    i stopped following the seires a long time ago but i knew may replaced misty cause she hadda go back to the gym, but now i hear dawn is the leading female.
     
    May went to Johto.
    Ash meets Dawn because she saved Pikachu from Team Rocket after being separated.
     
    Because now, the females promote the current games and Pokemon contests.

    May: R/S/E
    Dawn: D/P

    and it will go on like that with the 5th Generation girl.
     
    Check out Youtube and check for Pokemon Battle Frontier Episode 466. It tells you that May decided to travel to Johto to compete in their contests by herself, Max went back home to Petalburg City to train to become a Gym leader like Norman. Like Gymnotide said Ash met Dawn when she was defending Pikachu from Team Rocket. So May is gone ;;, hopefully she'll show up in a D/P episode lol who knows? They did the same for Misty in Advanced Challenge Season 7, so you can only hope they do the same for May.
     
    They banished May to Johto,so I doubt she will be showing up.
     
    Misty was sent back to Kanto, but she still came back in Hoenn. If the writers have some reason for May to come back, they will have her come back. Misty showed up in Hoenn to finalize her relationship with Togepi. Who knows. Perhaps May will show up in Sinnoh for the new Eeveevolutions.

    Of course, who ever thought that Marina would be making a comeback.

    The summary of this post is: If the writers have a reason to bring a character back, they will. It doesn't matter really why they left or where they went to.

    Yes, she was in a few anime episodes though.
    They released it here as 'Pokemon Chronicles'.

    & as far as May goes:
    Like others have said, she went to Johto to continue going through with Pokemon Contests.
    This was at the end of Battle Frontier, in Kanto.
    Dawn joined once Ash reached Sinnoh. (She's participating in Contests as well.)

    I'm hoping that May will come back for an episode, sometime though.
     
    Considering we've had some Hoenn references, yet not one of her, it's pretty doubtful at this point. Sighs. Particularly when they referenced the Pokeblocks in the Poffin episode. Come on, it was on the tip of the tongue, you lousy writers. Shakes fist.

    Edit: Then again, we don't know about the episodes yet to be dubbed and the upcoming ones. Unless PUSA sneaks in one, like they did with for Butch/Cassidy in the second Paul episode. Hmm.
     
    May went to Johto, and I don't think she's coming back anytime soon.. I heard Misty was though.. O_O
