And then the unsightly pawn turns into a knight, queen, rook, or bishop. And gets noticed.

Actually my ruthless brother, who has only beaten me once in all the board games we play (it was Chess) :P, loves murdering pawns, while my sneaky little rook and knight corners him and attacks him. :P Chess is a game of sacrifice (Ron Weasley's famous chess quote), and I sacrifice all my pawns.
