Wait, seriously? The caves, mountains and woods are exactly why I liked Jōto so much. I always got the impression it was less built up than other regions — what with Saffron, Celadon and Vermillion all being on the same coastal elevation they seemed to merge into one super city.
 
I've played through all regions, and I'd have to say Johto. Might just be because my favorite Pokemon were first obtained their, Feraligatr and Umbreon.

I hated Johto, there were few interesting locations in that region.

Hoenn is my favorite. It had many nice aspects, like a volcano, a desert, Shoal Cave, a lot of water, the underwater cavern, etc. Easily my favorite.
 
Most people will go for kanto because they "miss the old days"
 
Kanto because I'm biased due to evil nostalgia.

Johto is a close second because it's diverse and full of japanese culture. I don't care if Johto is overrated or whatever, it's pretty cool.
 
*Jumps on the Johto bandwagon*

Johto is, by far, my favourite region, just like the second generation was my favourite generation of Pokemon. It's hard to describe exactly what I find so awesome about this region, but there's just something about this region that appeals to me above the other regions.
Maybe it's that I've always liked Japanese culture, and out of all the regions, Johto has the most "Japanese" atmosphere to it.
Maybe it's the fact that Johto seems more "rural" than the other regions (Goldenrod City is pretty much the only major, modern city in Johto - maybe Ecruteak as well, if you really stretch it. The others could almost be considered rural towns). The other regions seem more upbeat, busy and populated than Johto. Kanto has a few large cities - Celadon City and Saffron City come to mind immediately, but Vermilion City and Fuchsia City are pretty good-sized too. Hoenn has Rustboro, Slateport, and Lilycove. Sinnoh has the absolutely enormous Jubilife City, and Hearthome is no slouch either.
I also like many of the new Pokemon introduced in the second generation, the starters especially. I can't wait to explore this region again when HeartGold and SoulSilver come out.

I personally like the Hoenn. It was where I first saw my favorite Pokemon... Gardevior. <3
 
I like Kanto most. I grew up with that, I just can't help it, even though it perhaps isn't very interesting for some. Second would be Sinnoh. I can't really say why...perhaps I like ordinary places ;P
I don't remember Johto very well since the batteries of my games died long go...(one reason I'm looking forward to the remakes so much). And I hated Hoenn (sorry...) because of the graphics, the Pokemon (some of the worst creations happened to
debut in Hoenn. Didn't like the female character either._.
 
Kanto hands down then it really a tie between all three, ok I'm lying Johto is second.

Johto was definitely the most boring to me. I LOVED Hoenn. 1. Hoenn 2. Sinnoh 3. Kanto 4. Johto
 
Johto definitely. So much more to do compared to the others. Tin Tower, Whirl Island, Dragon's Den, Radio Tower, Goldenrod Underground...
