The Unova games were the first to feature a region based outside of Japan. Through the games there's a lot of subliminal things slipped into the games that refer to the US. Braviary, Castalia, the list goes on.

What stood out to you as the coolest reference to the US? Something small or maybe something that people seem to skip over? Share your thoughts :)

... can you name 'em all?

i have to come back and make a disclaimer that i love the trubbish line and donald trump could only hope to be as awesome as that pokemon.

To me, it's those trainer classes that play sports, and also the Big Stadium and Small Court in general. Skyarrow Bridge has a design that reminds me of a lot of well-known suspension bridges in the area.

Unova as a whole was oozing a lot of MURICA but its all good. A lot of the characters looked like several kinds of Americans and minorities, with really Western-ish personalities and characterizations. Also, the bridge areas reminded me a lot about San Francisco.

Of course, we can't forget Castella City being a whole reference to New York City.

When thinking about this I realised that America seems to be all about free speech etc. That's sort of what Ghetsis is doing in the game - using free speech and trying to liberate Pokémon to freedom. Just a thought given what I know of America.

Liberty Island was cool. I wish the irl version was bigger because I wanted to explore that part of the game way more lol :(
