pokémon based off a sand castle and they've never done it before? They're running out of ideas. And there's another owl Pokémon? They're running out of ideas." Basically, they contradict their own logic.

    Anyway...

Pokémon to me are more fantastic versions of their real-life counterparts (except the ones from Generation I. They basically found random animals and either gave them two heads or colored them purple). The newer Generations exemplify this, like Alomomola, Barbaracle, and Morelull.
