Survey: What kind of ROM Hacking do you specialize in?

That's a bit harsh. Those who work with graphics should be considered hackers too. the definition of Rom Hacking is "ROM hacking is the process of modifying a video game ROM image to alter the game's graphics, dialogue, levels, gameplay, or other elements." (qtd. wikipedia)

You need to learn the meaning of some words. "ROM hacking is the process of modifying [...] to alter [...]"
Right? Right. That has nothing to do with spriting, mapping or tile making. What was actually meant is that ROM hackers modify the ROM data (bytes man, bytes) in order to change these things. They do not. Use. Graphic tools. The process of inserting graphics to the ROM can be considered hacking, the process of making them isn't.

therefore those who map and sprite are also hackers. doesn't matter how good u are in ASM at the end of the day grahics mapping AND scripts is what makes up a hack.

At the end of the day these are what make an audience-appreciated hack. Those who map and sprite aren't hackers, pal. They help enhance the experience of playing a hack that is otherwise too similar to the game being hacked itself.

Anyway, I suppose I'm just a curious lad who knows how to script. I've been messing with the ROM for a while now but to no avail. I would like to move on to what Knizz left us in the near future. (not ASM)

I specialize mostly to musichacking because most people aren't interested in this kind and I think a hack is not a complete hack if there is no modified music and I usually like most VGMs of the games.
I can actually hack anything you need for modifing the music from instruments to songs.

my strength in rom hacking?

i would have to say its the music. im ok with basic scripting (like making a mock radio script for custom music examples and such), but my real strength lies in music hacking, namely creating, converting, looping, and inserting music (not to mention i have a few tutorials and r&d myself thats... *cough*outdated*cough*). i know the old traditional style of doing it with notepad as well as a tool a friend created (which i will discuss the release later with him) if you look in the r&d section ArchsageX has a post of fireemblem community's music discoveries with a link to a verry useful sappy program for those interested. http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=256363 since im currently in a work release program i rarely get a chance to get on a pc anymore so i have taken to remixing music to spark creative ideas for some future music hacks. these can be found on my youtube channel.

I usually specialize in anything I can get my hands on. I work with hex, I try to script and do ASM, I do all the minor and tedious things of a hack, I map, I can tile insert ok, I sprite (but not well) and many other things but I bet a lot more people can do more than I.

I normally do mapping, but I do some scripting and I just learn how to insert tiles. I want to start making tiles, but I don't have the talent or vision.

I can Map, create trainers, and do basic scripts. That's pretty much it.

I'm pretty much the same as the above post. I'm basically throwing in random nonsense, editing most of the trainers, and the members of the Banshee Trio (from Puyo Puyo Tsu) are the starter Pokémon in my little hack. I've also edited a very few amount of scripts, and even went out of the way to remove all of Wingull and Wailmer's locations, so you'll have to breed Pelipper and Wailord.

I specialize in Trainer editing for B/W or the advance Games It's a lot of fun modifying the trainer's roster and the levels, movesets, even the abilities. in my Emerald Version I'm hacking i put Steven Stone levels par to Red in HG/SS so that way it's harder

Mapping is my strongest point. It was the first time I played with, and even as a newb hacker I did a pretty damn good job. (for a newb)

Mine isn't Pokemon related, but I can be very experienced in hex editing. Most of the time, I know what I am looking for.

I'm exclusively an N64 hacker, specializing in disassembly and analysis. There aren't that many Pokémon N64 titles, but tearing them apart is what I do.
Weak against sound code, super-effective against ASM. Everything else is someplace in the middle. Decent with images and models but no artist by far.

I specialize in mapping, able to change professor intro text, Pokemon Encounter rates, Pokemon found in certain routes, and Scripting. Scripting is pretty meh though.

I still think I'm too far off perfection to be deemed a specialist - I suppose my strong points are scripting/mapping though. I'm competent in most non-graphics things ><.
